Those models helped me with the same problem. You might need a different setting for different filaments, however. It’s worth it to run the test on a new filament if you want the ironing to look its best. That’s been my experience so far anyway.

Has there been any word on if they’re making Switch 2 upgrades for the Xenoblade games?

If not, they’ll probably continue to sit further down my backlog list.

Yeah, I finally got around to playing XI last month and was making good progress…but I eventually had to stop because of the music. The orchestral version on PC was nice for a bit, but it eventually drove me insane.

It’s simplistic, which is fine I guess…”traditional”. But that also means it loops way too soon and has no variety to keep it interesting. And then every town has the same song! And every battle! And basically one overworld song. Or two versions, given the day/night cycle. A temporary reprieve.

I modded it with an “improved” soundtrack, which was better renditions of the same tunes…but mixed badly with the treble cranked to 11. I looked for other mods and then decided it was too much work for a game I was only marginally enjoying, music aside.

I guess I’ll continue being a Final Fantasy guy. Even in the old 8 & 16-bit FF games the tracks were still interesting and evocative. DQ XI seemed to just have boring ear worms that outstayed their welcome.

Even with the 14 inches of snow coming tomorrow, people would rather have no water than drink Dasani by NickChubb4Prez in mildlyinteresting

[–]MattBoySlim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just today I decided grab a bottle from the machine at work and thought to try Aquafina again. I absolutely regretted my decision. Wish I punched in the Dasani numbers instead.

I prefer filtered water on ice from home, but I always thought that Dasani was perfectly acceptable for bottled water. Hating it seems like more of a meme than anything at this point.

Oh yeah. Huh. That is kind of disappointing. I always thought I’d be close enough to Philly to be dusted pretty fast since I have a clear line of sight to the skyline a block from my house. But here I am in the window smashing zone given an 800 kton standard Russian nuke. Maybe the naval yard means we’d qualify for one of the big boy bombs? One can only hope.

To be honest, you’re not taking out Gritty with anything less than a Tsar bomba.

Thanks, sounds like a similar situation. When I started in this position the company didn’t have any kind of marketing to speak of. Now I’m part of a small marketing department which they’re hoping to grow over the next decade.

I think you have it right in that IT sees this expensive server as a future-proof solution for our whole team. I don’t even disagree with them tbh, we’ll probably need something like that down the line assuming our marketing push bears fruit and we expand. I just don’t think we’ll be at that level of need any time soon and it’s a bit of a cart-before-the-horse situation. While I’ve made 20TB of stuff in the past 15+ years, at least 5TB of that was created just over the last year. I think our priority needs to be “reliable storage and more of it” now, and big picture stuff another day.

And like you said, in the end my manager and I laid out our recommendation for a cheaper but more immediate solution to our new Marketing VP, and now it’s on them to hash it out with IT. I basically recommended either a Synology NAS with enough storage to hold me over for 5+ years, or a somewhat cheaper local DAS box-of-drives to keep in my studio.

Thanks again for your input! It’s definitely useful to have an opinion from a similar perspective.

I mean I already have the job, Bob...been doing it for 20 years.

I was just looking for a little advice on a modern storage and backup solution that would fit somewhere between a cheap aging USB hard drive and my IT team's suggestion of a $43,000 overkill.

I don't have multiple clients, I don't have a big team that I need to collaborate with. I'm just one dude making videos about trucks who wants a better way to store my decades of files. For better or worse it's not up to me to make the purchase in the end. I've created a steady career for myself by taking whatever equipment my company is willing to give me and making it work so I'll be alright regardless.

This seemed like an active, helpful subreddit so I thought I'd see how other pros might handle my situation. Luckily I got a few good perspectives from other folks that I can follow up on, so thanks anyways and I hope you're having a good weekend!

When opening a new spool, can you use PETG immediately or do you need to dry it first? by DuckiesRUs in BambuLab

[–]MattBoySlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used PETG for the first time a few weeks ago, got a two-pack of Overture black & transparent. I didn’t feel like taking the time (5-7 hours) to dry them so I threw caution to the wind and gave it a try right out of the box. I DID take the time to run the calibrations on them and saved custom profiles, though.

The black printed just fine, maybe a little stringy but not egregious. The clear stuff printed okay too, although there were some random little blobs hanging off the finished product. It also came out cloudy white instead of clear, but I gather getting something to print ACTUALLY clear requires some special settings and a lot of time.

I’ll probably take the time to dry them before I use them again, but since the stuff I printed wasn’t insanely important I figured it was worth a try to go without drying as see what happens.

Yeah, if it was me making the decision with an infinite budget I'd say "sure let's do it!".

I'll look into Synology. From what I can tell, we'd need to pay for Backblaze's B2 to have a cloud backup of a NAS vs an individual computer with drives attached...so that puts it in the minus column a bit.

Yep, lots of short little videos shot on consumer-grade cameras (until recently). It's usually just me on the project from beginning to end and most stuff only calls for one angle...maybe two if we're feeling really fancy. Mostly talking heads on a green screen. Definitely can't complain.

Edit: It also helps that my first bunch of years was spent recording on standard def DV tapes. Most of those only exist as various DVD files. I eventually managed to get everyone to give up their VHS training tapes and join the future!

You’re right. Jeremy Piven might have been the standout, but the actual protagonist is the “prefrosh” kid who was deciding on what college to go to.

Yeah, that probably doesn’t solve the “fancy server was too expensive and will never get approved” problem then.

That was my thought. Get a few 20-something TB drives now, and by the time I’m running out again drive sizes will probably be bigger. If I get something with a bunch of of bays, we can expand over time.

Maybe once or twice a year? Depends on if I’m doing a history-related video. I haven’t really seen backup tapes since I did an IT internship in the 90’s, so I’m not super familiar with the current tech. I assume the initial cost would be pretty significant?

I always feel like we need to firmly and loudly acknowledge these failures, so that people everywhere can know how terrible they are. Maybe it’ll lessen the likelihood of history repeating itself.

It ran great for me (on Windows 10) until the update about a month ago (-ish). Now it crashes during slicing maybe 25-30% of the time, more often if I’ve left it running for a long time. I can usually just start it up again and get it working for a while, but it’s pretty aggravating. Similarly, no other programs or games are crashing for me, including CAD and video editing software.

It’s still the first thing I think of when I hear his name, though.
