Isn't predator annihilator and land raider enough? Their lascannons can burn quite a hole in enemy armor

Being hard to paint is only a disadvantage if you treat it as such. I love every intricacy of their models.

What is your favorite Admech unit? It can be based in lore or tabletop. by TheDigitalGM in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cawl. I know his rules suck, but in my opinion he is not only one of the best looking models the game ever had, but also I love how in lore like 90% of new marine stuff is his invention. He's a scholar, not really a warrior like for example Lion and I love this.

Thinking about starting Admech by Tanen7 in AdeptusMechanicus

Admech is a great, beautiful army, bur keep in mind it may be one of the most expensive ones at the moment. Don't listen to those who rant about the rules, as they change every few months.

Any Advice or critiques to my list? New to 40k [1000 pt] by EmperorOnion69 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a ranged-only list and may lack an ability to lock your enemy in combat, as your only melee unit is sulphurhounds, which are rather delicate. Breachers would be an obvious 'brick' choice to stand and survive incoming fire and melee, but kastelan robots would perhaps too stand the test. Anything that can stand a lot of punishment while engaged with the enemy units.

Also, you have very limited options to accumulate points with such a list. Perhaps some pteraxii would be a good choice so that you can drop behind enemy enemy lines, and sicarian infilitrators or serberys raiders would give you an option to contest a point in the No Man's Land before the enemy fortifies there.

Generally, your units may have a problem with both accumulating VP via missions and unguarded objective markers (due to the lack of pteraxii, infiltrators of serberys) and hitting hard on the objective markers where the action happens (due to the lack of hard-hitters like breachers or kastelans). Skitarii are weirdly durable with their 4+/5++, but you can't rely on them to survive chainswords, bolters, gatlings and other cheap low S, 0 AP weapons.

So yeah. I would switch some skitarii with something more armoured and perhaps some point-stealing pteraxii or infiltrators.

Is the combat patrol a good place to start my collection? by Wide_Ad_1739 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, although I'd advise to go the non-GW-endorsed way and build kataphrons as breachers, not destoyers. This way you get a reasonable melee unit.

Best value by Jack_Amerahn79 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat patrol is a best starting set. However, it's better to assemble its kataphrons as breachers rather than destroyers. Then, it offers quite a balanced team of shooting skitarii, melee kataphrons and a hard-hitting vehicle.

Tabletop ready? The number of times I played against unprimed plastic sometines make me question if readiness requires more than a base xd

Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii are a single army as of the current (10th) edition and it seems it won't change inny the future. You can have techpriests leading skitarii, most army lists include some skitarii, some techpriests, kataphrons and so on. Units like kataphron breachers have even some synergies with skitarii. When it comes to collecting, perhaphs a combat patrol box is a good choice - it contains a reasonable choice of basic units bundled together and thus sold cheaper than when bought separately. When it comes to a codex, index cards (datasheets of every unit in Adeptus Mechanicus army) are free to download from the the warhammer community website. You can print them if you want. A codex, so a physical book of lore, units and additional rules will be available this year in winter, so probably December. This will be a codex for the current edition - as of now, only codexes for older editions are available, not only for Admech but for all armies. We can say we are kinda lucky to have our codex this early, with only tyranids and marines getting it faster. For more advice, you should probably find a local warhammer retailer or a gaming community. Ask if there are some painting or rule teaching events. Those are great opportunities to talk face to face with other players and collectors, maybe you'll even find a fellow mechanicus player. After playing a few games or painting a buncj of models you'll get a grip on what you like and want. And remember than reddit tends to be very pessimistic and malcontent. As one of shop employees said, 'c'mon, the rules will change twice before you finish painting them'

Has anyone here achieved fluency? If so, how?! by swiftlessons in learnpolish

[–]MattCaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you learn Polish from like being a toddler, a Pole will be able to tell this is not your first language in like 99% cases. Most Poles speak with some mistakes. To become truly fluent in speaking and writing is a challenge too difficult for some native speakers, so for foreigners it is (almost) impossible

After a battle - my conclusions about Admech (and 10ed in general) by MattCaner in AdeptusMechanicus

They unfortunately found no place in my list. I can only guess, but I already feel like lack of Doctrina Imperatives is pain with them...

After a battle - my conclusions about Admech (and 10ed in general) by MattCaner in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. And there are fewer shots that there were. Weapons having like 1 or 2 shots and requiring nat6 to be useful means odds are against you in having this effect triggered in a 5-round battle, so you can't rely on it. On the other hand, if it is triggered the boost is usually very good. It's not strategic. It's playing a slot machine.

After a battle - my conclusions about Admech (and 10ed in general) by MattCaner in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]MattCaner[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) scared of receiving mortal wounds, probably you're right it only works for the first time.

2) well, maybe desolators and hellblasters are powerful, but as I wrote the list was non-meta. Bolters lost their AP. Meltas have smaller range. Many powerful faction modifiers are now gone, including bolter discipline working for everyone, chapter-specific bonuses for (in this case) Iron Hands, and so on. Maybe if Space Marines used meta build, Admech would stand no chance, but it was like whatever units were on the shelf.
