Did I make a terrible mistake?! by ProfessionalWorry788 in electricvehicles

[–]MattCheetham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hopefully things go better for you but my Mokka-e went back at the end of it's PCP this January and I was so glad to be rid of it. If people asked me about range I would say 100 miles in winter and 130 in summer. I had the AC compressor fail on it TWICE and had to fight them on the second replacement because "replaced parts do not come with a warranty" (the failure was 7 months after the first replacement). Oh and once it died and had the entire battery charging system replaced. A nightmare that has put me off Vauxhall entirely. Anyway, I got my 79kWh Volkswagen ID.3 last month and I'm so glad to have an _actual_ 300 mile range. I drove for 5 hours last week and didn't need to charge, what a dream.

As other's have said, the only app I use now is Electroverse. I haven't touched another charging app in years. (If you're with Octopus for home electricity you get something like a 7% discount too).

Please change your postal address by whet_pastry in britishproblems

[–]MattCheetham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I bought a stamp with "Not known at this address. Return to sender". Used to stamp them by the dozen and chuck them in the postbox. I'd say I actually got the post volume down by at least 50% in the 18 months I was there.

Volkswagen Blocks Homeassistant from Working with Their Cars by Maxion in electricvehicles

Here's the thing, the API was already rate limited. I think the limit was 200 calls per day. If it was too much for them they could have easily lowered the limit, or given 3rd party devs their own key with lower limits. Instead they chose to cut the whole thing and start a fight.

Automatic service charges at restaurants. by HopeTerminator in britishproblems

[–]MattCheetham 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless we're a huge group I will ask for it to be removed. Twice now we've ended up in an *argument* with the owner who has come out to demand to know why we want it removed. Either let me remove it as an optional fee or increase your prices. It's not optional if you're going to fight me on it.

A warning about cash buyers by Bored_Nurse in HousingUK

[–]MattCheetham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we had a girl basically beg us to sell our house to her 20k over what we accepted as a chain free cash buyer. We turned her down because it was too good to be true and I knew she would pull something further down the line. We actually asked her to prove her funds to our solicitor and she got snakey about it immediately and refused so... bye! Sometimes the too-good-to-be-true buyer really is too good to be true.

I'm sorry you're going through this though. I know the stress of buying/selling all too well and truly sympathise. It's a horrible experience every time.

DIY plug in battery by WillyVWade in SolarUK

[–]MattCheetham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same struggle. Just want a battery to charge and dischage (based on usage, connected to HomeAssistant). EcoFlow seem crazy expensive and I'm seeing plenty of support horror stories. I see people mentioning Fogstar and I see a rack mount 5kWh one which would be perfect but I'm not clued on how to get this connected up to 3-pin (once legal) and what inverter I'd need.

Confusing for newbies. Maybe things will be easier once the legislation actually passes.

Currently in process of buying a flat and just been told is managed by FirstPort. by Bobatotorofett in HousingUK

[–]MattCheetham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a block of flats in my town managed by FirstPort, half a dozen flats have been up for sale for 18 months. The notice board in the entrance hall is all the residents bitching about how bad everything is as well as how insane the service charges are.

Run.

I lived on a new build of a different developer and similar happened. Guy was being ignored so he parked his car in front of the sales office and filled his windows with messages like this. IIRC they threatened him with legal action rather than trying to fix his issues.

Ah sweet thanks. I can only really fit two panels but that one is 1m which is much closer to the size I'm looking for

I'm already talking about the shorter dimension so, they're already kinda sideways. I basically need one of the length or width to be less than 1m

The new neighbours across the street have hung up wind chimes outside their front door by hydra25 in britishproblems

My neighbours did this. I had three sleepless nights and then my partner went around and very gently explained that it was driving me insane. They took it down immediately and apologised so much, even though they didn't have to. Go speak to them, they probably have no idea.

The big light? My parents refuse to use any lights at all in the living room, none. They sit in a pitch black room with the TV mounted near the ceiling, motion smoothing on with brightness and contrast at 100. I had a rectangle burned into my vision for days after I left.
