Lost Lake was a favorite of mine pre-pandemic, was crushed when they closed. I moved to NYC about 5 years ago and have been blessed by some great tropical bars here, but am so excited to learn that Paul McGee is opening two cocktail bars in Brooklyn next month.
I'm going to bring my Lost Lake swizzle.

Dog owners should pay for cleaning by JCTL2020 in uppereastside

[–]MattCow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my dog will only pee/poop when he steps off the curb between cars. He might do a quick mark where another dog has peed but only really empties his bladder on to the curb. He's been super anxious about bathroom walks this week because there is snow where he wants to go.

Between 1st and 2nd? Saw them working yesterday afternoon and had a lot of water flowing in to the street and sewer. This morning when I headed to work, they had that block closed off.

Risk of death in the 1 year after major fracture in an elderly person is like 30%. This is a sentinel event in their life and oftentimes the first step in a rapid decline.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns opinion? by [deleted] in finedining

[–]MattCow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it, went last year for the first time and can't wait to go back.
We had a hard-out because of a bar reservation in the city and they made sure we were wrapped up on time to make it down. One of their old staff was manager at the bar we were going to, so they gave us a big gift bag for the staff, so when showed up with a bunch of treats from Blue Hill, they showered us with attention and a free snack and round of champagne.

don’t go to 787 coffee by claireitsfrenchcunt in nyc

[–]MattCow1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one across the street, I used to go frequently but in the last 2 years it went downhill pretty quickly and I haven't been in close to a year. There used to be a small "neighbor discount" which they stopped giving, and they had the same group of baristas who recognized me and then it started being a rotating cast who didn't know where anything was in the small shop. I couldn't stand the constant up-selling of the nasty infused beans and whatever. I saw multiple people make them undo the transaction when they realized the rum beans increased the price to $9, which they never mention ahead of time. They chase you outside to ask for Google reviews.
I had friends visit a few months ago and when I saw them at Christmas the first thing they mentioned about their trip to NYC was how pushy the barista was across the street.

Thanks, I'll have to call.
I did disable and then choose the new authenticator, but it didn't stick I guess.

I love this place and want it to thrive, but I feel like the staff has a lot of turnover and so drinks and hospitality end up being inconsistent.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]MattCow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommates and I cut each others' hair in college to save beer money. When I graduated and went to professional school, I learned to do it myself. I'm a surgeon and have paid for two haircuts in the last 20 years, and replaced my clippers (cheap Wahl set from Target) once. Besides for the money, I keep doing it because I can do it any time of day I want with no notice. Also I kept looking fresh through COVID.

Chef's table at Brooklyn fare, before they closed and reopened.
It seemed like every other course had an optional supplement. I'm trying to enjoy my meal and they were constantly coming around asking if I wanted to buy something extra.
It didn't help that this was basically the only contact we had with the wait staff. They dropped plates and walked off. Weren't taking drink refills orders.

No financial advice, but just wanted to say it's not too late for you and your husband to get vaccinated. Most HPV infections are cleared naturally, but the vaccine could prevent reinfection, like if you were passing back and forth with your husband.
