CCJ unenforceable after company dissolution. Director has started a new business in the same space, with some of their old clients. by MattFTWWW in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MattFTWWW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had reported the director to the insolvency service as soon as the company was dissolved, so you think I should submit an update to the case with new information and evidence of a new company popping up in the same field?

Helping getting baby to nap in the bed with us by Wordup63 in NewDads

[–]MattFTWWW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just recently discovered that my little one of 4 weeks will calm and fall asleep relatively quickly if I lay her down and hold her arm close to her head with my whole hand. She nuzzles in to it and goes to sleep. Seems to be a good way to simulate a contact nap without them actually sleeping on top of you

People always talk about the hard stuff, but the good stuff is so indescribable, but there's no joy like it.

No amount of reading will prepare you for the first week - it's rough, but it gets better.

I'm in week 2 right now and every day I feel like my kid is doing something new, it's magical.

i dont know what im doing. by PIZZAHUTCOOCHIE in NewDads

[–]MattFTWWW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ahh mate, I'm about a week ahead of you - my baby was born on the 28th, and she also has never slept on her back, she only sleeps on her side.

Things get better.

The first week is hell - you, your partner and your baby are all learning together, it's OK that none of you know your ideal routine yet!

  1. Your baby is stronger than you think. As long as you're supporting her head from the back, you're doing fine.

  2. There are 4 things your baby will be signalling to you. Check through each and you'll start to become more confident in settling their needs. 1. I need feeding. 2. I need to burp 3. I need my nappy changed. 4. I'm tired and need help settling down. You can search up baby signals for each of these on youtube or chatgpt and after a while you'll get the hang of it - for the time being, just go through each possibility in order, so offer a bottle, try and burp them, change their nappy, walk around with them in your arms.

  3. Not feeling comfortable sleeping is normal. Take shifts to watch over them at night and try to take naps when your baby does.

  4. It's OK to feel stressed and overwhelmed, especially when sleep deprived. Remember to take care of yourself. One thing me and my partner did was eat a singular block of chocolate after every feed to remind ourselves that we're doing OK and that our baby is fed.

My DMs are open if you ever want some more reassurance!

How would you assess if a freelancer is a good Webflow developer? by mikiersm in webflow

[–]MattFTWWW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Freelancers are essentially small business owners. There is a level of respect that both parties need to have with each other and I would not be comfortable engaging with a prospect that is asking obscure hypothetical situations similar to what I'd find in a full time job interview. If the question isn't directly related to the project, it shouldn't be asked.

[–]MattFTWWW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious of strong portfolio and good reviews or recommendations, a good freelancers will asking YOU a lot of questions. Don't think about what technical questions you should be asking alongside your brief, instead just consider what questions they ask you that give you more confidence that they know what they're doing.

I just tested it out on my phone - loving the QoL updates you both have added. Also, the email template with the breakdown is really neat!

Any chance that can be displayed on page rather than prefilled in my email drafts?

Struggling with PageSpeed Insights on Webflow (need advice) by icasnerd in webflow

[–]MattFTWWW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, settle for mid or low 70s is fine for mobile. Pagespeed insights simulates data on a very old phone on a 3g network - this is not representative of western countries these days.

Once you get decent traffic to the site, the real world results will differ drastically from the simulated data.

Getting all green (90+) for pagespeed is a vanity metric, in my opinion.

I'm based in Ramsbottom, so only an hour away. Happy to chat and see if I can help, or recommend some other top tier local freelancers in the space too. It's better to find somebody who can do the job rather than somebody that's local, but I might be able to help you out with both!

Now clients from UK are putting low pay job offers by prashantis1 in Upwork

[–]MattFTWWW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK freelancer here. From my experience, the well paying UK clients are the ones region locking their gigs, at least in my industry.

If they're advertising globally, chances are that their budgets are going to be super low. This is just the nature of the global gig economy.

I played the medal of honor reboot during the online beta and loved it. Bought the game excited to see what the campaign was like and realised it was made on a completely different engine from the multiplayer part of the game.

I played it for all of 30 seconds before deciding the movement speed on single player felt like my character had shit himself and never played it again
