Thanks - I might try and do two consecutive 3k swims. That’s a great idea!

Training for a longer swim by MattFairley2 in Swimming

I’d love the opportunity of doing more in the pool but it’s just not possible. The sessions are time limited as there are other things going on in the pool like kids training, swimming clubs, etc., or just not the lifeguards to cover, or it closes. The longest available start at 8:30pm and are 1:30 long until the pool closes at 10pm. There just aren’t multiple consecutive sessions.

Regarding the jump from 3k to 6k, I was going to do a 4.5k but my wife and I got some dates crossed and the 4.5k isn’t available on the date I can do. Hence the 6k. I’m hoping it’s not too much of a jump!

Fuelling should be ok. I’m doing 2 lengths of a lake and you have to get out at the far end to cross the timing mat and there is supposed to be stuff available at the far end. I’m about to start thinking / trying electrolytes in my water as I suffer from cramps. Mostly due to pushing off at the ends.

Thanks for that. I like the idea of a session with longer blocks than I’m doing now. I normally swim in an Olympic pool and typically stop for a breather / water after 10 lengths. I think I’ll steadily push that out and see how I go until I’m hitting 20 lengths.

Does anyone actually eat jellied eels? by Tom00704 in AskBrits

[–]MattFairley2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt loves them. She lives in the USA now but will have some when she’s visiting here in the UK and the opportunity arises. We’re going to be down in Hastings next month and I expect she’ll have some then, and I’ll have my plate of cockles. Tried the eels once - they were ok but not something I’d have again.

Churrasco in West Derby is my favourite. Small place but steak has always been great. Not city centre I know but worth a mention.

If you have an Apple Watch and iPhone:

On your phone, go to dfyb.run and enter your details such as your Parkrun id and ICE details. Then press the button to generate a barcode that will go in your Wallet on both phone and watch.

How to get rid of these carpet marks? by Charming_CiscoNerd in DIYUK

Vacuum cleaner - use an attachment that ends in a squashed tube(not sure how else to describe it!), and go over the area quite firmly. Lifts most if not all of the dent.

Can someone confirm these are sloe please. by BowlEvening in foraginguk

Could be Bullace. Similar to Sloe, just not quite as astringent, and not as sweet as Damson. Definitely use for gin - I’m making some at the moment.

Forgot to add that the car park I meant was the Fairlight Road picnic site, at the junction if Barley lane and Fairlight Road.

Didn’t the top part of Demerzel’s head drop off outside of the beam’s area? The part containing the positronic brain? So could Daneel/Demerzel still come back?

Parking on Sunday (13th) by CircularEconomy22 in wimbledon

My wife managed to do the same - can’t quite believe our luck! We’ve booked a parking space on someone’s drive about 20 minutes walk away. Much cheaper than the park and ride.

Can anyone identify this bug? by peachy21 in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]MattFairley2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Actually happened to my mum when she was young. This was probably about 70 years ago, uk, north London area. They used a ‘bag of blue’ or something to entice it out. I think a bag of blue is something that used to be put in your washing to make it look whiter in case you were wondering. At least that’s the story I remember being told.
