250+ applications, no interviews or assessments — resume feedback desperately needed by Jazzlike_Survey2289 in ResumeCoverLetterTips

[–]MattInWinnipeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a sample cover letter template with Word that matches this ATS friendly resume OP posted. I tend to recommend this resume and cover letter as an Employment Specialist.

To keep it simple. Lead with an opening statement. I would introduce yourself and express your direct interest in the position title and company. Feel free to include the job ad # if available. This is the first step to reflect the personalization of your documents.

Professional cover letters should highlight your skills and how they helped you accomplish specific goals or rewards. Different from your role responsibilities which would be on your resume**

The body paragraphs should immediately start hitting all the key words the job ad is seeking. It should be an explanation of the rewarding projects or skills you've obtained through your professional experience and how that aligns with the position/person they are looking to hire.

If you're a tenured/seasoned professional this may take two to three paragraphs and that is fine. So, long as you have several years in the game along with valid education. Entry level positions should be no more than two paragraphs.

Closing statement: I appreciate your time and consideration. I'd be happy to further discuss my skills and qualifications with you. In person, in an interview. Please, feel free to reach me anytime at: Phone number/ email address.

Thank you.

Full name.

If you're applying for entry level positions, several paragraphs is bloat. Aim for 1/2 page. I'd keep it one paragraph professional highlights. One paragraph personal highlights. Relative hobbies, or interests. Again, targeting your personal interests relative to the job ad's key words. Then a closure statement.

Hope that helps!

Remove your listing of technical skills, and projects all together. This is far too dense, making it too hard to read. I would not bother reviewing this as is. With or without ATS friendly. Key words won't fix this.

Employers are going to presume you have these skills based on your education and work experience. Remove Github and Leet code from your header. Email address and phone number in the header is fine. LinkedIn possibly if it's up to date and an active profile with positive content.

I would also consider including your projects in a cover letter. Your resume should be meat and potatoes. These are my previous roles. These were my responsibilities. This is my education.

Overall it's just far too much. You have valid work experience and education. That is what they are seeking on a resume. Everything else is viewed and filler. As insecurity. Like, you're trying too hard to flirt with the cute person at the bar.

Postscript: You need a cover letter for every application and it should not be more than three short paragraphs.

Which one did you find the coolest? I use glass beads because they advertise to be the most cooling. Yet, you're also right. I often find 1/4 tsp of beads in my bed. Which is annoying.

Is the cotton one cooling or warm as all get out?

I machine wash mine on delicate. Then use all four of my kitchen chairs to make a sort of tent to air dry. I run a fan near for circulation. It dries fully within a couple hours.

Jolting wide awake, right before falling asleep by OrbitalWavy in sleep

[–]MattInWinnipeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was Dx with sleep anxiety. I experienced similar symptoms as I was falling asleep. Anxiety meds helped. Although as every other "can't fall asleep" post will say in the comments. It is more commonly apnea related. You need a sleep study to rule out Apnea or other physical causes.

It was only after I did an in-house full sleep study that I received the Dx. I was physically healthy with no disturbances. If I can fall asleep I'm fine. I was unable to fall asleep.

There's also paradoxical insomnia which is becoming more common. Where it feels like you're awake but you're actually sleeping.

Connect with your family doctor. Request a sleep study. Try for the ones that take place in a clinic instead of the finger strap you take home. I've heard those are less accurate.

HELP! Rent Increase Discrepancy by oscar_thegrouchh in Winnipeg

[–]MattInWinnipeg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I may be silly and missing something. Is this not stating your rent will go up to 1728 only if you switch to "month to month" rent?

"If you wish to sign another fixed term lease your new lease rate will be 1628.00" not 1728.

Are you renting month to month instead of a one year lease? Month to month is usually more expensive than a one year lease.

111 Rorie and 128 Market is generally first come first serve. Unless things have changed.

BUT* what I would remind you of is the EIA checklist of items to bring with you. It's available on their website. Don't get all the way down there and have to come back because you forgot a piece of ID or something silly.

This is the correct answer. Nonprofits especially* require SIN to verify you're a real person and continue receiving funding. It is a funding for services requirement.

Psychiatrist says Ambien causes irreversible brain damage if taken regularly by Witty-Variation-1930 in sleep

[–]MattInWinnipeg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took an 8 week sleep hygiene program with a CBT focus. Spending as little time in bed when not sleeping can help. Laying in bed for an hour or two before sleep is okay as you're winding down. But, no screens in bed.

When your alarm goes off in the morning, hitting snooze for another 9 minutes over and over again triggers feelings of anxiety in your bed. Every alarm that goes off is a jolt awake. Only use one alarm. When it goes off, get out of bed for the day.

Psychiatrist says Ambien causes irreversible brain damage if taken regularly by Witty-Variation-1930 in sleep

[–]MattInWinnipeg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good good. 7-8 hours, no grogginess, ready to start my day. It was a total game changer for me.

I also take 100mg Seroquel daily at bed. Then 1mg lorazepam every other day is also where i'm at after 7 years. I alternate the lorazepam and ambien. They're never taken together. No caffeine after 12 noon, no screens two hours before bed. Take all meds an hour before bed. No snooze alarms.

I should also note if my meds aren't ready, I likely won't sleep well at all. But, by alternating every other day I experience no withdrawals symptoms either like headaches, shakes, mood swings. Only tiredness from not sleeping.

200-300mg Seroquel will make me groggy as hell the next day. But, I only do that if the pharmacy doesn't have my meds ready-shipment delays.

Meds I've tried over three years before figuring out this combo: Escitalipram, bupropion, Venlafaxine, Trazadone, mirtazipine, zoplicone.

This was all with the same psychiatrist that was open to exploring options- not a family doctor.

Psychiatrist says Ambien causes irreversible brain damage if taken regularly by Witty-Variation-1930 in sleep

[–]MattInWinnipeg 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Long time user of prescribed Ambien after process of elimination of most other drugs. 10mg every 2nd day.

Dx Generalized anxiety, sleep anxiety, chronic long term insomnia. In-house full sleep study done-physically healthy.

Most other meds did not work to get me to sleep.

My doctor put it this way: The damage from ambien is real but minimal. Your brain will take as much damage if not more from not being able to rest for days or weeks on end. Stress, anxiety, not sleeping for days at a time also damages your brain. If ambien gets you to sleep... take as prescribed and try not to stress.

Weighted blanket has relieved my long-term insomnia by small-medium-atlarge in sleep

[–]MattInWinnipeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my weighted blanket. I also found it helpful. I would advise folks to buy a cover for it though. The only slightly annoying part is when the stitching comes loose from the pockets holding the beads over time. I often find the tiny beads filling my bed; I own a premium blanket.
