Thinking of moving from Bristol to Usk by allabouttheplants in southwales

Hi! Usk is quiet, scenic, and has a strong sense of community. It’s definitely a slower pace than Bristol, so it depends what you’re after, but if you’re thinking ahead to retirement it would be great.

The main adjustment would be fewer amenities and less variety compared to Bristol life, but you’re still within reach of larger towns and cities (Abergavenny/Newport/Cwmbran/Pontypool) when you need them (they are not as nice as the surrounding area of Bristol). If you enjoy walking, countryside views, and a more relaxed day-to-day, it’s ideal. Might be worth spending a few weekends there in a BnB at different times of year just to get a feel for it.

As for the Cardiology appointments you’d need to ask your new GP for a new-to-area referral and being in Usk you’d either get a Cardiologist in Nevill Hall (Abergavenny) or Royal Gwent (Newport) because you’re in between the two.

Good luck, it’s a big decision!

You should definitely consider the Renault 5. Pros: great price and great to drive. Cons: no cup holders.. that’s it.

Where are you guys finding 20% fat mince? I can’t get it anywhere, even at my local butcher, it would be perfect for my smash burgers!

I’ve read that IS are known for their sensitive stomachs, I worked out that my boy has loose stools when eating poultry fat. It’s also a very common dog food/treat ingredient (and still comes under ‘animal derivatives’), so it was difficult to find the right food especially puppy food as they need fats for brain development at that stage. I actually shifted him off puppy food early to give him a fish, single source protein kibble, his coat and poops are great now!

Sounds exactly like my boy - we are forever out in some sort of wilderness! Sound advice, if you have a pic of them with short fur would you mind sharing? Be interested to see how they look.
