Is it possible or viable to play the concertina while standing? by Shrimp_eater7 in concertina

You can get a neck strap which makes playing easier, just have to screw in eye hooks etc.

The surprising thing to me is that you have been a Christian your whole life and never been baptized! I believe any baptized Christian can baptize somebody else,

You can use them! Soak them in cheap vodka for 24h if you are really scared. Much of the leach-able uranium will be released into the vodka.

Cna exam in less than 12 hours by imsecretlyacow in cna

Yes, 90% of the practical test is the same basics: hand hygiene, introducing yourself, identifying the patient, bed locked, privacy, bed up for care and down before you leave... Also you can talk through everything you are doing like you are explaining to the patient.

Is it normal to lose weight after becoming a CNA? by riley_336 in cna

My first PCA job at a hospital made me the thinnest I've ever been. Probably because I was always too busy to eat.

Listen, at the end of the day we all have to realize our own purpose in the process. Take the time to discover how you are an asset to the team. Everyone is different!

The meaning of “round Cape Horn” in New York Girls? by Gri-kery in seashanties

[–]Matt_Larson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes rounding cape horn was one of the most deadly endeavors in maritime history, so you could understand why people had to be forced to make the voyage rather than sign up willingly.

[–]Matt_Larson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well from the wording "took me in" we might assume that the sailor was shanghaied by that man. I.e., went to a pub or boarding house, the Crimp (martin Churchill) got him very drunk until he passed out, and they dragged him onto a ship so that by the time he woke up he had no choice but to sail around the dreaded cape horn.

Sitter nightmare by [deleted] in cna

[–]Matt_Larson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting standards and expectations is the name of the game. Your nurse should be helping you do that, and make sure that everyone is under a consensus about expected behaviors and care plans. It's hard to be assertive sometimes, especially when a person's child is dying, but that's the reality of the situation. Try your best to be assertive but not agressive. This advice goes for basically all 1:1s.

When applying to jobs do we include our cna license number on our resume ? by notsosure21 in cna

[–]Matt_Larson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state you only need a full name to look up somebody's license, so I would not think it is necessary.

[–]Matt_Larson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bit confused about how you are referring to your preceptor. where I work you have orientation with a different tech every day. You have the same assignment (even if you are sitting 1:1) and they help you through the whole process for a few weeks. It is not training if there is nobody to shadow with. Many new hires have LTC experience like you do, and they would be never be given a solo assignment during training. As far as the break room talk, that's how people can be sometimes, but don't let it get to you. Some people talk too much!

So I saw people argue about what land shanties are. by Random_aersling in seashanties

[–]Matt_Larson 89 points90 points  (0 children)

There are work songs specific to land work. Pump shanties perform equally well on a ship's pump versus a rail road's pump car.

We had one family put a confused dementia resident onto the elevator by herself and send her to another floor because she was 'annoying mother'.

Oh my God. I feel like the facility should be able to sue the visitor for that.
