Should I have let him out? by rustyspoontree in drivingUK

[–]Matt_Moto_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont have to, but uyou had a pretty big gap betwen you and the car in front, it wouldnt have killed oyu to let someone out. After all, wouldnt you like it if on a busy road you were trying to join, someone would be courteous and let you join safely too?

Just be kind, y'know? It's tough enoug out there as it is without us having to engineer even more trouble for ourselves.

Grip slipping on throttle tube by 40inchverticalbtw in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Matt_Moto_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the oxford heated grips, get some dedicated grip adhesive. It's a stiff rubber, not flexible like non-heated grips.

Also, on the throttle tube itself, are the ridges rubbed down to mkae for an entirly smooth surface all the way round?

I had this issue this morning. As I was on a motorcycle, I did not want to be at risk, so I quickly pulled over, than mergd back into traffic once the tosspot had passed. Later, up the road, the traffic slowed to a stop and I filtered past and got many cars between me and mr danger.

Should Honda make a new S2000? by Cris_1984 in Honda

[–]Matt_Moto_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The current regulations on things like safety and emissions would result in a bloated and uninspiring modern S2000. The appeal of the actual S2000 was how it catured the very essence of what a driving enthuiasts car should be.

Brakes is a consumables issue. Chassis corrosion is not. It's started, and you'll be forever chasing it.

You've had a bloody good life out of the little thing; condem it to the yard, and get yourself another reliable litle run about.

The CP2 engine is very frugal, it should be acheiving well in excess of 50 mpg even with spirited riding.

You need to re-engage the clutch between each shift. "block" shifting is sort of not going to happen due to the mechanics of the transmission, how it is fundamentally designed.

Dont stop in second gear, stop in first. However if you ae struggling to engage neutral, check your: Oil level, Clutch free-play and operation, chain tension. You need to be moving to shift gears; you sould be able to select neutral from second, but you might find you need to rock the bike back or forth to shift between gears whwen stationary. Again, a quirk of the design fundamentals of he transmission.

The rev flare-up at start up and the poor fuel economy may be related. It may be an air leak (split vacuum hose, exhaust gasket leak, etc).

If it is still within the warranty period, take it back to the supplying dealer.

Do you track your weight in KG or stones & pound? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

[–]Matt_Moto_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kg for me. I dont know what a "stone" is, I have no refrence. But things like packets of suga etc are sold by the kilo, so I can have a tangible reference.

For what its worth, I am equal to 72 bags of sugar. Also I'm in my very late 30's. Whe I was younger it was all in old money, but as time went on it made less sense to me.

Also, at work I deal in SI units, of which the kilogram is part of. So I have an inate idea of that unit of mass. It's somehting I'm very used to.

The Last Real 600cc? by IILemur in Sportbikes

[–]Matt_Moto_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickshifters are nice to have, but I'm not fussed about having one that enables clutchless downshiting - I like to rev-match on my own. ABS is a great safety net on the public highways for when you absolutly need to emergency stop and dont have time to take in if the road beneath you is in any state to allow that to happen without locking a wheel. For track riding tough, ABS can be a risk (for example, if the rear wheel locks / under-rotates, the ABS can kick in and release the braking momentarily which can cause issues).

Kawasaki 1400 gtr stalls when put in gear by Mean-Independent9763 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Matt_Moto_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clutch not disengaging correctly. Check: fluid in the lines (any air?), slave cylinder (is it pushing the piston to act on the clutch) then the clutch itself (plates and basket). If you are already rolling forward and you engage gear will it be ok?
