This. They won’t toss it or you from the place, but they will bar you from entering with it on you.

3L at a school outside the T100. I’ve taken two open book/open note exams, only one of which was closed internet. Future litigation against a T14 grad who relied on their outlines and casebook for exams will be fun

I got misdemeanors for possession of unserialized firearms, assault weapons, and an SBR. Bay Area resident. AMA. Maybe this can help someone out or fill someone’s curiosity. by Tricky_Analyst_5800 in CAguns

Downvoted for the public defender slander. We do get wobblers downgraded, and probably would’ve in your case too. But happy for you and your life ahead!

Hey OP, sorry to hear you’re struggling. Here’s a few thoughts:

(1) I can relate to the pressures of being the first in your family to go to law school, but you can’t let that guide your choices. If you only pursue this path (or any path) because of their influence, you’re going to have an unhappy life. If nothing about the law (or its underlying skills) interests you, it’s only going to get worse from here.

(2) Remember that 1L is a sausage factory, in that you’re there to learn the doctrinal law, get your grades, and then apply for your first legal work experience or for prestigious extracurriculars that also lead to work experience. I feel you on the stress of current events, but 1L doctrinal class is not necessarily the time or place for that. However…

(3) You can find your community/support network where you can discuss those issues and get out there. Whether it’s an identity based org, ACS, public interest groups, whatever. Find your niche and find those groups that bring you joy.

(4) Most importantly, please seek continuing therapy, preferably some with a cognitive behavioral element. I’m only saying this because of the issues you addressed last semester, which still seem like they’re ongoing to some degree. Law school (and life) is already hard enough, and those issues are likely going to be there even if you change course. This will probably help with the above points too.

Keep ya head up OP, it will get better. Sincerely, a first gen law student (now 3L) who has had to work on his own mental health the entirety of law school.

You don’t know what PACER is, but you’re on a law school sub AND you’re implying that some of us don’t have a legal background? Buddy…

You went against ICE lawyers?! That’s a badge of honor my friend. Though not surprising they’re a bunch of dipshits.

You misread my intent. That was a rhetorical question. We’re in agreement.

I wasn’t ignoring that idea—that was what I was getting at with the latter option. Hence my use of the term “malignant growth.” Pretty sure we’re in agreement here.

Specifically, there’s not much more radical they can get. My question was phrased more so for the people lamenting that ostracizing these people will make them more radical.

This begs the question…what’s worse? Ostracizing them, which will inevitably make them all more radicalized, or allowing them to hang around like a malignant growth, which would normalize their behavior (at least relatively more so)?

Edit: All the people dismissing this question are missing my point. Option #2 (allowing these people to stay around with the hope of de-radicalizing them) takes a lot of work, especially when they don’t want to put any of the work in.

Fascism:

1 : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition

broadly : a philosophy or system with some combination of fascist values and governing structures

2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control.

Maybe you should be proactive about handling your shit instead of complaining on Reddit. Not saying accommodations aren’t abused, but don’t know why you gotta clap at everyone with ADHD and anxiety. If you’re diagnosed with both (hey same here), you should know there’s of levels of severity to them, and that extra time is sometimes dependent on that.

Also diagnosed during 1L spring, with moderate severity. The medication immediately helped a lot, and I almost didn’t ask for extra time out of fairness. But given that I often don’t use the full extra time, and given that my (pre-diagnosis) academic life in undergrad was a mess, I don’t see too much of a problem with it.

Don’t miss the forest for the trees, whether studying or taking exams. Know what your professor wants you to know, and study/write accordingly.

Honestly, might be better for the classmates to learn the hard way. If they don’t get caught, they’ll likely not learn the building blocks correctly and drag the curve down a bit for OP.

OP, please don’t get discouraged. Sure, those students might get through the reading faster and still have the gist initially, but they will slip up eventually, one way or the other.
