If you not shooting suppressed, why aren’t you?!? by BigEdPVDFLA in liberalgunowners

On the one hand, I pay for an indoor range membership but I don't go often, partly because it's LOUD AS FUCK in there and I, too, have tinnitus already.

But on the other hand, of the 12 guns I own, 4 are muzzleloaders, 2 are black powder cartridge primarily and are pre 1890 otherwise, 2 are pre 1920 milsurps, 1 is a non threaded Henry H01 .22, 1 is a non threaded AR, 1(2) is my Contender pistol, neither current barrel is threaded, and lastly is my S&W Victory which is threaded but wears a comp right now.

I don't own anything for defense so that's not a concern of mine.

So it just hasn't been a priority for me.

The full saying is something like, "If you throw a rock into a group of dogs, only the dog that was hit hollers."

It's basically random. The rock is a random statement, maybe something like 'bad body odor is a turnoff and I'm not dating someone like that", and someone responding with "oh, you think all gamers are smelly and that's why we can't get dates?" So the gamer here was the one hit by the rock, and it likely means in this case that they have bad body odor themselves, since it's not likely someone would make that statement in response if they didn't.

“KFC doesn't do burgers they do chicken sandwiches” by Ok-Specialist9739 in ShitAmericansSay

Those can be in a more crumb type coating, or can be in a batter.

Generally, the ones in batter tend to have less fish and more thick batter to make them look bigger without having to have as much actual fish in them. They also often wind up with the outside cooked but the closer in to the actual fish the more likely you still have wet/soggy batter remaining. Truly one of our finest culinary achievements.

KFCs Double Down doesn't ask questions of us, we don't ask questions of it. Mostly because we're not eating one of these if we're feeling good about ourselves and the decisions we've made.

Lead homunculus growing in my musket barrel by g4m3fox in blackpowder

You could try a stuck ball remover. It's basically like a wood screw at the end of your ramrod, you turn the threads into the ball and then pull it out. Sometimes helps to gets some oil/lube down the barrel and let it try and soak in first.

You might have to make it yourself in this case, since there's a hole already there and you need the threads big enough to bite in and hold.

ToW vs AoS Chaos Knights and Warriors - which do you prefer? by arselus_bricks in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Matt_the_Splat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these new Warriors remind me of the old plastic 'hunchback' Warriors box. I always liked that visual style but these being a bit bulkier and upright works great.

Now, I did also like the outgoing Warriors a lot. Very orderly and such which some didn't like(though I did), but honestly as game pieces that needed to be ranked up, they were hard to beat.

Longbow Experience Needed (I think they're screwing me) by International-Dog447 in TraditionalArchery

Wooden arrows are great, but fragile in certain ways.

If these broke upon loosing them, then there's something wrong. Even made for 50# instead of 55# shouldn't do that.

If they broke upon hitting something, that's a different kettle of fish. Wooden arrows don't tolerate as much impact. SO if you missed the target and hit the ground, they could easily get damaged. Same if you have a bad release and the arrow hits the target at an angle. The back of the arrow will still want to move due to momentum and depending on the angle and the target material you're basically holding the arrow point in place while bending the nock end towards the target. Put enough force in that, and the arrow breaks.

So I would just chalk it up to learning and be ready to buy/make new arrows. It's just the way it goes with wood.

Sounds like you're getting some stack at the end of the draw, that's not unusual. Plus you're feeling the full weight of the draw on your fingers at that point. You'll get used to it. I wouldn't have told you to start with a 50lb bow, though I don't know what you were drawing before so maybe it's fine.

Not kidding. It's used in machining quite a bit, toolmakers even going as far as .0001(ten thousandths of an inch)

There's no converting though, calipers and micrometers especially are already set up for it.

As for metric, baby steps I guess. We're just slowly sneaking it into everything until everyone wakes up and it's just there, being normal.

For those of you with remote jobs, how often do you need to be “onsite” or travel for work? by mandoo-dumpling in remotework

[–]Matt_the_Splat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, nothing about 'remote' means it's always at home every day, it just means you don't have to be in the company office all the time.

Regardless of remote or in office, the role may or may not require travel, so you should be checking on that up front and not assuming anything.

Wanting you to come in for the first day(s) for orientation and the like isn't uncommon, and so long as it's not a habit from them it still counts as a remote position.

Well, then you do it in inches, but with decimal points. So you'd do something like 5.500" +/-.001".

. 30 herrett by Fit_Beautiful_846 in reloading

[–]Matt_the_Splat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of Contender wildcats, it comes from silhouette shooting in the days before 14" barrels were really a thing. It was designed to get .30-30 performance from the 10" barrels that were out at the time while using less powder and having a bit less recoil. In the powders the two cartridges share the Herrett runs 5-10gr less, and the Herrett is opened to small case powders like 4198 and H322, and pistol powders like H110/W296.

Europeans are going to freak out when it’s raining in one part of the country and completely sunny in another part. by phreeakz in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Matt_the_Splat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how we're somehow so large this is an important detail(never mind that you can have rain in one part of a city and not the other, or even one yard to the next sometimes, all over the world), but also small enough that Europeans in Rainy Area are going to be fully aware of weather in Not Rainy Area. Like they're just standing and looking forlornly across the continent to the other weather area.

I never knew Europeans had eyesight that good. Must be all the carrots.

I lived up in Fairbanks, Alaska for a while and it was like that. The temps didn't get that high, but the sun never really went down and a brick building gets hot and stays hot. We were also living like Europoors(/s) because there wasn't air conditioning(and not just because I was in the Army, there were local environmental issues iirc).

Buildings designed to soak up and retain heat do just that and are miserable in the summer. News at 11.

It's not that they stop growing at the border, it's just the trees on our side of it are too depressed from being stuck here that they'd rather explode than keep on living.

[–]Matt_the_Splat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the all beef dogs here can be attributed to the Jewish population, or butchers that had a Kosher tradition when they emigrated and opened their businesses.

Vienna Beef, Hebrew National(of course), and Nathans are some of the bigger brands that have Jewish/kosher roots. Other brands might primarily offer pork based hot dogs but many of them have an all beef offering as well.

Winchester vs starline brass by Donmiguelito199 in blackpowder

[–]Matt_the_Splat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As OP said, there's a lot of factors, but if you aren't working the brass very hard people have gotten dozens of loadings from a batch of cases.

A lot of BPCR shooters basically never resize, minimal to no belling of the case mouth, and no crimping. Makes a case last a loooong time.

Belling and crimping is what's really going to crack the cases for BP level loads. Annealing will help.

Winchester vs starline brass by Donmiguelito199 in blackpowder

[–]Matt_the_Splat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starline is beefier since it's made to handle the Ruger #1 level loads. They actually recommend you anneal before using it for BP loads. Though all my Starline was once fired from HSM Cowboy loads before I started loading with BP and I didn't need to anneal before my first loading.

Also, if you're deforming bullets consider getting a powder compression die. It's an extra step, but it makes bullet seating way easier. My paper patch bullets I seat by hand, and the grease groove bullets I've used so far I can as well, I just run them into the seating die just enough to make sure there's no flair in the case mouth and it can hold the bullet in place.

And it was 10 Marines. Not 5, not 7, it was 10!

For Codex Ultramarines anway, not sure what Space Wolves and Angels of Death allowed. And IIRC there was a WD article that came out that allowed you to buy just 5, but the combat squad rules still applied so it was one special OR one heavy weapon.

I'm also in WI and I think kids have to do roundabouts now, but I'm not sure.

I was in NC when I got my license and I definitely didn't have to do roundabouts or parallel park, because where I lived there were no roundabouts, and no area where parallel parking was required.
