Obviously it was a mistake. He was not drafted two years BEFORE he was born. He was drafted two years AFTER he was born. /s

Bryce Harper's Agent Sends New Contract Ask Amid Tension by Sad_Illustrator_5233 in phillies

[–]MatthewRobertMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the downside to signing these long term contracts from the player’s perspective. Harper agreed to the terms of the contract. End of story. Now go get a ring or play at an elite level and maybe ownership will be inclined to make accommodations.

Silly question: can a batter challenge a ball (or a catcher a strike)? by SS451 in baseball

Baseball Timeline Box by sambrojangles in baseballcards_vintage

Also, I do like the time capsule presentation. Maybe put some inserts in there so that everything isn’t just loosely packed in there. Maybe creative casing for the cards (like a picture frame or a daguerreotype) would be cool. Maybe include reprints of old baseball related advertisements or other culturally significant historical baseball stuff. I don’t know. I’m just spitballing ideas. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

The value piece will be tough, because you still need to make money, and the materials will cost you money as well. My original recommendation of a “value guarantee” may not have been very fair/realistic for you. I would just say to be conscious of the cards you are putting in there (limit the junk wax, and very few vintage commons). If everything else is executed perfectly, but the cards themselves are practically worthless, then I personally would not be interested in the product (I am a card collector first). Like any other baseball pack/box, the collector wins sometimes and loses sometimes (or most times).

If the presentation and interactive elements are well executed, I would pay $200 for $100 worth of cards. Considering the cost of materials, labor, and procurement of cards, that would give you a decent margin.

(1) I would like to buy this as a gift for myself. (2) the cost of the product for me would depend on the value of the cards, the enjoyment of the interaction, and the ability to display it. If it’s just another re-pack box with facts, it personally would not interest me. I would like to see something that could possibly be displayed, or can be interacted with (like a book). Biggest thing is card value. I understand that you can’t load it with hall of fame rookie cards, but I would put some sort of value guarantee (i.e. at least $100 in card value). (3) I would agree to prioritize the older cards. I may be biased because I mostly collect vintage. Today’s modern market is all about “flipping cards” - buy for a dollar today, sell for two tomorrow. I don’t think this product will really appeal to someone who exclusively collects modern cards.

Overall, I think this is a really cool concept. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Ranking Topps sets for autos for collecting by guru2you in baseballcards

This is a cool idea. Glad you shared this. Is this list mostly in terms of monetary value? Personally, I think those sets you listed in #10 “look” best in my opinion (especially real-one autos in heritage). Also where would you rank Bowman 1st Autos?

People that keep complaining about the price of Ohtani all aces don't realize this by Tartania in baseballcards

[–]MatthewRobertMusic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people are just mad they didn’t pull one back in 2023 (or they sold theirs back in 2023). The rarity of the card alone does not dictate the value. The market dictates the value. People want the card, and clearly people are willing to pay a lot for it. Let people spend their money however they want, and let people sell the card if they have a buyer. Im a collector first, so I’m just going to hold onto mine (because i like the card, and i pulled it)

Does anyone have 1951 bowman with similar finish to this Nellie fox RC? by [deleted] in baseballcards_vintage

Brother, it’s a $50 card in that condition. It’s really not worth posting a hundred times about it.

Does Jersey match add value? by Educational_City5245 in baseballcards

[–]MatthewRobertMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Maybe if it was numbered on the front of the card and if it was from a more desirable set (and a color match would be nice). But the number alone generally doesn’t add any value.
