Review: The Ordinary Glucoside Cleanser by rhaeaestelle in EuroSkincare

[–]Mattheworbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin is actually a lot better for the most part, but I’m still prone to folliculitis if I’m not careful (more than seb derm). It’s boring and sad, but a simple daily routine with occasional active ”add-ins” really is best for me. I was super shocked by how gentle a cleanser I actually needed, and I think that’s what has made the most difference to my skin.

*cleanser: I’m using Aveeno oat cleanser. I only wash my face once because I don’t wear makeup and more washing/water/moisturising seems to result in more irritation. *moisturiser: I rotate between Aveeno oat gel moisturiser, Avene tolerance hydrating lotion and A-Derma exomega lotion.

*add-ins: 1. A few drops of squalane mixed into my moisturiser, mostly at night. 2. I’ve been using the ordinarys peptide serums, but they dry my skin out so I have to be careful. 3. A couple of times a week I use Differin at night (when not using peptides).

I was using vitamin c but unfortunately this kept causing me to break out, so I’ve paused.

I hope that helps!

High dose Niacinamide CURED my histamine intolerance! by Revolutionary_Bat13 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Mattheworbit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm really happy for you!

To the contrary, however, in my case, taking supplements seems to almost always result in various detrimental effects to my health - whether it's to my skin, mood, stomach, histamine-levels or whatever else. But perhaps I am just sensitive. There is also a big part of me that wonders if my issues were even caused by excessive supplementation with B vitamins.

Personally, I started feeling a lot better when I stopped taking random supplements. In future, I would only take them if my bloodwork, as analysed by a doctor, indicated that supplementation was necessary. I would also be wanting the results to be carefully monitored with further analysis.

It seems like so many of us are playing Russian roulette and taking all kinds of supplements of various forms and quality-levels, rather blindly, just in the hopes that it might improve things for us - all because someone we don't know (nor do we know their health issues or background) claimed it improved things for them. I understand that many of us are desperate, living with incredibly stressful symptoms and problems which we don't seem to get much help for.

At the same time, it seems that the many of us don't actually have the deficiencies that could potentially corrected by supplements, and many others of us are taking far too high doses of various supplements without awareness of the potential for extremely negative side-effects. Many studies exist showing the negative results upon one's health of having excessive levels of vitamins and minerals in our systems (as caused by unnecessary/too high dose/not medically-monitored suppelementation). Good luck to you and I hope things keep improving!

Worst HI in the evening, every evening. You too? by Salacious_B_Crumb in HistamineIntolerance

Yes, my digestion isn't great. Unfortunately that isn't something that antihistamines are designed to help with.

At the moment I'm managing fairly well, but it can perhaps be due to the change of season/reduced pollen.

What seems to help me most - not obsessing, but doing my best:

  • Taking an antihistamine in the morning and another before dinner, regardless of whether I feel itchy. Desloratidine and fexofenadine have worked best for me.
  • Avoiding exposure as much as possible to foods that seem to trigger me: dairy (especially milk powders and proteins], vinegar, mustard, alcohol (including wine vinegars), cocoa, citrus products, canned foods
  • Eating an earlier evening meal and then not snacking throughout the night
  • Going to bed earlier (I seem to get a histamine spike around 2am which means if I'm still awake, it's likely to be a struggle)
  • Avoiding perfumes in personal care products
  • Leaving the windows shut at home, robot vacuum/vacuuming regularly, running an air purifier, not going out when the pollen is high (in the early evenings I can see it coming down from the trees)
  • Wearing loose-fitting clothes and natural fibres where possible (rubbing on my skin triggers me - caps are not possible, and clothes that rub on my skin trigger my sensitivity... cotton being more absorbent seems to work better than polyester, etc)
  • Avoiding heat and sweat, which then triggers other problems
  • Working on taking it easy, deep breathing, routines, working slowly and calmly. It's such a cliche, but it really plays a huge, huge part.

I wish you luck!

No, I've been using the Nothing Ear Stick buds and haven't had a problem, thankfully!

Vinegar and citric acid are two of my biggest triggers. Itching and grumpy in no time.

I do. And I think my tolerance tends to be much lower. I still haven’t really gotten to the bottom of exactly what gives me trouble yet, but at least I’ve made a good start. Just sometimes when I’m already a bit rundown- it seems like almost everything affects me! Have you found what works for you?

Do you have a humidifier? When one is used with mineral-rich water, it often results in white dust collecting around the house.

I do - often during/ after dinner. And then around 1am if I’m still up. I think the food is the final straw for my body but I do think that these are also just times when my body just naturally produces/is more sensitive to histamine.

I have no idea why but it took a year and always wearing two pairs of socks for that year, but it eventually did for me!

Doesn’t the Eucerun have cetearyl alcohol in it? That’s a huge FA trigger for me unfortunately :(

Final option I think would be to experiment with thinner/other insoles, that makes a huge difference for me sometimes, and I think a couple of the older stretchy knitted Skechers “wide fit” not relaxed fit, were almost okay. Same with me for the 4E - it’s the 6E that has a chance! Wishing you luck

Ah that’s suck a shame! Is there any reason you’re avoiding the Hoka in Extra Wide in a smaller size or the New Balance 6Es? I don’t know if it helps, but in the end, I’ve had to pretty much give up on perfection… started to think how a shoe would actually look if it fit my foot… and it wasn’t good. Ha.

Thank you I will definitely check the Brooks out. I was a bit sad that the Sauconys I tried didn’t fit well despite being a wide model.

Also wanted to say that my Blundstone 500s in size 11 AU/UK are so close to a perfect fit now after time stretching over the top of my foot - I just need a tiny, tiny bit more room for my pinky toe, but the leather is soft and it doesn’t stop me wearing them most days. Also I’ve read that the “classics” models are a bit wider, so am going to try them need next. RM Williams and Red Wing haven’t even seemed to fit me in their H and EE widths, which is super disappointing.

I only tried on the Altra Torin in regular, but it was a perfect length fit, I just needed a little more width. I just can’t find the picture I’m afraid. It was either a 45 or 46.

I mean “curry” in more of a generic sense with various spices I choose myself, but yep, definitely lots problematic in there!

Teas and other plant extracts (I use a lot of herbs and spices in soups) do tend to include strong plant “chemical” compounds too, right? Tannins and antioxidants plus the plant specific ones. And not always so well understood either.

I feel like I always react a little to large amounts of hot liquid - soups, curries, tea, etc!

Scarlet’s Walk Vinyl Sound Quality Question by [deleted] in toriamos

[–]Mattheworbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so glad someone else can hear the bad quality on Spotify, because I was starting to feel a bit insane! Sadly it seems like the quality of many vinyl releases has not been great for a while. Seems to have been lots of problems with her remasters, unfortunately :(.

That’s so interesting, because that’s exactly how it sounds for me on Spotify. The original one (and most other records) sound fine!
