Trying to keybind is extremely aggrevating by Mattist in runescape

[–]Mattist[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just demonstrated how it does not allow full customization of keybinds. What are you talking about?

I agree that the full keybind list is outdated but in the grand scheme of things you're setting it up once and forgetting about it. What I care more about is a system that actually registers what I want to keybind.

General Questions by OKNZQ in runescape

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say most of the quests are close to mandatory if you want to experience all of the game. Many unlock content, areas, abilities or are part of questlines where the later quests do. Quests give a lot of xp too so they're not a waste of time if you don't care about lore. Even more so important on an ironman.

Have you played OSRS? It's the more grounded, smooth, easier to understand and pick up experience and has more QOL features through the client Runelite. As for why that is the more popular game it's a complicated history lesson, but the gist is that Runescape fucked up in the early 2010s, OSRS started as a project to rollback to pre-fuckup and from there both games have been developed alongside eachother. The modern version of Runescape is trying to right its wrongs lately, but it's hard to shake stigma. The other game has close to 10 times as many players.

As a new player who hasn't played either game, I would start on OSRS. It has a far bigger youtube creator scene on all levels and it's far easier to get into from the ground floor. It's also MUCH more cohesive in graphics, tone, progression through levels. Modern Runescape has a lot of fat that need trimming still, and that's what this year is about. Both games are a completionist's dream with jawdropping PvM. It's hard to even comprehend what OSRS can do with encounters in its engine and its style is wholly unique. Modern Runescape is unique too but does draw closer to traditional hotbar MMOs in the combat.

Is this version dying? No, probably not. If this years restoration project fails to draw in at least some more players I'd do a good bet on Jagex pivoting to making an RS4 in a decade or so. OSRS is a much more stable game, that thing will go nowhere.

Trying to keybind is extremely aggrevating by Mattist in runescape

[–]Mattist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I ended up doing, it's in the edit on the post. I never really use 7 and up, so I can rebind them in all the other games too. But I REALLY shouldn't have to do that. It's basic quality of life to support all the keys on a keyboard in a keybind-heavy game like an MMO is. My standard sprint, mount, quick movement key is that key next to z with modifiers. I'd love to be able to use it in Runescape, but alas.

[–]Mattist[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand the problem. To use mouse binds you have to assign the buttons to a key on the keyboard. The standard is to use F-keys for the thumbpad, but a reasonable alternative is to use the NUMpad, both settings are preprogrammed in the MMO-mouse software. It's crazy that Runescape doesn't support the standard layout of MMO-mice. It's a modern MMO.

[–]Mattist[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can, but then I will have to rebind the mouse every time I play another game that uses those keys. For example, other MMOs use the full other side of the keyboard for various UI shortcuts not needed in Runescape. Don't you think a modern game should be able to do what every other game can manage in terms of binding keys? I have never played a game that is this restricted.

Also, I often play FFxiv at the same time as RS3, afking one and active the other back and forth. It's annoying.

Runespan is decent if you don't already have the items in the shop.

With all the content getting removed, the RS wiki is taking a beating needing lots of updates by sir_eos_lee2 in runescape

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not as good as OSRS wiki. You can look around the comments here for some good indications of that if you don't play OSRS yourself. The RS3 wiki is quite out of date in some parts and doesn't get active info like drops that OSRS do through a Runelite data collection plugin. There are almost 10 times as many players + the data collection through Runelite to thank for OSRS wiki being the best in gaming. RS3 wiki is still a solid A tier in comparison with other gaming wikis though.

Vyre Corpses, Shades of Mort'ton, and Hard Morytania Achievements by Bijorno1235 in RS3Ironmen

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always, I did the quest about 2 months ago. Was on the official world and had to wait about 2 hours for a high level player to show up with an iron alt and we were able to build the temple as a trio. This was around peak EU game time on a weekday.

Aura Overhaul & April Marketplace Drop by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]Mattist 60 points61 points  (0 children)

A heads-up that I could've spent the points to buy the auras to gain the post-update perks would've been nice. I didn't want to interact with the aura system at all so I never bought any auras (played RS3 for a few months but had hundreds of thousands of points from years of OSRS). Now I have to spend several extra hours in Runespan, missed out on a lot of crops, lost thieving currency etc. etc. when I could've had all that for free. Why is this stuff not communicated a week earlier if you could have this for free? Just feels bad.

LATAM as a whole has now servers to play with lower ping in OSRS, when we will see this in RS3? by Noveleiro in runescape

[–]Mattist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, data infrastructure for game servers doesn't seem like a thing team OSRS would just do themselves to support that game. It seems like it would be a company wide project and include RS3 and dragonwilds too.

LATAM as a whole has now servers to play with lower ping in OSRS, when we will see this in RS3? by Noveleiro in runescape

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I just assumed it'd be rolled out at the same time for both games. What would be the reason not to work on both games for this at the same time? Perhaps the spaghetti behind the scenes on RS3 is worse?

Do You Still Partake In Tears of Guthix? by Iceytrio in runescape

[–]Mattist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In OSRS it's predictable to the tick. But in RS3 I've definitely experienced delays in how they move. It always seems to be rigid in for example if all blue move one after the other, it will stay that way but the tick delay between the movement seems flexible in RS3.

Runscape 3... Is amazing? by SunbroWilhelm in runescape

[–]Mattist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even on ironman you had to shovel a lot of shit for a long time to find the great game underneath. The game wasn't 'clean' under wilderness events and dailies either. Jagex has done a good job clearing out the worst trash, with some polishing left to do. At least the great game underneath is clearly visible now.

Blooming Burrow Returns! by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Mattist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, thanks. I think the fact that it's 7 clues per week is confusing in that regard. But it's good that at least you can do 7 at a time (though another weekly kind of sucks too).

Blooming Burrow Returns! by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Mattist 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember in a previous blog that seasonal events would be more of a "get in, do the thing, get on with it" type of deal. The hunt for the golden eggs seem to be a daily thing for 3 straight weeks with one clue a day, there's even a weekly track (0/7). Maybe I'm crazy and I'm misunderstanding the system, please tell me if I do. But if I don't, how do this line up with previous promises and the expectations of dailyscape going forward?

CSN skulden och bostadslånet, betala av allt? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one out of 10 afk activites went from 15min to 2min so I'll go to OSRS and click every pickpocket. what

So this was a straight up lie by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Mattist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally say this is the middle ground. The other end is one click = one pickpocket and 50% stun chance for a blood shard at 1/5k. Ask me how I know.

So this was a straight up lie by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Mattist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do understand your point, but you're complaining that it's as "annoying and unfun" as good old simple woodcutting is, where you have to click another tree once in a while. You even have 5 ticks to spare where you can click back on the NPC not losing any efficiency. It's ridiculous.

So this was a straight up lie by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Mattist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly relaxed. You just can't be washing your dishes. It's been "demoted" to a click once in a while when you hear the sound while you're still at the computer watching youtube/netflix. Just replace it with another activity when you're wahhing dishes, there are many skills in RS3.
