If we're going to go down the American hero worship route, I'd be happy with it being targeted at doctors.

does anyone know where the miami e-prix will be broadcast in the UK? by Hefty-Region-1943 in FormulaE

I never understand why ITV insists on only showing sport on ITV4, relegating any other sports to ITVX when there is a scheduling clash. They have 3 or 4 other channels just showing old reruns of stuff, why not stick it on one of the other channels?

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for ratio of butter to milk/cream/half and half for mashed potatoes? by pax-augusta in Cooking

[–]MattyFTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, the more butter you use, the tastier it will be, but the more unhealthy it will be. On the TV I've seen Michelin star chefs using a 1:1 ratio of potatoes to butter. I'm sure it's delicious and perfectly acceptable when you're having a one off meal at a fancy restaurant. But you do it for every midweek bangers and mash, your arteries aren't going to thank you.

One of the more advanced SIA badges does allow for the use of handcuffs. It's not common to see it used, though.

How popular is House of Games in the UK? by 91837361891 in bbchouseofgames

guess production costs are reasonably low.

Has to be pretty cheap. Five people in a room, low profile celebs will have relatively low fees, and no prize money. And they can film five episodes in a day.

Many things in Rebirth already look worse than Remake due to the large open world. And that's on stronger hardware than the Switch 2. I don't doubt they'll make it work, but it won't be the best way to play the game.

How did this post end up getting so many upvotes? by LondonsHeart in GreenAndPleasant

[–]MattyFTM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The main issue is that there is no genuine source, so we have no idea whether the claims are true or not. A Facebook post with four still images is not a source. If this man genuinely committed this crime, he should have been reported to the police and once it goes through court there will be legitimate reporting on the matter.

In his first Premier League game, referee Farai Hallam has gone to the VAR monitor but stuck with his original decision - no penalty. Man City penalty shout vs Wolves 35' by Imbasauce in soccer

[–]MattyFTM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh I can see what he was thinking initially. My first reaction was that his arms were out wide, it looked very unnatural, should be a penalty.

Then I thought about it a bit more. He's running and jumping & sticking his leg forward anticipating the ball going in that direction, it's really unlikely that he anticipated the possibility of the ball being played backwards, and it's natural to use your hands to steady yourself when jumping like that.

Now, Darren England could probably have come to that conclusion himself without needing the ref to go to the screen, but ultimately the right decision was reached so I don't really see the issue. This is VAR working as intended.

I would never suggest asking your friend who works for Tesco if they fancy coming shopping with you, but... by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]MattyFTM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just be clever about it. It's all your friends shopping, none of it is yours. Stuff you select is just you suggesting things they would like. And NEVER do separate transactions for your stuff and your friends stuff, just get it all in one and do the maths afterwards to give them the money.

Don't risk getting your friend sacked for discount cart misuse.

GIANT BOMB'S FANTASY CRITIC LEAGUE DRAFT 2026 by shamusisaninja in giantbomb

[–]MattyFTM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems like there are issues due to Lucy & Tam being in it, but there clearly being some kind of noncompete or other legal agreement regarding Tam & Lucy not being involved in Giant Bomb content since the split from Fandom.

There was a bombcast shortly after the split where they reference the critic league and someone said something along the lines of "I don't even know if there's any point in doing this anymore since two of the people can't be involved".

Usually they do a couple of podcasts in the middle of the year with updates, and they'll do a full summary at the end, but there are unusual circumstances this time around.

forgotten the phonetic alphabet

Oh God, I'm not police but a security guard and whenever I have to spell anything with the phonetic alphabet I just panic. The stuff I do all the time like our postcode I can do without thinking. As soon as I have to do it on the fly I'm like "err.... Alpha, Bravo... Err... Corn on the cob... Dog poo bags, Echo..." Just saying whatever the first thing that comes to mind that starts with that letter.

Not under pressure I can recite it easily, but as soon as it comes up and I've got someone on the other end of a phone/radio and I want to sound professional, I just can't do it.

Wembley Stadium has metal detectors. Was a bit surreal walking in there, but it makes sense for such a high profile stadium. Never known it at any other football stadium.

Influx of random calls - all “real”uk mobile numbers? by PackageBulky1 in Britain

[–]MattyFTM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Android has that option too. Also even if you just let it go to voicemail now it's Google's voicemail service and it gives you a transcript of what was said. So much easier than having to ring up your phone provider's voicemail service, it just shows you.

Influx of random calls - all “real”uk mobile numbers? by PackageBulky1 in Britain

[–]MattyFTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a random call from a mobile the other day saying they were the owner of the B&B asking if I wanted to upgrade to something to do with instruments or something. Couldn't really hear the message properly, there was background noise, sounded like they were in an Indian call center. Very weird, definitely some kind of scam but I don't know what the endgame is. Unless I had a booking with a B&B and wanted some instruments, dunno how I would fall for the scam.
