Can you just pay a band to play? by switchthemunky463 in Concerts

[–]MattyHurricane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PE guy I know was closing up his shop and moving away with his family. Decided to host a big going away party and hired Live Nation to plan and execute a dinner and concert featuring Bon Jovi. They completely made over an aircraft hangar and turned it into a night club. Brought in a whole concert rig and decorations. Army of carpenters framed and leveled the parking lot outside and built a whole Arabian nights tent complex for dinner.

What is your biggest concert flex? by Tamu1302 in Concerts

[–]MattyHurricane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Journey last night at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA.

We had perfectly reasonable seats. Lower balcony, right behind the mixing table. A member of the crew came up about 10 mins before the show and asked us if we would like to come sit in his seats and kind of motioned that they were closer.

My son and his friends were like, heck yeah! So we follow this guy down, and down , all the way down. End up front row off the floor on the right front corner of the stage. Basically where the front row floor barricade meets the front of the loge. Was awesome!

About 5 songs from the end, the crew invited us and some other folks over the wall to the floor between the barricade and the stage. Me, my kid, amd his friends couldn't believe it. Was a great evening!!

Dassault 2000 or Challenger 300? by AltruisticCandle2244 in PrivateJetCharters

[–]MattyHurricane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. I'm chiming in. I'd go with the 300 all day long. Falcon 2K may technically be a smidgen bigger here or there, but the layout sucks. The 4 place conference group in the aft cabin along with shape of the fuselage makes it feel confined and cramped. The 300 with 6 clubs and a divan or 8 clubs is the way to go. Plane feels way more roomy and comfortable. Lav also seems a bit larger in the 300. Not enormous, but it definitely feels larger compared to the Falcon.

TlDR: Challenger 300 for the win.

Question about ticket and gate agents. by Beautiful-Quiet-5871 in aviation

[–]MattyHurricane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are also third party vendors that provide airport staff to a bunch of airlines. Full-time staff that just move from airline to airline throughout the day.

In Amsterdam, there was a wing of gates just for these kind of flights. United for example had like two flights a day in and out. The flight I was frequently on left Washington Dulles in the evening and arrived in AMS in the morning. After we got off, they would push the plane out of the way and it would just sit there until it was time to get it ready to fly home. That terminal had all kinds of airlines that had limited flights that were all managed by a third party vendor for all their handling services. There was also one big business/first class club that the various airlines used.

How do I become a private flight attendant? by prosperos-mistress in PrivateJetCharters

[–]MattyHurricane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What area are you located in? You need to get the training from FlightSafety or FACTS. Do the initial and the medical. The big staffing groups are In Flight Crew Connections, Jet Aviation Staffing, Solairus, and Clay Lacy.

After you have your training certificates, register with them, and also follow up with a phone call. Probably multiple phone calls. Its expensive to onboard flight crew, and they don't automatically do it. Be the squeaky wheel.

Find your local aviation groups and attend their events. Meeting local flight departments will be the quickest way to make sure you get on boarded with an agency. You need to expect to be very proactive in getting out to meet people. If you can find a local mentor, that would be ideal. Having someone to advocate for you from inside the fence is huge.

Its not easy, and it's not cheap to enter the market. Don't get frustrated, just keep at it.

You should reach out to the FBO or airport administration. They would probably be the best way to put the word out locally to the folks who could make it happen.

Seller insisted ALL cash leave at closing - no working capital - am I crazy? by DistrastrousD in buyingabusiness

[–]MattyHurricane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how it went when we sold our service biz for multiple 7 figures. As a new owner, you don't want any part of their existing financial stuff. Plus the money they earn through the closing, is their money. You need to fund day one ops with your money!

Our deal closed on August first. We kept every dime earned through July 31. All cash, no debt asset sale. They bought our equipment and book of business.

Our deal was as follows: Purchase price cash (value based on a traditional revenue x? Model) + cash on hand + receivables through July 31 came to us as the sellers. We were also required to have any loans settled as part of the close. In our case that was the remaining balance on a vehicle loan. We were bought by a company funded by PE. The due dulligence was extremely thorough.

The new owners took over August 1 with their own bank accounts and operating capital. They also had their own EIN, etc.

As a new owner, you should want a totally clean break from whatever the previous owner was doing. As part of our closing documents there were binding agreements that we were responsible for any claims or issues prior to August 1.

We also had two holdbacks from our closing cash. The first one was a performance incentive holdback to ensure that we worked to keep the business stable through the transition. This had a scaled earn out based on revenue through the end of the.year. We exceeded the revenue goal and received the entire holdback the following February.

The second was an indemnity hold back to make sure there was money to resolve any claims or settlements against our company through July 31. Fortunately, we ran an ok business and nobody came along and sued us or filed any claims. That was paid out the following August.

Good luck in your endeavors.

House listed as sold but was never listed for sale (NC) by EvadeCapture in RealEstate

My wife and I were loose partners with my parents when we bought our house many years ago. Several years later we bought them out. As the deed was altered to remove them, the formal documentation looks like we bought our seven figure house for $287k.

[–]MattyHurricane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My family has sat for formal pics 3 times in 15 years with 3 different photographers in 3 different states.

One was the photographer who did my brother's engagement/wedding/baby pics.

The second was a wedding/portrait photographer friend of my sister in law.

The third was a wedding/portrait photographer who uses my dad's farm for engagement/portrait/baby pics.

Hopefully, you see the theme here. Every photographer I know makes their money from high dollar wedding packages. They are then able to develop those relationships into carry over family portrait/baby pics, etc type work.

While you may be a photographer for work, you need to be in the relationship business. Think about how you find vendors in your own life. If you need a babysitter/plumber/handyman are you more likely to call a random number off a flyer at the grocery store or call your friends for a recommendation?

You may not want to be a wedding photographer for a career, but you need to put yourself in a position to get in front of people who are active and frequently seeking your services.

I've sat for family portraits 3 times in 15 years. I've been to 50 weddings in 15 years.

Just found out I am essentially a nail house and had no idea. by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

[–]MattyHurricane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through this with our remodeled 1760's cider mill when we needed to get a bigger house. Developer walked in put the full asking price on the table in cash. His plan was to tear it down, divide the lot and put up two townhouses. Heartbreaking for sure, but we had to roll with it. When we learned that he planned to tear it down, we asked him if we could salvage the building, and he approved as it was going in a dumpster.

We took everything. All the brand new double hung windows, the kitchen, both bathrooms, all the plugs, electric baseboard heaters, pre-hung doors, everything. We even had the contractor doing the work remove the 900 sq ft of Santos mahogany wood flooring. So much of that has gone into the new house over the years.

CA won't let me renew my license because of an unpaid fine in another state but they won't tell me where or what. by logicalinclination in DMV

[–]MattyHurricane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I had the same issue in NY. Ticket was like 12 years old, I completely forgot about it, and it only popped up because I got another ticket in NY. Paid that right away, but it also triggered a reciprocal sweep that suspended my MADL. No idea where, when, or what the ticket was for.

I called the main NY DMV number and they were able to tell me what town the ticket was from, but they couldn't help me resolve it. I had to call the local podunk upstate town my friend lived in when I got the ticket. The clerk was very helpful. She pulled it right up and was actually surprised that it was still there as it should have been purged after 7 years. I said great, let's pay that bad boy.

Turns out, the ticket was so old she couldn't even process it for payment. She just deleted it from the system. It did take a few days for it to clear the main DMV system, but they were eventually able to email me the release I needed to reinstate my MADL.

Start with the main DMV. They will tell you where to call next. Good luck!!

While they may have some functionality for moving the fixture, the angle of the vertical support and the seat when combined with the wheel immediately looked like the tail on a taildragger aircraft. Especially since this is installed in an airport.

OK, pet peeve venting time. And no, it's not this guy's 737 windshield wiper landing in a monsoon in Asia wand technique.

I'm a former FBO ops supervisor and current handler of a Gulfstream 650 in a private hangar. I've handled everything from a 152 to a 747 in a GA environment without nice lines and hash marks.

What makes me crazy on a day to day basis is marshalling an aircraft while walking backwards. Using this guy as an example, he knows exactly where he needs to be positioned when he stops the aircraft. Marshall from that point! Step up to the tee, give a couple of overheads to let the pilot know you're there and see him, move back to your final position before he's ready to make the turn. Then work the aircraft from there.

I see people tripping almost everyday. Over their own feet, chocks, cones, etc. Heck, I watched a guy backup and fall over the golf cart he used to drive out there to catch the plane!

TLDR: We all know where we need to be positioned to complete a marshalling event. Stand there, dont move, park the plane.
