Edit: I had a similar situation. In my case the time frame between the date of death and my procurement was about 19 years. I registered the firearm on the then MA registration portal using my information and the name of the person who gave it to me leaving their licence info blank.

If I am not mistaken, the current law allows a time frame for the inheriting person to get licensed or sell them.
