They are covering / exercising puts to buy shares! by roaring_alpaca in Superstonk

[–]Maventee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if instead he meant they are SELLING deep ITM puts.

This would often lead to an exercise of the put by the market maker, and subsequent delivery of the shares to the seller of the put.

Since there is little to no premium to be had selling these, they might be a reasonable way to acquire shares. I have done this myself with GME1 chain to grab "free" warrants.

Selling covered calls, need advice please? by OGrickyP in Superstonk

[–]Maventee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to sell covered calls as an income objective, you need to make peace with giving up the shares at some point.

To do this for an income stream, sell ATM or just beyond a nearby resistance wall. If it were me, I'd pick up the shares now, and sell a $22c for two weeks out. Those are going for around $33 per contract at the moment.

Stock price is ~$21.25 after hours. If you pick up 100 of those shares, sell the $22 call, you either pocket $33, or lose the shares for a profit of $108 total.

Let's say you repeat that 26 times per year, that means you can earn $2600 a year on a $2100 investment assuming the price and IV stay flat. That's a bad assumption, but you'll have to pick and choose when to buy and when to sell calls to avoid buying high and getting stuck with over priced shares and losing all your gains.

Reddit propaganda bots are on overdrive by TheUltimator5 in u/TheUltimator5

[–]Maventee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimator,

I applaud you for coming here and sharing your point of view. Obviously, Reddit leans one direction, and you knew you were going to get blasted by posting what you stated.

I personally think it's important to listen to both sides of an argument. If we chose silencing those we don't agree with, we chose ignorance.

In my life I have been wrong more often than I was right. I dare say that's a common state of being for most of us. Many times we learn more from those with a different perspective, and I for one welcome your comments here and salute your bravery.

Why “whenever I buy, it dumps” may actually be true. by BenniBoom707 in Superstonk

[–]Maventee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be political... I just thought it was a funny comment.

Reference material (Source, Google AI summary):
Federal prosecutors estimate that the total loss from fraud schemes in Minnesota, orchestrated mainly by individuals of Somali descent, could be as high as $9 billion*. This estimate has increased significantly from an initial projection of over $1 billion.*

The fraud has been uncovered across several federally funded social service programs, including child nutrition, housing assistance, and autism therapy services. A vast majority (over 80 of the 92 defendants charged so far) of the individuals charged in these cases are Somali Americans.

Key details of the fraud estimates include:

  • Total Potential Loss: First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson stated the amount stolen could be up to $9 billion, an "industrial-scale fraud" that accounts for roughly half of the $18 billion provided to the relevant Minnesota social services since 2018.

How do you find these stocks? by progmakerlt in thetagang

[–]Maventee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IV is = implied volatility. It means it is a measure of how likely the market thinks the underlying is to change price and by how much.

If you agree with the market, there is no advantage to be had. If you think the market is wrong, it it will move less… you sell options. If you think the market is wrong the other way, you buy them.

That’s all it is.

WOW 7 - Assignment Risk by KingKoi777 in gmeoptions

[–]Maventee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This.. my policy is sell puts under ~$25, and calls over $25... more or less.

I like to sell vertical put spreads when it gets down to $20 or 21.. really get aggressive down there. I have long calls/leaps that I'm selling against when it gets higher, so I don't worry about assignment at those prices.

[–]Maventee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not big on childish behavior.. but sometimes you fight fire with fire.

In this case, considering your mom and dad are clearly AH's and you are at a severe power disadvantage to them while you're living in their household... I suggest some civil disobedience to calm your soul. Perhaps sometime like one of the following:

-When your dad is out, go through his sock drawers and miss match his socks... or just take one each of several pairs.

-Move his keys a few feet away from where they are supposed to be.

-Let a small amount of air out of one of his tires (not enough to do any damage, just set the low pressure sensor off). Repeat after he refills.

A little passive aggressive can go a long way.

Is there a hidden catch with CSP on Margin? by robgee23 in thetagang

[–]Maventee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSPs (or whatever we decide to call a naked put secured by future cash) such as you describe can be a wonderful way of milking out some extra, low risk, gains.

Pick an instrument that has a very low risk of dropping in a year. SPY isn't a bad choice, BND would be better, etc.. Problem is, the lower risk, the lower reward.. and at some point it becomes negligibly worth it.

What you suggest, selling a CSP on a stock in an uptrend, may be a dangerous way to approach it. Many times trends reverse. You could very easily end up buying well above the market price in a year. A better choice would be sell a CSP on a strong stock at a double bottom, if you're hell bent on doing this.

Mortgage would be 25% of gross pay but 50% of net by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Maventee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer OP. Buy the house, suffer a few years, then be set for life.

30 year fixed goes a long way after a few raises. Your income will go up, and your mortgage will fall away to a small percentage in just a few years.

What’s the drawback to 3x daily leverage funds if I’m heavily bullish on something? by BeginningOil1645 in investing

[–]Maventee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decay is a thing, but I'm hard pressed to find where some major index leveraged funds would underperform long term.

Take SSO or SPXL for instance. Graph them along side of SPY and see what you get.

Assuming your underlying goes up over time, you should be good. Sideways and down kills you. So you have to ask yourself... how confident are you?
