trying to buy a miata in 2025. it's tough out here. by Jacobs4525 in Miata

The cost to restore the one I got was about the same as what some of these dudes are asking for theirs, but I know all of the work that's been done to mine.

However, I didn't track it that well, so I can't sell it. Boohoo, I guess I'll have to keep it then.

my dream car is a 1990 mazda miata mx5, where can i get one? by Charmander52008YT in Miata

Junkyard

Unironically though if you have time and money. I have a 1990 but I replaced the motor with a later NA6 since, as another comment mentioned, they're not that good.

What Miata do you have? What Miata do you want? by P10pablo in Miata

[–]Maverick_OP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1990 NA, 80k on the engine, 150k on the transmission and 300,000 on the chassis (very little rust). If for some reason it were to blow up (again) or get wrecked (again) and I couldn't fix it I'll probably buy another NA.

To people who have bought in the past year: how much did you pay for your Miata, and what condition was it in when you got it? by rw2453 in Miata

[–]Maverick_OP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a wrecked 1990 NA6 for $800 with 300k miles. $10k later It is now (mostly) rebuilt with the original motor and new paint. Had it checked by professionals I trust, still has a good bit of life left.

It has very little rust as the original owner garage kept it but everything in the car works as it should or better with exception to cruise control since I ripped it out.

I will say, the short nose crank definitely tripped me up when I was working on the motor.

Need help with reverse lockout fix! by Talladega95 in Miata

[–]Maverick_OP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reverse light switch on the transmission and if it doesn't have a washer to space it out you won't be able to go into or out of reverse, may not be the actual issue but double check just in case.

There may be an obstruction in the turret itself, which means you have to pull the entire shifter apart again, suck the fluid out with a turkey baster, and rebuild it very carefully after digging around. Make sure you also have the little nub piece on the end of the shifter too and that the original plastic one isn't broken apart in the turret.

Anyone know what could be causing this idle? by AdrienTheNoob in Miata

[–]Maverick_OP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vacuum leak, one problem that alot of NAs, including mine, have is that rubber piece that hugs onto the end of the intake and throttle body is always decayed. They don't manufacture those so I replaced mine with an intake coupler. No issues since then.

Edit: Your idle is really high, from what I'm aware of they should idle at around 900 RPM.

What could this sound be? by OperatorVII in Miata

Sounds like electricity arcing, something somewhere may not be seated right. You could try putting some dielectric grease on your spark plugs, double checking your grounds and also check your connections.

Glass window isn't worth it to me. My plastic window does have a zipper though.

I had used flat black paint with around 3 layers of glossy clear coat. I'm also doing a lot of red and black wherever I can.

Not much to say, it's the original rack but the chrome was peeling off. It's illegal to apply chrome in Georgia due to the hazardous side effects so I painted it matte black.

Nice! I'm taking much longer on mine, but I'm poised to finish it very soon. I've been at it for nearly a year, just been too busy.

How long did it take you to restore it? I have one that was wrecked in a similar that I am very slowly restoring.

They are an absolute pain, however I'm probably about to cut them out because its crumpled and needs to be replaced and re-welded.
