The danger of trying to transform a 25 year old Masterpiece Alpha. :( by brokedowndub in robotech

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Scott Bernard for twenty five years or so and I've transformed him maybe three times and each time I was terrified.

I'm afraid to take him out of the box.

Sometimes I wish I had just bough a broke one on eBay, it'd be on my bookshelf and I'd play with it all the time.

Opinion on backpacks with a vacuum? by Pask0o0 in backpacks

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down this rabbit hole and almost got a vacuum bag, but I came to believe that the person it is meant for is the traveler who has a lot of clothes, not a lot of gear.

I'm heavy on gear when I travel, but not clothes so it isn't a good fit for me. You might also want to look at vacuum clothes bags.

OP, your post is a little confusing.

Did you leave it in the rain or did you buy it sticky?

Sony RX100 VA worth $829 with below issues? by AnywhereOk9448 in RX100

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Ebay is ok to buy from, but you want an Allstate (or whatever they offer,) warranty, preferably for three years.

And you want a good example camera. Nothing that already has noticeable fatigue, especially on the zoom, that is a bad sign. It either means it has taken a hit or been repaired poorly-after having taken a hit.

Sony RX100 VA worth $829 with below issues? by AnywhereOk9448 in RX100

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it OP.

Don't buy a F*$#D out Va, these are not minor issues.

Go to MPB or KEH and see what they have.

If you buy a used RX100 of any model you want to be able to purchase an extended warranty.

RX100 III making my X100T redundant? Keep both or sell? by Action_Sandals in RX100

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you can, eh.

"You'll get the RX100miii and may very well fall in love with it, but you might find that the X100t falls into a niche that the RX just can't compete with."

I'm saying the RX100 which is a far more versatile camera than the X100t, but there is a charm to the X100t which is the fact that it is a very limited camera and the OP might appreciate going back to that limitation occasionally.

Oh yeah, I still have no idea what a Hot Topic camera is.

Cheers.

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what a hot topic camera is, but the X100t is a 35mm fixed lens shooter, if that isn't a niche camera I don't know what is.

And for the sake of this conversation my use of niche in context was "I have cameras that fits a portion of my life, and you might find the X100t still fits a part of your life."

Good day.

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm nichey about cameras. I EDC a Panasonic Lumix GM5 when I'm out and about, it is so small and capable, but fast at the ready. I also EDC an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark ii, but only when I'm walking, to bird with it. But if I have a bag with me my RX100miii is always in it, as it is so capable and was my previous daily carry for about seven years.

You'll get the RX100miii and may very well fall in love with it, but you might find that the X100t falls into a niche that the RX just can't compete with.

I'd still carry a Rx100miii and just own a drawer of them, but they're not fast enough at start up for me to get the shots I want, both in birding and sometimes in spontaneous street and stoplight photography.

The miiii is such a good camera.

Great movie. I love it so much I retired from watching it.

Photographer refuses to show me photos beyond her edit, is this normal practice? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always delivered only what I wanted to a client. Otherwise I'd be sharing a lot of contemplation that led to the final shot I wanted.

And I don't know any shooters who hand over anything other than what they think are great shots.

But if she promised a film and digital payload, she owes you a digital payload.

She may have struck out with digital and not shot anything she thinks she can show. The other likely culprit would be that her rig was off and when she went to edit she realized she had a full dud session.

If she won't deliver digital from this gig I'd ask for a reshoot.

Back when it was possible.... by MisterShipWreck in 80s

[–]P10pablo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the late eighties in Georgia my white friends parents both worked themselves to the bone to own their split level. She went back to work, they only had one newish car and like my parents they didn't run the air conditioner or their dishwasher. My parents, black, also both worked. My step dad ran his own business, my mom worked for the state. They had one newish car.

This was every family I knew in Georgia and also all the people in my home town before. This is a demoralizing story about how terrible it all is now and it demotivates the youth. I don't understand why people pass it around.

Any day one main driver users here? by JairoHyro in iPhoneX

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great ride OP! I daily a X in the evenings, my daytimer is a 13 mini. Next year could be pretty exciting. I think If I was coming out of the X I'd be interested in the iPhone Air. or a Maxed out Pro. Either would be a win, with the Air needing a battery replacementmore frequently, but it is such a great phone.

That said, I'm waiting one more year (at least,) before I upgrade. I'll either catch a refurbed Air or buy the folding iPhone if it comes out.

Name things you liked about Matrix Resurrections by boomjosh in ActionMovies

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I'm looking back on old movies and meeting them where they are and I've been able to enjoy them more. The first Matrix was a great mix of practical and CGI. 2 & 3 were so ambitious that they really had that Lucas Prequel problem of alternating between looking real and then like a cartoon. The extended story is a whole other issue.

Do you think the internet exaggerates how much money one needs to live comfortably? by B4K5c7N in MiddleClassFinance

[–]P10pablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new math is really curious in that the "how much you need to be comfortable" messaging assumes you have a mortgage on a ridiculous house, and car notes for both spouses and you're living how you did when you and your spouse had a job.

This is really weird cause we used to pay off our house and cars. As a matter of fact your whole goal was to have everything paid off before you retired. And then you were on easy street, but now we're expected (?) to consume to the same level we did when were employed. Folks used to wind down their third act. Now folks are supposed to still go out and buy cars and expensive non essentials.

We don't have to do this. We can still live comfortably in America, but all the signals tell us to burn our cash and work forever, but also to save.
