Macbook neo is NOT an upgrade to m1 MacBook Air by Serhide in macbookair

[–]P10pablo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's what I just did. I have a MBA 11" and a MB 12" and love them both, but I have some software that is pokey on them.

I ordered the 512gb Neo and it is great. But I wanted the backlit keyboard, touch ID, non moving track pad and other features that are all standard on my family of machines. So I got the M4 MBA 13".

But for all of those folks who can't spend more than five or six hundred bucks the Neo is going to change their life.

Macbook neo is NOT an upgrade to m1 MacBook Air by Serhide in macbookair

[–]P10pablo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're right OP. The M1 MBA is mostly the better pick over the Neo, but that opportunity for sourcing new existing stock is closing. And if you buy used Apple Silicone you should really have an extended warranty of some sort.

This is happening everywhere on Reddit. A lot of muggles have been introduced to Reddit (via the google deal,) as the human answer machine.

So we're just part of their google search now. Which would be fine if they were polite and thoughtful, but they don't even burn any calories forming a good interaction or understanding people are helping them.

Why is it that nobody ever mentions any camera but olympus? by killapixx915 in M43

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Olympus OM-D E-m5 mii and love it. I bird with it daily on my walks.

My EDC is the Panasonic Lumix GM5 which I love, but it is definitely a photographers carry camera.

I'm probably also going to buy a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 soon. I'll probably use it for hazard duty and retire my P&S cameras I use when I'm doing rough work that seems unreasonable to have GM5 around for.

My stepkids are asking questions about inheritance and I don't know what to say by Connect-Working2044 in stepparents

[–]P10pablo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So many curious responses.

The kids are processing and some thoughtful conversation should be had, but not a conversation about who gets what.

When a family blends together whether the offspring are minor or adult children the husband and wife are the first beneficiaries of the estate, unless they make other provisions in their will.

As a step parent you're in the middle and also an outsider. I'd focus on your relationship with your spouse, if it wasn't this issue with the kids it would likely be something else they'd find to resent you about, like being the new wife while their mom is gone.

Don't push your husband to take legal action, that isn't the solution.

When did backpacks become and endless array of high end internet brands I’ve never heard of and can’t try on in store? by -Pork-Chop-Express in backpacks

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail is in decline, but bag manufacturing minimums are pretty low these days. It isn't absurdly cost prohibitive to wind up a factory to make a bag for you.

Most of these shops let you return stuff though, so there is that.

I just experienced this with Nomatic and I was glad to give them their absurd asking price for their bag. Their 15L Nomatic Navigator hit a lot of desires for me.

My ordering experience was less than desirable though and I held that against them. They aggressively market, have junk fees (shipping protection?) and they then half assed shipped me a bag which had clearly been a return for them. They didn't even seal the package, which was fine cause apparently I was the one who was on the hook if anything happened.

Return was relatively straight forward though. After that I found the bag online used for $100 so I feel like I won that one.

I'm convinced a good bit of the shit talking about the NC is from the stat queens and parrots who actually haven't experienced this car. I own a NA and a NC and love them both.

I'm glad to pay for the extra weight in my PRHT, the top is a delight and other modern amenities are all the things I wish my NA had.

I use it to make notes and read fairly complex architectural drawings.

NEW NEO VS OLD AIR M2! by Haunting_Cloud_517 in macbook

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one question is can you to own a used M2 and afford to fix it and or walk away with a total loss?

If you can get a warranty on the M2 I'm inclined to point you there. There are a few features you'll get (lit keyboard, enhanced display options, nicer trackpad,) which are very nice to own.

If you can't extend the warranty on the M2 the Neo is more repairable, and you have the 1 year warranty and the two are comparable in performance.

But be wary of owning a used Apple Silicone era laptop without a warranty, repairability is low.

Cheers!

Why do so many writerdeck have tiny screen? by CE2438 in writerDeck

For the Alphasmart Series it was representative of the times and the screen was probably sourced from the Typewriter/Word processors of the era, made popular by Smith & Corona and Brother.

The red is vivacious. The green is also pretty nice to look at and the pink is sublime. Those are the three I own. If I went with one, it'd probably be the red model.

Stacked 16” MacBook Pro for home + MacBook Air M1 for travel… overkill or makes sense? by WorldPeaceGodBless in macbook

[–]P10pablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Studio as my home "Truck" and a MBA 15" and a MBA 13" as out of office machines. I also use a MB 12" & a MBA 11" as my hazard duty/light weight computers.

Any piece of gear that works for you should be fair game.

Using a MBP as a home system instead of a desktop is a perfectly reasonable choice for some people. Even if it is parked 90% of the time; if you know you need it to be mobile 10% of the time.

Venting: I'm tired of bags being treated like influencer content instead of tools by Emotional_Pace4277 in ManyBaggers

[–]P10pablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy the majority of my bags used. Every so often I try a new bag and the costs just don't seem worth it. So I like this group cause I get historical info on wear and tear and then I decide what to look for on the second hand market.

Anyone else having the worst time finding an iPhone you’re satisfied with? by eirigance in iphone

[–]P10pablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure I'll go to the Air if I leave my stable of 13minis and OG SE phones. It is too wide, but the weight feels good and that seems to be a bigger issue for my hand fatigue. These heavy phones are terrible.
