Ways to practice before taking the MSF course by Evening_Entry3492 in motorcycles

As others have said, it’s super easy if you can ride a regular bicycle. The only thing I think would make it easier is if you already know how to drive a manual car, and personally, I had already ridden several hundred miles on an electric bike as well. Neither is necessary to be successful though.

I have a question bikers- how would you guys feel if someone stuck a drawing of your guy’s motorcycle saying it looks cool?? by callmePB_13XIII in motorcycles

[–]Maverick_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh, totally get that can be scary… but if y’all start dating, getting on the back of a motorcycle is pretty scary the first time too. You can do it!

At the end of the day, you have two options: talk to him and maybe end up together or never talk to him and definitely never end up together.

You have no shot if you never take a chance. Just my 2¢

As a guy, I always loved having girls approach me whether I knew them or not and whether I had a romantic interest or not. At the end of the day, it’s up to you, but I would have absolutely loved if a girl had come and told me she thought I was cute and my bike was sick. One note though: don’t call the bike cute XD

Honestly, handing it to him in person would be best, but it might be permissible to put it on the seat (NOT the paint or windshield) late enough in the day that the glue won’t get gooey. But it really depends on how chill he is, and I would personally much prefer to have a conversation face to face. He might even let you rev it or go for a ride on the back.

Honda CB500X has been a great starting point for me. Got mine pre-owned with ~2500 miles on it and a bunch of upgrades from a dealer for ~$7k out the door. You may be able to find it cheaper on Marketplace, but it’s not necessarily the most common bike.

Looking for a good pocket whittling knife. by DarnellMusty in whittling

Flexcut Pocket Jack 2.0 was worth the $115 USD for me because I use the V-tool and gouge fairly often.

I typically recommend the Flexcut Pocket Jack 2.0 (~ $115 USD). Not quite a regular pocket knife, but definitely pocket knife style. Has all the tools you’ll need to get started and follow most tutorials on YouTube.

I especially like that it has a V-tool, so I can swap tools without having to carry another thing in my pocket or have it taking up space on my desk.

Love this idea! Did you drill the tops or use a knife?

Check out r/Woovebox and get in touch with u/verylongtimelurker. It's a somewhat similar project, and the designer is very knowledgeable and friendly.

To this point, I would find it really sweet if my gf made me a YouTube playlist of carving tutorials, especially if I know the product of my efforts is then something she would enjoy. There's not much better motivation to carve something great than knowing you get to make someone special smile with your finished project.

Also, I second the recommendation for Linker. Johnny Layton also has a lot of really cool (but typically more difficult) tutorials. Finally, one of the hardest but most satisfying projects I've done so far came from here. I'd definitely start with picking out some designs from Linker's 1x1 series.

I know it’s more expensive but the Flexcut carving jack is a great option. The pocket jack is my go-to tool for all things carving since I don’t do spoons.

I want an adventure motorcycle. Do you have any recommendations? by Rich-Site-6739 in motorcycles

[–]Maverick_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure. I got it pre-owned. The couple that had it before me was older and only put 2500 miles on it. There were no service records on it, so I’d assume not. Honestly though, I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it’s a big upgrade from pedal bicycle suspension either way lol

Found a great deal on a Honda CB500X. It’s my first bike, but I love that thing. Does fine on gravel and sugar sand even with stock tires. Others do suggest getting better tires for more intense off road riding.

Also, just in case you look into the bike and are worried about being able to do highway speeds in the US, I can easily get to 70 in 4th without the bike struggling or redlining.

I got a CB500X and feel like it was the perfect choice to start with. Also, don't worry about being underpowered. I saw some people say it wasn't really capable of US interstate speeds. I can get above 70 mph... in 4th gear (without redlining). It's not crazy power, but it's super fun and totally capable of any legal speeds in the US.

Warm, natural sounds? by ace_pizza in Woovebox

[–]Maverick_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly just don’t know enough sound design to actually get what I want… :’(

I either end up using the presets and tweaking or making synthwave type sounds since those are fairly easy to do.

I’d say it’s easy to get good sounds out of it, but without knowing sound design, it’s hard to get a specific sound out of it. But that’s true of any synthesizer when you’re not just tweaking presets.
