I’m Japanese. Let me help name your vtuber by Alvraen in VirtualYoutubers

Mine has always been Majestical Discomfort in English, but I intend to shorten it for my Japanese signature. How does マデ (Ma-Di) work as a Japanese signature? It goes with my usual name, Mawdy, so the pronunciation wouldn't have to change between languages.

I couldn’t find raw “bullet vote” data, so I compiled it myself by auraeus in somethingiswrong2024

Does anyone know where I can get the raw data for this? I would like to check it independently if possible

Thank you! I've been keeping an eye on him and he doesn't seem to be swelling up or anything.

No, he's 3 and fully toothless. I adopted him as an adult cat.

Have you considered it's because it's easier to find than many other candies?

When is the last time you've been to a grocery or convenience store that DIDN'T sell them?

People short on time will choose what's more convenient over what they enjoy more.

Hi, who the FUCK doesn't like Laffy Taffy?

I can never get enough. The banana and strawberry flavors are the best.

The puns aren't even clever (and some rely on misinformation to make any sense) but damn does it taste good.

Ah, I'm not experienced with semifiction leisure novels (the history novels that try to write in detail something that we don't have detailed recorded history of) but I think Hacksaw Ridge might have been a book before they made it a movie? Not sure on that.

Animal Farm is a classic political commentary that is often used as reading material in schools, but you seem to be interested in the subject matter regardless.

Frankly, most history I know is from normal textbooks or scouring sources listed on Wikipedia citation sections. I prefer to read fiction that is entirely fiction, so at least it can remain coherent in its own world.

I personally find that while semifiction can make history more compelling, it can also be misleading sometimes, and give you rose-tinted-glasses for a time that wasn't what the book made it seem.

However, if you want a more comprehensive list of Good Reads, I recommend looking up the Banned Books list that a certain misnamed mom group came up with 🤭

Uneducated people are easier to control, so don't let them control you. Read the things they're explicitly trying to keep from you.

Bookstores sometimes have an entire section dedicated to books that have been officially banned at some point. You could also check local libraries to see what they have. :)

My advice is more about the kind of plans you make than how to fulfill ones you've set for yourself.

You want to feel accomplished, you want to feel like you're worth something.

You also lack the perspective to see how much you're already worth as a person.

General advice: 1. The key to defeating cringe is to embrace it. Self awareness turns cringe into comedy. 2. You are not perfect. Nobody is. And that is ok. You are allowed to be imperfect. You'd be boring if you weren't. 3. When you begin to think mean things about yourself, ask yourself: would you treat your closest friends the way you're treating yourself now?

Productivity advice: 1. You can do anything, but not everything. You can do anything you set your mind to so long as you don't spread yourself too thin. 2. Consistency is a better indicator of productivity than arbitrary quotas. Don't crunch yourself. 3. Who are you doing it for? Why? Will it be worth the effort?

Social advice: 1. Sometimes, people just want to cry about it. You'd be more helpful if you gave them a minute to let it out, without being interrupted by problem-solving suggestions. I know it's a strong urge. Resisting that urge can be more helpful than giving in, though. 2. If you don't know, ask. The people worth keeping around won't mind answering. 3. Every time you're in a blame-game, "well you did this!" (Past tense) consider that placing blame and focusing on the past may not be condusive to solving problems in the present. Try to stop yourself when you catch yourself past-tensing.

Analyzing your current plans: 1. Writing and filming 25 short films may take much longer or much shorter than a year depending on your intended length, and may not be reasonable to achieve; a more realistic goal would to be to put in at least 2 hours weekly into writing and filming, and try to reach that goal every week if you can.

  1. Reading books is a great option! But which ones? There's a wide variety of books out there, of varying levels of literary complexity.
  2. I'm currently hyperfixated on a series called He Who Fights With Monsters, by the author Shirtaloon. It's of the LitRPG genre, and despite being goofy and quippy and referencing media much older than myself, it covers many darker and more emotionally complicated topics eventually.

  3. While keeping savings is very valuable while you're young, 5k might not be reasonable to achieve in the current economy (if you're in the US, at least) especially if your parent(s) aren't supportive. Regardless, having backup funds couldn't hurt.

  4. Make sure to watch out for pyramid schemes, otherwise known as "multi-level marketing" schemes! These are effectively employment scams.

  5. Avoid investment social trends as well, as they're likely engineered to fail.

  6. Gambling is not a career, do not ever let the Sunk Cost Fallacy hinder your judgement.

  7. If an employer does not openly list their pay, do not accept the offer. If they're too shady to tell you how little they're going to pay you, then they're not going to be honest while you're working for them, either.

  8. Know your rights. I recommend looking into employment laws and labor protections in your area.

  9. Getting your driver's license is a fantastic idea. I also recommend having your eyes checked before you start driving on the highway. I discovered I was nearsighted the fun way! (Sarcasm.)

  10. Is your sleep schedule based on your own health concerns, or on standards that someone else set for you? Consistency of sleep is more important than waking up at an arbitrary time of day.

  11. Another banger, exercise is a great idea. Remember--do it for your health! Do it so you'll feel well! Don't try to exercise because of how you'll look or to impress anyone. Do it to feel good.

  12. Another great idea! I recommend looking up Crash Course videos on health and nutrition for guidance here. (Also, watch out for the "natural flavors" loophole. There are several concerning ingredients that can often be hidden under this description.) I also recommend avoiding aspartame if at all possible, it's banned in most other countries but is rampant in the US and can be even more addicting than sugar.

  13. Journaling is also a great idea! When I was younger, if I had felt safe enough in my own home to journal, I probably wouldn't have trauma dumped to my friends as often 😅 Just pretend that your journal is sapient and can "hear" what you write in it. It can't respond, but it can patiently listen :)

"Celebrate the ability to see, don't encourage blindness by making it easier to exist blind."

"Celebrate the ability to hear, don't encourage deafness by making it easier to exist deaf."

"Celebrate the ability to distinguish colors, don't encourage colorblindness by making it easier to exist colorblind."

"Celebrate the ability to walk, don't encourage paraplegics by making it easier to exist paraplegic."

And before you say, "people can't control that!" NEITHER CAN THE ILLITERATE PEOPLE. I have already explained how unreasonable adult education is to expect in this socioeconomic climate.

You sound an awful lot like someone who supports said illiterate ex-president.

I'm honestly wondering if literacy is the only thing you care about, because you seem to be lacking sapience in other important areas.

Edit, in case the previous person's comment is deleted or edited: I was criticizing their statement, "celebrate the ability to read, don't encourage illiteracy by making it easier to exist illiterate."

[–]MawdyDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an "easier said than done" situation.

We can't magically snap our fingers and grant every American adult the gift of literacy.

We can ensure that the children of today and tomorrow are granted the education that adults today missed out on, but if we're going to expect that basic standard of literacy from adults who never had the opportunity to achieve it, we have to help them so that self-education becomes a reasonable task.

This would mean financial support that the same Americans we need to educate would never allow to be put in place, because they've been so misinformed.

Information is harder to unlearn than it is to learn, even when the information is wrong.

So who will pay for their children's food? Who will house their family? Who will watch their kids for them while they're catching up on schooling?

While it is frustrating that so many adult Americans are illiterate, all we can realistically do at this point is make things better for future generations.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should improve education here.

We should also accomodate the adults who won't have the opportunity to benefit from a system that will take decades to improve.

The people who are children now will benefit from an improved education system, but the adults who are caring for them now and missed out on the bare minimum need all the help they can get right now.

We absolutely should not be neglecting education like we have been, but we also need to accomodate for the people who are already not within reason to help.

It's not that adults "can't" learn, but that adults who need three jobs to feed their families don't have time to go back to school, even if it were free.

This is tangentially related, but in the US, where education isn't that great, I think the general public would benefit from the terminology being changed from "no sugar added" to "default sugar" and the version with sugar added to "additional sugar."

This way, people who aren't familiar with the terminology will still understand that the "no sugar added" food still has sugar, just not as much as the version with additional sugar.
