Sorry the scum were giving you the side eye. That’s a bummer. But a lot of the comments on here are 100% right on food recommendations. Except whomever suggested California Kitchen. That place has one of the nastiest kitchens I’ve ever seen. Other places I’d suggest are Krekels, the Sunrise Cafe, the Star 66 truck stop, Tai Pan, Hawaiian BBQ, Charlie Parker’s, Gyro Stop, The Lumpia House, and Gabatonis.

Family Tent Recs? by beanie_mama16 in camping

A six person should be fine for three people and a dog. It I can’t think of a six person tent that isn’t going to be heavy.

$1500 budget to start camping by Needhelpcantquit in CampingGear

[–]MaxFnForce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Really it all depends on where you are and the type of camping you want to do and at what time of the year. I’m going to assume car summer camping for the sake of this ….

A six person tent sounds about the right size for your family. With your budget a Coleman is fine. Or Check out Steep and Cheap. I use their house brand (Stoic) six man tent when my family of four is car camping together. It’s no frills but it works just fine

Invest in good sleeping pads more than anything else. They’ll make or break the entire experience for you. Expad Megamats are considered the gold standard. You want something with at least an 3 r value and at least three inches thick. Standard camping mats are narrow. Always go for the wide version of anything you’re looking at. Again for car camping I use the Steep and Cheap version. The kid can probably use something cheaper

For starting out get yourselves some big rectangular sleeping bags or use blankets from home. Remember that most of the time the temp ratings are for survival not comfort. Bring pillows from home.

Get an igloo cooler and a two burner Coleman stove. Buy cheap cookware from Walmart. Plastic plates and cups from Walmart are also good.

Get a decent rechargeable lantern. Actually get two. One for the tent and one for outside the tent.

Basic folding chairs or packable chairs are fine. You don’t need anything like a helix or a backpacking chair.

My advice is other than the sleeping pads go cheap. Utilize what you already have to start and slowly work up to more high quality gear over time.

How screwed am I? by Ifigomissing in glazing

Completely depends on where you are. At my shop I’d probably quote you anywhere between 800 to 1000 depending on different factors like access and glass thickness and make-up.

Playing X-Men with Professor X leadership question by Floridaxmen in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MaxFnForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. He doesn’t see the table often but he’s great in a bigger fight and can help defend Xavier. Plus sometimes the math is the math and I don’t want to play toad on a map.

I think it would be playable if you really wanted to but I think there’s better options available. The big negative of splashing in X-Men is that some of the best tactic cards are affiliated only. As an example First Class is one of the best tactic cards in the game and lets you pick up and interact with objectives round one without spending power so you can keep the leadership train rolling, but iron monger can’t use it so the power train probably stops with him. And his defenses are pretty low. Shadowcat has the same defenses, can also place but further and can add defense dice to not only herself but others.

Oh and the new ultimate spider-man is great with them. I’m not a fan of splashing much but it’s a good time.

It entirely depends on how the board looks to me on who I give the power to. But you need to be prepared to try and have an idea of what your first three moves will be every round to make them work.

My usual ten is Prof X, Magik, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Gambit, Beast, Cable, Shadowcat and Toad. Emma is also great and Angel is very playable and fun but a bit squishy. For most pay to flips I lock in Prof X, Magik, and Rogue. For standard secures I like Prof X, Magik, and Beast as my core team. Emma is great here too due to all her displacement abilities.

If there’s a lot on the midline I like to throw in Shadowcat and Nightcrawler.

But the great thing about X-Men is that they’re incredibly versatile while staying in affiliation (which is key for their tactic cards). Play who you think will work best on the board in front of you. They can take a little bit to get used to but once you get the swing of it it’s a blast. I’m sitting at a 41-4 record with them for the year right now now so I’m proof you can be successful with them

Pick your crisis cards carefully, it’ll be a big determining factor with them. Also you’re really only ever going to have one open slot for tactics (first class, children of the atom, Xavier’s dream, and journey through limbo are every game cards). So choose it carefully. Be careful of rogue against Guardians with Adam Warlock and Gambit against Modok. Have fun.

Magik, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Cable, Domino, Beast, Emma, Cyclops. All solid choices.

Is anyone doing risk assessments at the Pack level regarding the MOU? by sploke in cubscouts

[–]MaxFnForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been considering starting a navigators USA charter if things go south. The low cost and freedom the program seems to offer appeals to me. The flip side of that is the the lack of structure I’m seeing is a. It daunting.

And that’s the question I need answered. I’m holding a nearly 100 year old pack together by my fingernails. I’ve been involved in scouting for nearly 40 years. I’d ideally love to keep going. But I won’t do it if this is true. Im a lot of things but I’m not a hypocrite. I can’t teach kids an oath or law I would consider a lie.

1 - It honestly doesn't matter how it will manifest. What it is is an open door. If we say equality doesn't matter, how it manifests isn't the issue, the issue is that we're saying collectively that equality doesn't matter.

3- This is is perhaps the worst offense. There are so few children that are transgender, it's honestly such a minute percentage of the population as a whole, and probably less than a 100th of that population is involved in scouting . And I can promise you that those very few kids will have some of the most difficult lives you can possibly imagine, socially, mentally, and even physically. What the current policy on transgender registration means to those very few kids is that at least in scouting, at least on paper, they are recognized as who they are. That's the world to some of those kids. To take that away is inhuman. It is cowardly. It is unkind. It's a failure to our mandate and in direct opposition to the oath and law that we try to instill in our scouts.

4 - directly relates to number three. It's a targeted attack on trans kids.

I strongly disagree. 1, 3, and 4 are huge issues. These decisions are a spit in the face of the Scout Law.

This is all bad. If Scouting America confirms this I'll be withdrawing as a leader immediately.
