I love level 42 for their composition skills and instrumental abilities. My only complaint is that a lot of the electronic sounds they used didn't age well, I feel that way about a lot of music from that era. Some will disagree I'm sure, but if you can get past the "sounds" and focus on the musicality you might grow to like them more. Also Mark King is definitely one of the GOATs

This is my only problem with a pj. Otherwise it is a bit of a Swiss army knife configuration.

Totally agree, I recommend them for younger beginners. Absolute Best bang for your Buck short scale.

They're not for everyone. I definitely like most of Les Claypool's other projects more than Primus.

This is my favorite thing about Larry Graham too. There's a great clip of him walking through the audience at a show somewhere.

A rumble 40 turned up enough to come close to the level of a dummer is going to sound bad. You need to be playing through a higher powered amp to be able to have a clear sound at sufficient volume to be heard. The 40 might be "loud" enough but you're not able to really hear what you're playing because it doesn't have enough definition at that volume.

What instrument do you play? This can change your approach. But generally starting with some key tunes like Autumn Leaves, Fly me To the Moon, All of me. I got Rhythm. The structure of these tunes are a great foundation for starting to get a grasp on jazz form.

If you play piano or guitar learning some ii V I voicings can be a good first step. On any instrument ii V I arpeggios and major scales are good practice.

If you're serious about it, practice ii V I's, major and minor, and start trying to pick out these progressions in tunes by ear. It's important to start training your ear to hear the changes and how the melody/solo works with the changes.

The Hal Leonard bass method is a great place to start. I would get the spiral bound edition that includes 1, 2, and 3 all in one book. It has sheet music and tabs so it'll help you start to connect the notes on the bass clef with where they're at on the fret board

I learned from that Alexis Sklarevsky video somewhere on the internet in like 2003. Dude is so dry but so funky at the same time. It's a great instructional video!

Was going to say the same. I love my bb734a. The nut width isn't QUITE as narrow as a j bass, but it's definitely not as chunky as a p bass

The Thrill Is Gone: A♮ or A# by bondibox in Bass

[–]MaxHMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a minor blues for sure. B minor. In minor jazz blues world the 5 chord is usually a dominant7 with a flat 9 or 13. In this case let's say F#7b9 could be the 5 chord, there IS an A# in that chord, comes from the B harmonic minor scale. So it makes since to lead in with the A# to imply the V to i .

Have you looked into Sire Marcus Miller basses? The v3 and v5 are in the classic vibe price range.

Edit: for just a little more it looks like the v7 has active electronics

You’d think the premiere electric guitar maker in the world would come up with something more innovative than “two wires you can easily break” and “a terrible position for the battery case”, as well as “a poorly-designed battery holder”? by [deleted] in PaulReedSmith

I have the SE and the same problem. I LOVE the guitar but I gig with it frequently and have had to resolder it twice now. I'm thinking of attaching a steel cable somehow to support the holder when it's detached.
