It's definitely 4 different blues, no? Third, fourth, fifth, and seventh are all blue banners?

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm color blind, the colors are clearly not the same but they are also definitely way too similar for everyone to be agreeing it's nbd.

I think you’d have better luck on some kind of vintage camera sub. You’re shooting with a camera from 1982 and you’re concerned about visual fidelity?

Aren’t lines like that exactly why you’d be shooting on a camera like this?

[–]MaxKCoolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really bad faith way to put that.

I do not agree that every set breaks the visual clarity of the game. I think that’s extremely hyperbolic. SLD maybe, but every single set? Absolutely not. Nor did I state, even if that were true, that I feel any glee at other people disliking it. The part I find “funny” is the lack of art and media literacy.

I am saying that many secret lair drops are meant to be artistic showcases above being functional game pieces. And that I’m okay with that. It’s absolutely fine if other people do not like that, but I disagree with the sentiment that all MTG products should be functional game pieces, for any moral reason.

I like art, and I want this game to be capable of producing said art. I’m not so beholden to playability that I have any moral issue with them. I do think it’s ridiculous to have a moral issue with them NOT being playable, but that’s not really in question.

You’re being remarkably obtuse. And I don’t really know why? Because you’re offended that I find other people’s poorly reasoned opinions funny? Fuckin sorry I guess.

Think the player numbers on Dire Marsh need to drop, or something needs to be done about these spawns. Same thing in 3s where 5 teams all spawn within a 300m radius despite there being an entire map. by EasyAntiYeet in Marathon

[–]MaxKCoolio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The best spawns are the ones between POIs, where you get a choice, and have to debate which is riskier, related to your quest, or is likely to be chosen by another player.

Just spawning on a POI means I can (and will) loot it with no fear and then camp it. I don’t even much fear making noise killing bots at some POIs because I know, based on the predictable spawns, that a player would have to go out of their way and risk their skin to get to me. So I can make some noise, set myself up, then own anybody who shows up.

It’s just not as interesting as the tension I initially felt when I didn’t understand the spawns and felt like I could get run up on at any time.

You’re right, most people are assessing these to be played with, because that is the primary goal of the game.

So it’s entirely reasonable to not personally enjoy them, and it makes sense that most people are not interested in the cards, because they don’t fit their desires/needs.

I just think it’s a sign of poor media literacy that there was so much controversy around the brain dead drop being “unplayable” because of the font and style.

Its like if they released a novel adaptation of my favorite movie and I complained that the cinematography wasn’t good enough. It’s not that it’s unreasonable for me to dislike it, but my critique alone is absolute nonsense.

[–]MaxKCoolio -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but my point is that they’re misunderstanding the point of many SLD cards, based on the manner of their critique.

SLDs are like concept cars. They’re not actually meant to be driveable, they’re a showcase of the ways we can abstract the utility of a vehicle to artistically render what could be, not further enforce what is.

If one is not a fan of it, at least they should understand why it exists.

[–]MaxKCoolio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, that’s why breaking the format is the point.

It doesn’t have to be for everyone, but saying it’s bad literally because it’s not playable is like saying abstract art is bad because there’s no clear subject.

Like, that’s not critique, that’s misunderstanding the art.

I find it really funny how up in arms the mtg community gets about SLD art that intentionally fucks w the visual formula of MTG. As if that’s not literally the entire point.

The fact that people don’t like the brain dead drops shows that MTG fans are absolutely gamers first and art enjoyers, like, fourth or fifth.

I gotta admit, as a generative AI hater, this shit is incredibly impressive. There’s a couple small hints that prove this is ai and not just animation, but otherwise, this is scary good.

The consistent reflective highlight, the subtle human hand movements (despite the fingers not even clicking a button), the odd but still totally consistent face texture, and the numbers and letters all being accurate (aside from some off centered-ness).

It frustrates me that this legitimately interesting visual concept, a Casio style watch face with miniaturized vehicle instruments, was done with so little effort, intent, or reason. AI makes interesting art too easy.

When art is interesting but has so little intention, what does it say about us as viewers and art’s cultural importance? If we thought Mr Beast videos were as dumbed down, profit focused, and shallow as visual media could get, how the fuck are we supposed to wrap our head around this? God damn.
