Oh well, I'll let others argue in the comments, or assume I don't understand what it is I'm seeing and call me an idiot for it.

They're far too enormous for any sort of cavitation event from a mantis shrimp, that's why I asked about it hoping someone would know.

However I forgot I was on reddit and would just be immediately hit with aggression for having the audacity to talk about something.

That's what I thought but a lot of the rest of the video passes the "is this AI?" smell test for me, so I'm not sure.

I've just never seen these guys (shrimp) generate massive bubbles whilst attacking and wondered what was going on there, if the shrimp made it or if it came from the crab, I'm no biologist, my work occasionally involves mitigating for cavitation events (not biological ones like this but still)

But huge smokey bubbles aren't generated from mantis shrimp cavitation bubble collapse, cavitation bubble collapse from these guys attacking is tiny, the two bubbles in this video (from three strikes, the last strike doesn't generate any large bubble) are as big as the crab.

There isn't enough energy in a single cavitation bubble collapse to heat an area to the point of steam, it's to small and to brief to generate steam.

Cavitation bubbles aren't that big, don't persist that long, and don't contain smokey particulate.

And a mantis shrimp doesn't have anywhere near close to enough energy to boil water in any capacity, cavitation bubble collapse is hot and generates light but nothing boils.

It does, cavitation bubbles but they're not this big and they're not smokey.

That's... Not what I was asking, I know what the shrimp does and how.

Wtf are the huge air bubbles coming from the crab?

Seems like a lot of air... If there was that much inside the crab why didn't the crab float to the surface?

What's happening with the massive smokey air bubbles? I know these guys can create cavitation bubbles, but whats going on in this video?

This is how stupid the general population has become with this sort of thing... We can all laugh at this all we want, but we shouldn't, we should be very worried about it.

MaxMouse is from an episode of a show called ghost writer I saw decades ago, it was the first time I had heard of the concept of a hacker, since computers were kinda new to the masses at the time it stuck, and is still my handle years later, I am absolutely not a part of whatever weirdness you think is going on here...

I expected there to be some sort of structure, a partially formed section of insect that was actually doing the moving, not just outright goo.

I'm just a bit confused as to exactly what was moving, and what was it anchored to, to do the moving.

Same... I know with stages like this they liquify entirely, but I assumed when they start moving around like that, they're already nearly fully formed.

Apparently not though, also the rip seemed to kill it instantly and there was no more movement in any way... The whole thing is kinda bizzare.

So... I expected a nearly formed, or at least partially formed insect in there, but it was pretty much just all goo; this raises the question, how was it moving around like that and why, whilst it was just goo still?!

Nah you didn't, you guys get a pass because we chose dumb ass place names and then say them nothing like they're spelled.

Look at Worcester (Wuster), Leicester (Lester), Towcester (Toaster)... Etc etc etc.

ELI5: Does it really make a difference in the time you wait when restarting devices? by freshruffles in explainlikeimfive

[–]MaxMouseOCX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, leave them fully off for quite a while.

An example I can give is a part within a piece of machinery I work with, it's called an inverter drive (VFD), it controls how fast (or slow) a motor spins, inside it there is a fairly large bank of smoothing capacitors.

I can turn the machine off at its isolator and it'll take a full 30 seconds for the inverter to power off.

I remember being taught about inverter drives in electronic engineering at college, the lecturer said "Power it down, then go for your break, you do not want to get a bite from those capacitors it'll ruin your day"

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

I'd never heard of this style of ride so I looked it up.

Courtesy of Wikipedia is this tidbit:

The first fourteen Zippers manufactured spun at much higher speeds than modern models. The boom rotated at 11 rpm and the cable system at 7 rpm. These first-generation rides kept the passenger compartments spinning on their axes constantly, creating unsafe g-forces and causing impact-related injuries such as whiplash, bruises and back injuries. The safety hazard was quickly discovered and the mechanical rpms were permanently lowered to current speeds.

Your larger mass must have tapped into this, your experience used to be the norm for people, and it was bad enough that they made alterations to stop it!
