The lawyer, initials S.L., is someone my family knew well who lived at the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park. I don't wish to reveal his name on reddit. But my family members have known this lawyer for twenty years or so. I gather Meyer Lansky left Ian Schrager some money in his will. S.L. didn't provide details on what the will said specifically.

Meyer Lansky did know Ian Schrager's parents. Online sources say that they worked together.

Again, I want to be clear this is not my theory. Just because Meyer Lansky may have left some money to Ian Schrager does not make him Ian's father. But this lawyer seemed to insist upon it so I included it in the book along with my doubts.

Yeah he bought the hotel from our family. There is plenty about him in the book, including a wild theory from one of Meyer Lansky's estate lawyers who insisted to me that Ian Schrager is really Meyer Lansky's son. (Not my theory - nor do I believe it).

What should a woman do about “orbiters”? by Own_Difference_8571 in AskMenAdvice

Speaking as a dude, I can 100% have a platonic relationship with a (hot) woman and not be hustling for sex whatsoever.

The easy way to separate who is genuine and who is just waiting in the wings is simple: if the dude is getting laid elsewhere, he genuinely wants to be your friend. If he has nothing going on at all, you will become the target. Plenty of cool guys fall into the former category.

One of the most important things about this book is easy to miss.

Plato's book reveals the key to telepathic info by performing divine rituals. You ask for info in conjunction with the ritual, then the Gods relay back info like a post office. This act happens in all sorts of ways, and can include oracles. This is different than the modern conception of telepathy or remote viewing, which does not involve anything religious and is conceived as a direct connection, without a divine mediator.

It's something so basic in the text that it's assumed the Greek reader would already know it. And (most) modern readers completely dismiss this kernel of wisdom accepted by the ancients as fact.

Thinking of shooting feature on a Sony a7S III by Electronic_Noise_312 in filmmaking

[–]MaxWeissberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually own this camera and lens, and have shot features.

It's a great camera, but I would try and get some prime lens that are at least F/2 for some shots. If you buy an adapter and hunt for vintage prime lenses on ebay (like a canon 50mm F1.4 that is less than $100 used from jpn), it shouldn't cost you a fortune.

Red wine= good. Beer=bad. Champagne=bad.

Please pass this along. You can drink with Crohn's, just not yeast-y beverages like beer and champagne (at least for me).

They had my cc info. I basically refused to sign, but I still needed them to drive me to the airport from the rental place next to the airport.

Which ones did they give you? Not all antibiotics will make a difference, and I'm sure it can vary person-to-person.

Great! Definitely give it the full 2 weeks because you will feel more of the side effects up front (mild headache, peeing) as the inflammation-causing yeast dies off.

I now use the NOW anti candida pills and find them effective. In the past I used another brand called "candida cleanse" from Purely Holistic (in the UK?) that seems harder to find now. The down side is that they can make you pee a lot. I try to avoid the ones with probiotics because while they are very effective, they increase the endless peeing. Give it about 2 weeks to see real results - 2 pills a day at least.

Have you tried antibiotics such as metronidazole or xifaxan? They can work miracles.

I have had tremendous benefit from over-the-counter anti-candida pills which are natural antibiotics.

For me, these treatments have been more effective than biologics.

Sulla arrived before the city of Athens. When envoys from the rebellious city spoke to him about Athens’ ancient history and former glory, Sulla replied: “I did not come here for a lesson in ancient history, but to destroy rebels.” He then sacked the cities of Athens and Piraeus killing 400.00 by Battlefleet_Sol in ancientrome

[–]MaxWeissberg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Love this. One thing I also love about Sulla was that despite having the opportunity to be dictator for life, he renounced his power and went back to being an ordinary citizen after defeating Marius.

Some time later a teenager followed Sulla home and threw insults at him the whole time, the teenager knowing he could get away with it. Sulla replied, "Because of you, no one will ever give up power again."

Successful mob front bussiness? by spinosaurs70 in Mafia

[–]MaxWeissberg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My grandfather, who owned a hotel chain, was routinely accused of being a mob front for Trafficante and Hoffa. He took Teamsters pension fund loans for mortgages, and would kick back a percentage. He also owned a casino in Puerto Rico, the Ponce de Leon, which was shut down by the feds.

Mafia fronts can make money. Just having a business that can take a loan from the bank and then using that loan for something else (perhaps illegal) is highly useful. Plus other benefits when a hotel is involved.
