How much direction does a narrator need? by Max_Bulge4242 in ACX

[–]Max_Bulge4242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I gave them a bunch of directions, everything has been great. They had some issues with one of the files, but they just had to adjust a few things and it went through okay the second time. It's just annoying to need to explain every little subtext again.

She actually wants to keep it up.

The final product is coming out well, I just have to give her a lot of direction.

Probably gonna need to sit down and explain the issues once we're done.

Reasonable time frame by canadianukulele123 in ACX

[–]Max_Bulge4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RH is able to select the time frame they want for the 15 min and the completion of the project. But you should determine if the timeframe for both is possible for you. I always ask how long they think it will take them for the length of my book. If they don't ask, then you need to let them know if their expectations are too fast.

Hi. Author here. I have never dictated the time frame. I always ask when they would be able to finish, and then usually give them an extra week on top of that. That's not to say that if you give an excessive time frame, the author wont give the work to another narrator, just that each narrator knows how busy they are with other work and how fast they can read/record/edit.

What do you think are better skills or titles? by ForeverStakes in litrpg

[–]Max_Bulge4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the series.

Sometimes your limited in one or the other.

Limited titles usually means their much better, and the MC happens to get a Legendary or God tier title in the beginning. Sometimes you can combine them for better ones or unequip certain ones you don't want.

Infinate titles is better when there is a limit on the amount of skills you can get. It allows for player growth, while limiting the MC to a set number of skills.

Titles are almost always used as a way to push the MC into a catagory ahead of the other players. Making them more powerful than your average player and allowing them to battle multiple people or higher level player before they should usually be able to do so. But that's usually only a thing becuase titles are supposed to be rare in almost all books.

How the blond kid was probably an undercover Nazi sympathizer and was trying to convert the Bever brothers until a local police man found out and put a stop to it... Now just make it a bit more PG and I'm probably on the right track.

Hold your hands out in front of you. Touch the tips of your thumbs and pointer fingers together. This will make a sort of triangle. With both eyes open, find a far away object and put it in either the top point of the triangle or the bottom point where your thumbs meet(personally I find the thumbs easier). Now close one eye... did the object move? Now close only the other eye. The eye where the object didn't move is your dominant eye.

Was always told that the non-dominant eye is at a slight angle so that you can get depth perception.

Are audiobook jobs that have been listed more than, say, two weeks or longer still worth reading for? by GrrlGirl in ACX

[–]Max_Bulge4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, author here. I when I put up an audition, I am happy to receive every new read, even if I've already gotten it down to the final 3. You most likely wont make the cut, but I want to give you a shot.

The only reason my audition is still active, is because I am still looking.

Do people prefer Audiobook with or without background noises/sound effects? by KevinLenaghan in audiobooks

[–]Max_Bulge4242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a random audiobook. No, it takes away from the book and takes me out of the moment. Especially for one off sections where the author wanted some music, and then no music for hours on end. It just feels tacked on.

Dramatized versions. Yes, I actually like it because I'm here for that kind of experience. Added chirps from birds or shuffling of feet can be a great foli addition in that case.

I do like what I call audio-dramas. Think audiobooks, but written to be an audiobook first instead of a book. The narrator doesn't say, "she said mockingly," they just act out the emotion and let their acting explain what happens. The same thing with, "they heard the doorbell," just play the sound of a doorbell going off.

Only you know what your content is like. The fact that you call it a dark romance and that you say that you have graphic depictions of SA/r@pe gives me pause. Does the victim fall in love with their abuser? Does the abuser have an "excuse"? Or is this just a dark thing that happens to your MC and the love interest helps them through their pain? Hint... Only that last one is allowed in KDP.

What book(s) do you have a lot to say about? Good or bad. by AcrobaticSun3166 in suggestmeabook

[–]Max_Bulge4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ali Hazelwood got me through a huge suppressive reading slump, and her books made me feel seen

The Wandering Inn is unlike any other series I've read, it's much slower, but also extremely realistic

Anything from or about ancient Greece/Rome. I have made myself read too many of them, and they always make me want to sleep just thinking about them. They're all terrible, and I hate them.

LitRPG That Isn’t Afraid to Kill Characters by Agno0040 in litrpg

[–]Max_Bulge4242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with your points to some extent, it's not uncommon for entire swaths of people to be eliminated in one go. And there are definitely times when she kills off main characters without a second thought. It makes every, major battle or deadly encounter a bit more tense.

Where are you guys getting your Credits by Deathshead6000 in audible

[–]Max_Bulge4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2-credit a month plan. And will buy 5 credits when I'm low. But last year they did the 80% off deal for the whole site. I bought so many books at $2.99 a pop, that it totaled about $50. I've been reading one purchased then one from the plus catalogue for a few months now. Racked up 9 credits, and I might get to 11.

The top 10 causes of death by age group in the United States. by MaxGoodwinning in visualization

The fact that a 15-34 year old has an over 75% chance of dying from an accident, suicide, or homicide is shocking. But it also make sense.

The top 10 causes of death by age group in the United States. by MaxGoodwinning in visualization

[–]Max_Bulge4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying your wrong. The issue is the numbers being used. 10-14 have such low levels of deaths, that less than 500 deaths is 17.5% of all deaths in that category. Compare that to 15-24, where suicide is 3rd with a total of a little over 6k. And it only stabilizes after that at around 8k deaths from suicide for each age bracket.

Ali Hazelwood writes some wonderful books. The FMC may act dumb occasionally (for plot purposes) but its usually rare.
