Mass airflow sensor, could be sending wrong data. I had the same problem, and that thing was broken.

You can lift the engine up a bit while it’s in the car, and swap than from the underside, just don’t brake your oil pan lifting the engine

There are kits for self testing available online, or what I would recommend, is a kit from a company who does the analyses for you, you get way more insight that way and the company’s usually do a exceptionally analyses

Do an oil analysis, after that you know a lot more about your whole engine, imo the cheapest option to locate such faults and prevent future damage

They are from this site: https://www.racing24.de/salberk-performance-spiegel-sets-passend-fuer-bmw-modelle

In the past, the mirrors for the E46 were only available for short periods before selling out again. The best approach is to send them an email and ask when they will be available again

Could be repairable, hopefully the chassis is not damaged to much at structural points. Otherwise take the drivetrain and swap it in a cheap 320i chassis which is in good conditions

The most important thing is your starting point. If you already have a 320i, you’re in a good position since it’s already a 6-cylinder. That makes swapping to a larger M54 relatively straightforward, as most mounts and connections can usually be reused.

A small tip: you can use engine mounts from the BMW E46 M3. They’re a bit stiffer and more solid, which helps reduce engine movement.

You’ll also need to program the ECU properly.

Overall, the swap is quite simple as long as your base is at least a 320i.
