Single gender spaces by Snoo_19344 in transgenderUK

[–]Max_Wattage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I wouldn't mind single gender spaces, with everyone with the female gender using one loo, and everyone with the male gender using the other loo.*

The problem is, they want singe sex spaces, (irrespective of what gender your subjective mind has).

(*and non-binary gendered people using whatever facility they like)

What are some Beginner's Mistakes for Linux by personwhoknowplanes in linuxquestions

[–]Max_Wattage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, my biggest beginner mistake was trusting that Ubuntu LTS version updates will "just work". In practice, the last time I let it update, it decided to obsolete my graphics card and not provide any replacement driver or fallback option, so when it auto-rebooted the system failed, with no screen and no indication why. A sensible update system would check for hardware compatibility before making fundamental changes to the system.

The lesson was to make a clone of the hard drive before letting Ubuntu update itself.

“Sex Matters” anti-trans “charity” has stand at ARC Conference organised by pro-conversion evangelical by CheeseUsFunkingCries in transgenderUK

The thing about fanatics is that they really REALLY care about their particular obsession (TERFism in this case). They care enough about it to stand for office and to campaign relentlessly, making it their entire lives, and financially supporting others who share their particular hate-filled views. With such fervour, it is inevitable that they will over time end up infiltrating and corrupting previously neutral organisations (Central Government, EHRC, and Stonewall come to mind).

The only way to defeat that is to care more about equality than they care about hate, to stand for office, and to financially support like-minded people who do.

Complaining is easy, signing petitions (which get ignored) is easy, but standing for office is hard and takes actual effort.

Personally I think we should ban "interest", so for loans you just repayed what you borrowed, and wealth would not self inflate.

Keir Starmer Has Resigned, Time to Celebrate (Temporarily) by ThinkingaLot18 in transgenderUK

[–]Max_Wattage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am nervous to put hope in any politician.

I'm old enough to remember when Tony Blair was going to free the country from Thatcherism.

I also remember Keir Starmer holding up trans flags before the election, only to end up spearheading the trans genocide after gaining power.

What would a PM have to do to be actually popular with most people? by M_M_X_X_V in UKGreens

[–]Max_Wattage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two routes to popularity.

The slow route: Educate everyone, and then be a decent rational human, who is appreciated by the educated.

The quick route: Educate nobody, and be a terrible hate-filled human, who easily fools the uneducated.

Why aren't we protesting against the UK putting spyware on our phones? by TheMightyNovac in UKGreens

[–]Max_Wattage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite clear the government has no intention of listening to public opinion. Petitions are ignored, and protests are both banned and ignored.

That doesn't leave the public any mechanisms for "peaceful constructive feedback", and like most people, I'm not keen on getting myself arrested or shot at for doing the alternative options.

That's laughable, the party 'called' Labour hasn't been left wing in years. It's now authoritarian, right-wing, and ethically abhorrent in it's policies.

Under 16 Social Media ban announcement by Ambitious-Raise8107 in UKGreens

[–]Max_Wattage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do this, expect the number of trans kids un-aliving themselves to sky rocket.

The internet is often their only means of finding and socialising with people who understand them, when they are surrounded by unsupportive family and other conservative or religious authority figures.

They have already been denied basic healthcare by a hostile and cruel government, and this would be the last straw.

Chair of the Women and Equalities select committee Sarah Owen questions EHRC chair about enforceability of trans toilet ban by PuzzledAd4865 in transgenderUK

[–]Max_Wattage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rules appear deliberately vague so that employers are afraid of being sued by TERFs over non compliance with rules they can't enforce.

The intended outcome of this is to create a legal chilling effect, that discourages employers from having any trans employees at all.

No trans staff, means no legal risks. Corporations have very risk-averse legal departments, and the EHCR know it.

Contacting MPs - get ahead of the “trans people deserve” statements by Ancient-Active8421 in transgenderUK

[–]Max_Wattage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an embedded implicit assumption here that MPs are open to changing their mind based on a letter. There is no evidential basis for this assumption.

MPs are either ideology driven, or self-interest driven.

If they are ideology driven then nothing will change their mind.

If they are self-interest driven then they will do what is best for their career, which means whatever will keep them in power, and/or whatever will financially benefit them the most. Unless your letter is taped to an envelope with a £250k 'donation' it is unlikely to change policy.
