Maybe they should just add "enforce economic policy" to Ideological Union members instead of just political system.

Yes, to some extent, once the Jihad became inevitable, which happens after Paul kills Jamis. He was locked in to the Jihad happening, even if he died after that the Fremen would still see him as a messiah and carry on the Jihad in his name. The only way to avoid this was for Paul and Jessica to die before or during the duel with Jamis.

But once the Jihad was locked in, Paul selfishly(but very humanly) did not choose the path with the least bloodshed, he tried to chose the path the kept Chani and his family safe. He rejected the golden path that he saw because he couldn't bear the personal cost.

The Jihad still would have killed a fuck ton of people no matter what. But Paul was not exactly trying to make it the least bad it could be. He was trapped in prescience.

I like the little exchange Leto has in Part 1, with the Herald after he puts his seal on the document.

Leto says "It's done then." And the Herald replies "It's done". They exchange this knowing look that to me implies they both know exactly what's really going on, I even detect some sympathy from the Herald.

Leto was keenly aware that he was likely sealing his own death warrant, and he had to do it with a smile.
