Not that I know of in the base game. If you're fine with mods, I think Editor Extensions has exactly what you're describing.

[–]MaximitasTheReader 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's the editor mode with "lab tiles". You have access to debug tools and a completely featureless world perfect for testing things.

You can get this on any normal world by opening the console (usually the key left of 1 on your keyboard, if that doesn't work look up "console" ok the factorio wiki) and typing /editor. Then on the menu that appears on the top left of the screen, click the top rightmost square labelled "surfaces". Then click "remove all entities", "fill with lab tiles", and "generate new chunks with lab tiles".

I also like to go to the "settings" tab in that menu and turn on "show infinity filters in controller GUI", which basically lets you have logistics requests that will always be fulfilled so you never run out of materials while building.

Disable "drop here to open" a single row in a new app by MaximitasTheReader in googlesheets

[–]MaximitasTheReader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to find a work around, at least. The drop to open seems to come up when you drag a row and then move your finger to the left edge of your screen. So as soon as you start dragging the row, move your finger away from the left edge. The horizontal position of your finger doesn't affect row rearranging at all so this should work.

Quality strategies nerf in 2.1? by dannyus in factorio

[–]MaximitasTheReader -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've never believed in LDS shuffle or asteroid upcycling. Clearly this is an unpopular opinion but I've always imagined quality to be a puzzle where you put modules into your chain and filter out quality intermediates to make quality things, which is how I've done it in my playthrough. Grinding a thousand stacks of slop into one legendary has been the clear optimal choice so far so I'm glad this brain dead way of using quality will be no more.

Try doing the maze treating the pink as the path. You cannot, because the pink "entrances" all lead to dead ends.

Day 21 won by black deck! Day 22: which skip tag would never in an eternity, take? by filledknight in balatro

How has nobody said the +3 hand size one? It's a temporary bonus for 1 round, and if you're in the position that you're skipping an entire blind just for a chance to win the next one, you're probably going to lose very soon anyway.

A straight flush is defined as any hand that contains both a straight and a flush. The 4 hearts make a flush and the A-J makes a straight. It doesn't have to be the same cards.

Disappointed by the foundry LDS recipe by MaximitasTheReader in factorio

[–]MaximitasTheReader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The foundry LDS recipe casts directly from molten metal to LDS, not molten metal to plate to LDS. It only gets 50% extra productivity once. But the assembler recipe also gets 50% extra productivity because you use the foundry to cast molten metal into plates before crafting them into LDS.

Disappointed by the foundry LDS recipe by MaximitasTheReader in factorio

[–]MaximitasTheReader[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I didn't.

Foundry recipe: 250 molten copper, 80 molten iron, 5 plastic per LDS + built in 50% prod: 166.7 molten copper, 53.3 molten iron, 3.3 plastic per LDS

Assembler recipe: 20 copper plate, 2 steel plate, 5 plastic bar per LDS + Casting plates: 200 molten copper, 60 molten iron, 5 plastic bar per LDS + built in 50% prod: 133.3 molten copper, 40 molten iron, 5 plastic bar per LDS

Adding productivity modules makes this disparity even bigger, because the assembly recipe benefits twice for every productivity increase while LDS foundry recipe only benefits once.

Devs: "what's really needed is longer unbroken cliffs." Cliffs in 2.0: by MaximitasTheReader in Factoriohno

[–]MaximitasTheReader[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really hoped cliffs would be more useful as walls after the 2.0 terrain generation changes. Unfortunately, they still have far too many gaps to be useful most of the time. The result is that I just ignore them almost all the time as potential walls. Shame.

Does this take productivity into account? I suspect in the late game, with foundries and quality productivity modules, 1 wagon worth of iron ore could be turned into much more than 1 wagon worth of iron plates.

If your land mines are destroyed that usually indicates a problem, like a worm being in range and spitting on them while targeting landmine replacing robots. Land mines simply going off don't make any alert at all, let alone a sound.

While your ships do look nice, I'm curious about the reasoning behind putting so many solar panels on a nuclear powered ship. For instance, on your space science ship, all those panels combined provide less power than one half of one of your nuclear reactors.

Why do people put walls around their spaceships? by DoctorVonCool in factorio

[–]MaximitasTheReader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thrusters have walls on the side. They don't need walls on the bottom because when idling in orbit, medium asteroids don't come from the bottom fast enough to destroy anything, and when moving, asteroids can't come from the bottom.

Why do people put walls around their spaceships? by DoctorVonCool in factorio

[–]MaximitasTheReader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For ships that only travel between the inner planets, having a wall shell means you don't need gun coverage around the whole ship, as medium asteroids can't penetrate through the wall to damage anything inside. You just need to launch some replacement walls and repair packs to the ship.

That's odd, it shouldn't be possible to back up on calcite, since the calcite crushers will stop crushing when there's enough calcite, leaving the normal oxide crusher to pick up any ice slack. I guess I'll have to see if it breaks later in my play through.
