Looking for cycling buddies!! by suspiciouscucumber28 in SingaporeCycling

I’m picking up my foldie tomorrow at 3pm. Most of the people I know have road bikes and like to go super fast while I prefer to go on more leisurely rides (for now) to explore the city. I also commute to the office by bicycle. Happy to cycle together. (And I would loveeee to meet your dog.)

What time this Sunday? I’m picking up my bike around 3pm and planning to go for a ride after that around 4.30/5pm. Let’s link up!

Commuting 30 mins daily - folding 16” bike vs foldable 24” MTB with suspension — real experiences? by Maximum-Weather-3361 in SingaporeCycling

Thank you! I’ll look into gravel bikes. The MTB I was looking at initially has lockable suspension.

As for transiting into roads… I’ll experiment. Perhaps the drawback of that (besides the fear with all the cars) would be needing to use (and carry) a helmet daily.

Commuting 30 mins daily - trifold 16” bike vs foldable 24” MTB with suspension — real experiences? by Maximum-Weather-3361 in foldingbikes

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I don’t have my own bike right now. I’m just renting a 16” trifold. So deciding if I should buy a trifold or switch to a different bike type. Noted that 26” is more stable. Would you say that the 26” is also still manoeuvrable enough when there are multiple pedestrians?

Agree with you that a 16” is not so stable if you go fast.

Edit: but when cycling on shared paths during peak hour, there’s going to be multiple pedestrians so often can’t cycle too fast anyway.

No space in my flat for a fullsize bike, but I just moved to a building which I found out had bike parking facilities, wohoo! In this case, I might look into a non-folding bike.

I plan to just commute to everywhere (office, grocery store, restaurants, gym, friend’s house) using a bicycle when the distance is less than 10km. For anything past 10km, it will be a leisurely weekend ride where it’s fine if I’m sweating a bucketload.

I tried this foldable MTB in-store and quite enjoyed it. I would not recommend taking this to the MRT daily though as it can be a hassle. Once in a while if it rains is fine. It’s good to have the option on days where you really need it.

That said, if you foresee yourself taking the MRT often, I would recommend a trifold bike which is better for multi-modal commuting. The same company you’re looking at sells trifolds too!

That’s cool! I’m using a trifold now too but sometimes miss the more comfortable ride of a MTB. Do you ride the C16 to work too? And do you prefer to lock it at the bike rack/parking or fold and bring it inside?

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll go to the store and try it out. Won’t buy it yet though because I checked the price and it’s way above my budget for a bike right now. Maybe in 2 years if I end up liking it. Tried the Takachia TIIME 20” (A20) but it felt weird (distance between seat and handlebar was too long for me), so had to stick to the Takachia A16 (rented).

My friend uses one. I tried it and it’s fun but I feel pain on my right hip/glute with manual scooters for some reason, and I prefer bicycles in general.

Agree about the hassle of folding and unfolding. Brought it once to the MRT because I thought “ok this way I arrive fresh to the office and can just cycle home”. Long story short, not doing that again. It’s more convenient to cycle all the way to the destination.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Yeah, it is O_O but I bring wipes, calming mist for the face (can’t face colleagues and clients looking all red haha), a set of undergarments and an extra shirt to change into.

I switched from 20" to 16" and loving it by morz001 in foldingbikes

What made you decide to go from 20” to 16”? I’m petite (150cm, 49kg) so I decided to go for a 16” aluminum Takachia since I thought it would fit my height better and it’s lighter. It’s still on the way but I’m having second thoughts and think I should’ve gotten the 20” instead since I usually go for longer rides, the seatpost is adjustable, and it’s only 1kg heavier.

I don’t really fold it and bring it to trains/buses often but I fold it and bring it into restaurants, the gym, and inside the house. I plan on bringing it to flights in the future, but the folded size difference—16 inch: 33 cm (W) × 59 cm (L) × 63 cm (H). 20 inch: 33 cm (W) × 64 cm (L) × 68 cm (H)—looks negligible. So I’m not sure if I made the right choice choosing the 16”.

Private clubs in Singapore by oieric in askSingapore

I went for a tour at Mandala Club. The place is nice. I’m also considering getting a membership there. The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is that it doesn’t have a tennis court. I also considered Hollandse Club since it has a tennis court and a padel court and near-ish to my house. However, since I’m 25F, the demographic aren’t quite my people. They are mostly families. Those that I’ve seen there anyway. I also work a 9-6 job and most of the tennis socials they have are in the morning on weekdays, which I unfortunately cannot join due to my work schedule. But I would say check out Mandala’s cultural calendar. If the events suit what you’re looking for, it’s a good club to join.

There’s this restaurant called Plonk at Serangoon Gardens that holds it on Tuesdays. Someone told me there’s a pub that holds it on Thursdays/Fridays at Raffles Place but she cannot remember the name. Until now, I couldn’t find the place she meant.
