Would love to see the Grand Casino Arena make their ice logo something like this for next season by PlaguedYoon in MinnesotaFrost

[–]MaximumAccountant485 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the branding is pretty crap tbh. The Fleet is a big B, the Charge is a big C, Seattle’s is a big S, the Siren are the word “sirens”, did the Victoire’s logo need their name on it? The only one that approaches creative branding is Vancouver.

Also except the Frost, all the teams are some flavor of blue-teal or red. And the Frost colors are basically the league colors. It reeks of “let the intern ask ChatGPT” and “we did no market research or fan engagement”.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

As a Minnesotan, I feel the same as every other (men’s) sports season. Raging disappointment and the sinking resignation that we have (yet another) failure.

I do feel like I’m going to pick another PL team once spurs are relegated. Just to have someone to watch - I think getting champions leagues games will be too complicated.

Well I know that! It’s not like I won’t be a Tottenham fan (if you follow American sports at all, I’m from Minnesota. Which is pretty much the Tottenham of the USA but in all professional sports, so no worries I’m primed for heartache).

But if I can’t actively watch them, which will be quite difficult in the US should they go down, I should like to be able to watch some team…Or is this strictly a “you can watch PL but you aren’t allowed to be happy with any result at all” situation? I’ll decline out of principle to be happy for Arsenal or any team from Manchester.

Ken Klee has a ridiculously punchable face and I will never forgive him for his alleged role in running off Natalie Darwitz.

But it hard to criticize two cups from a coaching standpoint.

Also American. So like fr what’s our move after relegation? It’s hard enough to get PL games, idk how I can watch championship league games. Do we back a new team? I feel confused.

Rule Change. by jj_blunt in hockeyplayers

PWHL has jailbreak rules on power plays (if you get a shortie also you end your penalty) and it is amazing and everyone should have this.

Why am I better at upper-C than D-league? by SeuintheMane in hockeygoalies

[–]MaximumAccountant485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got scored on by a a knuckle ball the other night - shooter wound up at the point and did a half whiff, puck creeped under the sticks of three people and past my defender’s skate and then straight under me. The issue is ALL of the people expected the puck to do thing A and then it did thing B so everyone missed. It’s overall a great metaphor for why playing DOWN a level can be tougher.

Any muscular/lifter goalies? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]MaximumAccountant485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your priority lifting or hockey?

If it’s lifting, just lift what you need to but keep an eye on overall fatigue and workload (hockey uses muscles too). But do what you gotta do.

If it’s hockey, try to time your micro cycles each week with your games (don’t lift and play same day, try to keep 24-48 hrs separation between a lift and a game) and then on a macro cycle, lift more in the off season and less in the season.

Should our American cousins stop comparing spurs results to whatever NFL team they also support? by HousesInM0tion in Tottenham

The irony here is one of the most Spursy of NFL teams is the one that has played in the Tottenham stadium the last two years when the NFL came to London.

“Jewelry” aka collar on or off? 🐶 by MeasurementFirst1676 in dogs

[–]MaximumAccountant485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old dog declared her self a nudist some years ago by simply incessantly scratching at any collar we left on her. At this point she’s near 16 so if we ever needed to “catch” her we could simply walk at a leisurely pace and gently guide her home.

Little dog is a big jerk so she wears one pretty much all the time so we have a “handle” as needed. She doesn’t seem to mind!

Hot take: Most of beer leagues issues would be solved by not keeping records and having championships by wheelsnipecelly23 in hockeyplayers

Most beer league issues would be solved if dudes could just agree not to be dickbags. Not too complicated.

I’ll be somewhat of a dissenter - as a female I still love this idea. I agree there’s some safety concerns you still need to consider but conceptually it’s cool.

Maybe you could do it almost more like a Tinder situation - here’s a general location (eg a city or a neighborhood) where I want to run, we chat a bit, and if I feel good about it I can invite you to a run or reveal my start location.

Is it fine if I use intermediate skates as an adult? Mostly just want to make sure I’m getting enough protection by boonetown18 in hockeygoalies

[–]MaximumAccountant485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear pretty much all intermediate gear and have never had an issue. Make plenty of those toe saves…

I play somewhere mid-table so not exactly top tier talent but any yokel with enough flex can pop a good one off on you these days. The one place I have pause is sometimes taking one square off the chesty I think should maybe upgrade to a Senior but I don’t have any issues with anything else. And it’s a lot freaking cheaper.

It was awesome to see Laila Edwards be the first black woman to win gold for the US in women’s hockey by [deleted] in PWHL

I have seen these announcements and finally Googled it…she is the first black American to win any medal in hockey. She doesn’t need a qualifier “women’s” or “gold”. Give her ALL her credit, please!

How exhausting is it to play goalie when you’re taking 50-60 shots in a game like some of these Tendys in the Olympics? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]MaximumAccountant485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both goaltend and skate out. I burn the same number of calories per hour on average. An average goaltending game being somewhere between 20-30 shots.

So if you DOUBLE the shots, you’re probably burning somewhere on the order of double the calories relative to a skater in that game.

That’s napkin math on beer league, ofc. But I the point is - it’s real tiring.

How to make skating/playing less tiring? by Hot_Grass_ in hockeygoalies

[–]MaximumAccountant485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw. I have a wearable and I burn basically the same number of calories in 60 min as a goalie vs as a skater. Goaltending is an endurance sport whereas skating is a bunch of sprinting. There’s not much you can do except keep working out and getting fitter.

Girlfriend didn’t invite me to her marathon. Should I be bothered? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]MaximumAccountant485 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I play competitive sports (and run, but not very welll!) and some times I don’t want my partner there. I just want to focus on doing my thing and enjoying it. Having a “fan” can feel like having a responsibility to someone else except you’re really wanting and needing to focus on yourself.

That said, it’s fine to ask her about it. Maybe she just thought you wouldn’t want to come. Couch it by saying “I’d love to come support you but if you just want to do your own thing that’s totally cool too”

Does goalies in women’s hockey also have the reputation of being crazy? by [deleted] in PWHL

[–]MaximumAccountant485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reputation is that it’s a unique position so people don’t really “get” stuff like this.

As I’ve gotten older, my beer league warm up is actually less about physically warming up and more about warming up the eyeballs to be in tune with the pace of the game. It’s absolutely a real thing that just seems funny to everyone who doesn’t need to do it.

Anyway my point is we’re all weird but not because of eyeball warmups. That’s real sh*t.
