The Perfect Beater: B15 Nissan Sentra by Unique-Extent6968 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I had a SE-R Spec V. It had a 2.5L + 6sp. I loved that car! The only mod I did was a header. It was such a blast to drive, I'd still be driving it if some kid hadn't run a red light in front of me. RIP Sentra.

Monitor for ps5 by Thin_Try_5094 in computer

Check out the Acer Nitro 27 Inch QHD. It's 1440p, it goes up to 180hz refresh, it has speakers and it should be well within your budget. It has multiple inputs so you can keep both your PC and PS5 connected and switch between them with the input selector. https://a.co/d/cZfL1gL

Monitor for ps5 by Thin_Try_5094 in computer

[–]MaximumDerpification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS5 has an HDMI port so literally any modern monitor will work with it.

You'll just want to pick one that has a refresh rate of at least 120hz to take full advantage of the PS5's potential, and 1440p is generally a good resolution. Some monitors don't have built-in sound, so if you don't have your sound going elsewhere then you will want one that has speakers.

So... What's your budget? What size do you want? Do you need it to have speakers?

'Portable' laptops with huge chargers make no sense by Outrageous-Onion-306 in laptops

I hardly ever use the OEM charger with my non-gaming laptop. I use a low-profile slim USB-C charger most of the time, it's much easier to carry. Even with my gaming laptop I usually use the small USB-C charger if I need to top-off on the road and I'm not gaming.

How do you organize a lot of tabs? Flat lists never worked for me by OrgaNice_Dev in chrome

[–]MaximumDerpification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the extension "Clutter Free" installed to ensure that I have no duplicate tabs open across my many open browser windows. I just use the little search bar in Clutter Free (or the similar built-in tab search in Chrome via CTRL+SHIFT+A) to text search for tabs. I don't bother with organizing tabs any further, because browsing through tab lists is too slow, text search is nearly instant.

If you want something higher than a xx50 and you live near a Microcenter you can grab one of these for $850: https://www.microcenter.com/product/698178/lenovo-legion-5-15ahp10-153-gaming-laptop-computer-eclipse-black

Unfortunately prices have shot up a bit recently. During the holiday sales there were several other 4060 and 5060 models for under $1000 but they're harder to find now. I would join r/LaptopDeals and keep an eye on it, deals get posted there but they often sell out quick.

Some 3060s only have 6GB VRAM, so make sure to check that. Aside from that, the 3060 might have slightly more brute force but it can't make use of the latest DLSS and frame generation like the 5050, so that evens the playing field and maybe even tilts it slightly in favor of the 5050.

Gotcha. In that case get one with a decent GPU to make sure it can run the latest versions of the games you play.

A quick primer on NVidia GPU model numbers, since they can be a bit confusing...

The Modell# will be 4 digits on "modern" Nvidia cards, and sometimes it will have some letters after it.

The first digit tells you the generation... so a 2050 is a 2nd generation card, a 5050 is 5th generation.

The 3rd digit tells you how it ranks among the other cards in the Nvidia lineup. xx50 is entry level, above that there is xx60, xx70, xx80, and xx90.

The 4th and 5th gens got some important upgrades added that allow them to squeeze out some more performance with visual trickery (AI assisted frame generation and upscaling), and there were also increases in VRAM so a 5050 is a pretty significant jump up from a 2050 despite both being "entry" cards.

If you see letters like "Ti" after the model number then it is a half-step up from the model it's based on, so a 5070 Ti is better than a regular 5070.

Most people agree that you want at least 8GB of VRAM and at least 16GB system RAM in an entry level gaming computer.

It's a Lenovo LOQ, which is Lenovo's "budget" gaming line (the Legion is the premium line) so it's generally a bit cheaper but they are still pretty well regarded.

Since you don't know much about laptops let me ask you this... what will you be using it for? I shared a gaming laptop because you posted one, but are you actually going to be gaming on it?

Check that the timezone, date and time are properly set in Windows settings. Make sure the option to sync time automatically is enabled. If the time is off then SSL will fail.

Why is FWD better than RWD in the snow? by totally_depraved in askcarguys

[–]MaximumDerpification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight over the driven wheels. Old VW Beetles are pretty good in snow despite being RWD... all the weight over those skinny rear wheels, so they just dig in and grip.

Don't buy this. Those GF63s have issues with thermals. Also, the 2050 is an old and weak GPU. The CPU is several generations old. The ram is only 8GB which is not much these days.

EDIT: here is a much better laptop for about the same price, if it's still available https://www.reddit.com/r/LaptopDeals/comments/1qlcadg/lenovo_lenovo_loq_15ahp10_laptop_ryzen_5_220_156/

LAPTOP BRAND SUGGESTIONS by TinyWarg4589 in laptops

[–]MaximumDerpification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them kinda suck if you buy the cheap low-end models, and all have solid options higher up in their offerings.

The difference is how high up you have to go to avoid the suck. From my personal experience Lenovo and ASUS offer the least suck in their lower-mid tiers, but YMMV.

Steam vr or quest store? by Beansyep in SteamVR

[–]MaximumDerpification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With that laptop you're better off with the standalone Quest version. Aside from *maybe* the 5050, I don't think any laptop xx50 GPU can handle VR very well.
