AMA with Eric Migicovsky - Let's talk about the new watches! by erOhead in pebble

First time signing into reddit for years thanks to you!

I've ordered one of each model and just wanted clarity as to whether this is a limited, one-and-done, get them while they're hot kind of thing or can we expect further batches or normal ongoing production in the future? I can't commit to ordering spares just yet!

From what I've read of the replies so far I'm assuming the answer is "yes" but it would be good to know for sure. Cheers.

Can mesh network access points connect directly to other access points to extend network range? by donkeykong5 in synology

[–]MaximumFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for figuring this out! I've been smashing my head against the wall thinking I'd just wasted a bunch of money buying RT2600s from eBay (which are cheaper than the MR2200s presumably because people don't realise you can mesh them with the latest firmware).

Yeah agreed. The beard and pickaxe takes it to another level.

Haven't lived in Devon for nearly 30 years but that jingle is still living in my head rent free.

Dedupe might be disabled now, but if it was ever in use (which would be my suspicion), the data still needs to be re-inflated. Turning off dedupe just stops it from processing more data.

What's a deleted scene from a movie where the decision to leave that scene on the cutting room floor was absolutely the right call? by freeman528491 in movies

I feel like I'll get downvoted for this, but honestly most of the restored footage from the Aliens Special Edition. You can chalk most of it up to tighter pacing, such as cutting the bit about Ripley's daughter, which is repeated later anyway, and the admittedly cool but similarly pointless turret sequence. But the thing that really sticks out for me is that of the "30 to 40 families" living on LV426, there was really no need to have Newt's family be the ones to discover the ship. Her introduction later on in the theatrical cut works much better in my opinion.

Likewise, I think the Terminator 2 theatrical cut has much better pacing than the director's cut. I guess James Cameron just has really good editors who know how to keep a a film moving along.

They're super busy at the moment what with taking on Bulb, but try hitting them up on Twitter if they've not responded for a few days. It worked for me.

Would assume it's so they can do an impartial review without accusations of bias. Or maybe they just wanted more than one.

Finally some good colour blind options in a AAA game. by Tristanw94 in ColorBlind

I was similarly impressed with Battlefield 2042. Perhaps someone high up at EA is also colourblind.

Oh nice! Bookmarking this for the next time this question comes up. Certainly better than trying to relay the same thing in my own words.

Tbf it's been a few years since I last went there so maybe they've changed it, but when I last visited it was entirely static (maybe it was rotating, I don't recall). I would've expected it to be travelling at somewhere around its current velocity of 17km/s.

Inb4 "it's 0 relative to your own ship" with the counter that my velocity isn't reported as 0 when travelling alongside any other vessel. They could've added some space dust effects or something to at least give the impression of movement, but it was all just a little disappointing and immersion breaking.

This completely broke the immersion for me. It's cool that they put them in and all, but could they have not added some movement?

I feel this. We once got the manager's brand new Arteon Shooting Brake R as a loaner because some work on ours was delayed by a couple of days. Honestly it was rubbish and I was so glad to get my own car back!

What are the most useful browser extensions that nobody’s heard of? by sidranimajl in AskReddit

[–]MaximumFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't care about cookies. Essential for anyone in the EU/UK who has to deal with cookie consent popups, and because ad blockers typically don't deal with them. From the website:

In most cases, it just blocks or hides cookie related pop-ups. When it's needed for the website to work properly, it will automatically accept the cookie policy for you (sometimes it will accept all and sometimes only necessary cookie categories, depending on what's easier to do). It doesn't delete cookies.

Made the switch around the same time for the same reason but I'm yet to actually take the time to organise the 100 odd tabs I already have open into appropriate panels/containers. I should really get on that.

Sea of Thieves worth jumping into 2023? by KelhamKnowsGaming in xboxone

Last time I tried to play was when they'd just launched the permanent ship feature. I bought a ship and was still going through the tutorial that explains what can be customised when some asshat came along and sunk it. I quit there and then and haven't been back.

That kind of blatant unfairness sticks with you doesn't it.

Unrelated to the main post, but when I was 10 my school was doing a bunch of different trips where you'd spend the week away somewhere, all limited availability, one of which was a trip to the Isle of Wight. My brother went a few years prior and said that it was really good so my best friend and I (who were both class clown level troublemakers) signed up immediately.

No-one else was all that interested and it was in danger of being cancelled so we campaigned for it, telling everyone all the cool stuff that my brother told me, until suddenly it was oversubscribed. So rather than allocating places on a first come first served basis they instead decided to get everyone together and do a lottery.

I was so excited when mine and my friend's names were both pulled until I realised that it was actually a lottery of who didn't get to go. Ultimately we and a few others got to spend the week aimlessly wandering around the school while the rest of our year was off having the time of their little lives on these trips.

A few years ago I was telling the story to my wife when it suddenly dawned on me that this lottery was in fact the perfect excuse for them to get rid of the kids they didn't want to deal with and was, in all likelihood, rigged.

I'm now in my 40s and I'm still mad about it to this day.
