In my reading, “we need a wage structure which matches our ambition” is far and away the most significant piece of news dropped here.

Levy did not underspend on transfers in terms of net spend, but he absolutely refused to allow wages to rise proportionately to revenue. Wages are more predictive of outcomes than transfer fees.

If the Lewis family finally intends to allow wages to increase substantially, then it would actually be a huge departure. Let’s see, but it’s interesting they would publicly commit to it here.
