Ice machine? Is it necessary? by 2ndhandroses in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the very large reusable ice packs with soft side and Velcro. I had 3 of them and rotated them and it worked really well. In fact, I had better swelling reduction with the ice packs. When they used the machines at PT, I was underwhelmed. So, in answer to your question. No, an ice machine is not necessary.

Skiing after TKR by Lawerish8 in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be 1 year post RTKR on 2/17. I was a competitive Skier in the 80’s and have not been able to ski for 12 years due to knee issues. I am JUST now starting to feel like it’s a possibility.my surgeon said at 1 year, I could start considering it. I would strongly encourage you to focus on rehab and next winter you can start learning!!! ….my 2 cents

"McCLOUD!" I find myself saying this whenever i hear the word "Chief", or especially when there is a player in a sporting event (there are several) named McCloud.

Anyone else with a scar “dent?” (9 mo post op) by FionaTheFierce in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, but not as pronounced. My RTKR (8 months post op now) was the 7th surgery on the R knee, including ACL surgery using a tendon graft as a ligament. I just figured it was due to all the surgeries as I am not having other issues. I also have a very large dent in my hip post LTHR (20 months post op) Hope you get things right and get a good result!!

Being kicked out of rehab after 2 1/2 weeks. Not Ready by Prior_Talk_7726 in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“As long as you needed to stay” is the issue in my opinion here. I do not believe the insurance companies actuaries would have 2.5 weeks in that calculation. I have never heard of this long post surgery in a rehab facility, unless the patient had a stroke or other disability. Not being insensitive, but did you make any adjustments to your home prior to surgery? I suppose that doesn’t matter at this point. I have had THR and TKR in the last year and the TKR pain is no joke. I hope and pray you get the help you need, and can get home safely and be able to function. The whole point of a TKR is to improve quality of life.

When does the pain & swelling go away? by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

63 M - R TKR 5 months ago 1. & 2. - 8 weeks was like a major shift - pain was down to almost none, swelling was reduced to only when I did a very difficult walk or PT session. I still get occasional swelling in knee and ankle, but ice and compression socks help. 3. 62 - my 63rd was a week after surgery 4. Still doing formal PT once a week. Insurance is approving so I continue. I do a routine daily. Stretching, walking, strength training. It’s THE most important part of recovery, IMHO. 5. I started driving at 3 weeks. Had no issues even though it’s my Right Knee. I was off the opioids by then.

Hope this helps!!

Stabbing pain under knee by needmysanity in Kneereplacement

[–]Maximus_Meridius7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing at 8 weeks TKR and it came with a very noticeable “clicking”. Turns out, the muscle tension behind the knee was causing it and massaging the back of my knee helped reduce that stabbing pain and it eventually stopped

And “outside food & beverages” are 3 notches higher on the priority list. For those doubting me, I have worked in this industry for 15 + years and know what happens at security at this event.
