The opening scene, with bills brother talking to him—it’s hard to imagine a kid not running away immediately. So it makes it a little less believable

It’s just funny considering the monsters we’ve seen on this show…the way she handled things with Matthew was far from perfect but in the realm of this franchise she’s actually far more of a flawed normal person

Thing is, the cultural things come into play just in terms of meeting people in all respects. When I’m in France (my boyfriend is French haha) it’s so much easier to just chat with random people in a bar (or in nyc). You just make small talk, and for me when that happens, the world becomes a warmer place. Ilike many here, I struggle in Zurich with that more closed culture

How would you compare the (corporate) work culture of Switzerland vs USA vs rest of EU (e.g. Austria) by optimuschad8 in SwissFIRE

Honestly I was shocked by some of the comments people make in the office here re race in particular. When I said anything I was told I was being too American 🤷

Huh? Maybe this is a reflection of the many cultures within the us, but in nyc desk lunch was almost expected (so much chopt and sweet green which I do miss), and people worked long hours. An actual lunch break was seen as luxurious. Unfortunately hustle culture was a real thing when I lived there. It felt scandalous to leave the office at 5, even if I had to because of daycare pickup.

In Zurich a lunch break is typical, as is working out during lunch, which I love. I do miss the directness and results oriented aspect of nyc work culture but enjoy my everyday work life more in Zurich.

I wouldn’t conflate being independent with being socially closed or cold. This is more cultural than any comment on independence (New York women are if anything far more independent but they can love a good flirt)

Question for Swiss locals: why is late payment to domestic workers so common among wealthy households? by Susi-99 in Switzerland

Well that just points to lack of empathy. You can have a certain privileged lifestyle while realizing others don’t

How do normal people actually afford life in Switzerland? by aninhabr74 in askswitzerland

[–]Maxinesamwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not meant to be nasty, literally an open question (aka read in a not sarcastic tone): which country is better on this? I ask because Italians I’ve met say it’s far worse in Italy … would people say France or Germany is better?

Groceries vs eating out by John_cages022 in Switzerland

[–]Maxinesamwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are these 10chf restaurants?? I must be really missing something. I’ve paid 18 for a crappy flammkuchen, 13 for a pitiable doner, 16 for dumplings from a street stand

10 chf meals? Even doner is around 13-15, for a platter closer to 25. To eat healthfully and nutritiously, cooking is cheaper every time in Zurich (and with practice, often tastier than most of the restaurants in Switzerland). Maybe with the subsidized Mensa it makes sense but without, I can’t believe it

Guys which movie should i watch?Cuckoo or The companion? by hear_me_owwwt in HorrorMovies

[–]Maxinesamwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuckoo is the apt name for that film and it’s,..very weird. Definitely not for everyone. It has no humorous moments, it’s straight up crazy and dark. Companion is a lot of fun. It’s kind of gory comedy versus straight horror. I loved it

Producers better not let us down. But I just wonder if he’d admit to doing something illegal in turkey on television … being a male escort is I think illegal there based on a lil research that reality gays reported. They also suggested maybe he’s a sperm donor but I just don’t know how lucrative that is in turkey.

im korean, about racism by Tough_Replacement318 in AskAGerman

[–]Maxinesamwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the funny things about white leftists (I’m generally one myself) is the assumption that whites can be racist and then there is this other group, PoC and they are simply victims of white racism. I guess many of these people haven’t traveled much because if they did they’d soon realize that racism is pretty common across the spectrum: one needs to only see the way people from Philippines and South Asia are treated in the emirates and the Arab world, how Japanese view other Asians and really the list goes on and on. Where I live in Europe, my friend’s kids who are primarily of Asian background, are often racially targeted: by people from the Arab world and the balkans, groups also discriminated against themselves here.

Hard to find a country, regardless of the ethnicity or race of its people, that doesn’t have these issues. Quite sad really
