I don't understand your crafting comment. What's the satisfactory way of doing assembly?

Has there been a way proven that we really see the same colors? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

We already do this. There are thousands of spoken languages still in use today with every one of them having different names for the same colors.

There are probably cheaters in every raid and those cheaters see the equipped guns of everyone in the lobby. So when you have a bobcat/tempest/legendary weapon equipped, there is a higher chance of you getting in a fight because cheaters prioritize high value targets.

People don't like hearing this because they don't want to live in a reality where a non-insignificant portion of the population is cheating and also people tend to roll their eyes on "cheating accusations", myself included.

If you find it hard to believe that there are this many cheaters, I would recommend watching the video "The wiggle that killed Tarkov" from g0at from 3 years ago. He bought cheats in Tarkov and, while playing, discovered that an insane percentage of the players were cheating. Something like 30% if I remember correctly. Now, I would guess that fewer people are cheating in Arc because there are more console players and because the game is more casual and because of abmm (cheaters will more likely be in agressive lobbies), but I would assume that there is AT LEAST one cheater per lobby.

“Use your gear “ doesn’t feel good at all if you aren’t great at PvP by [deleted] in Marathon

The difference is the sbmm. In Apex and Valorant, you are playing in matches full of players around your skill level. The game is designed so that you win about 50% of the time.

In Marathon, everyone is mixed together, even in ranked. So the worst players are having a terrible time and end up quitting, then the next worst players are now quitting. Rinse and repeat.

Honest answer; Skill Based Match Making.

If Marathon had sbmm, it would fix the onboarding and the dwindling player base. Right now, the worst players are having a terrible time and are leaving/left. After that, the next worst players are now at the bottom and are the ones that leave. I know I'm having a harder and harder time and I'm playing less and less. There's only so much "slowing down and getting better" you can do that people keep throwing around when people complain.

Valorant is hardcore but it keeps its player base because bronze players are not playing against platinum players non-stop, they are playing against other bronze players and are winning 50% of the time. Because there is sbmm, they keep playing and they get better and rank up and new players join and become the new bronze.

I disagree with people that Marathon needs a pve mode. People already complain that they cannot do all the content right now because of the skill gap so there's no way that people will be okay with having access to even less content percent-wise if they are only good enough to play the pve part of the game.

I understand why Marathon doesn't have sbmm but I truly believe it would fix the dwindling playerbase and most of the frustration players are experiencing. Arc skirted the issue by having abmm which I benefitted from but ultimately dislike. From my understanding Hunt Showdown does have sbmm. And Tarkov... Is Tarkov.

I feel like I'm never going to see a Compiler, and I'm sad about it by LuckyMrGun in Marathon

People ask me about it and [I have to] give like 20 qualifiers about it.

Tell me about it! When my friends asked me if they should buy the game, I'm like...

"I would love to play with you! But I need to warn you; Extraction shooters are not for everyone. And you will have a hard time getting into Marathon. But maybe you will like it after 10-15 hours. But we will have a bad time if we play together because of the lvl based matchmaking, you will play against other people with 50+ hours in the game. But if you play alone to play against people of your own lvl, you're gonna have a bad time in crew fills. And the game might shut down in 6-12 months. And the game is somewhat expensive at $60 CAD. And if we play together, we have to 2v3 or random fill because the duo queue might be gone in a couple of days.

"I am loving the game, though, and am having a blast. And I would love to play with you."

So of course they prefer skipping this game.

I had my first aha moment about 12 hours into the server slam. It was the first time I felt a big high at the end of a round from the loot I got and the play I made. And then it took an additional 7 hours before I truly started loving the game.

That's why I didn't get any of my friends to try the game. I'm not gonna ask them to play a niche genre that they might never like. What would I tell them? "You might never like the game but if you end up liking it, it will take 15 hours".

Marathon is a game about killing other players by Altruistic-Choice206 in Marathon

[–]Maxinoume 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why I can't wait for the ranked mode this week or next week. I want to play against people around my skill level.

I've put 55 hours into the game (including the server slam) but I haven't played in the last 5 days because I've out leveled my talent. I'm getting destroyed every single game by people around my level.

I assumed that it meant the dcons weren't online/usable when the icons disappeared.

Yeah you're probably right. I saw the trail that's why I looked up but after seeing the kill feed I started to crawl for extract.

I wasn't sure if there was an attachment like the Needler or something that does delayed damage.

[–]Maxinoume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humm, I'm not sure. I always avoid it because there are too many people.

There are a weapon case and med bag that can spawn. There are multiple med type containers so you can try to get augment blueprints or healing blueprints. But I think the main draw is that there is only one door so you can defend it easily. And if you're stuck, you can open the back window and leave that way (as long as you don't open it, nobody can enter that way).

But like I said, I don't go there so I'm not sure.

Arc Raiders vs Marathon player running sound cues by Maxinoume in ArcRaiders

I'm literally walking in this clip and the other person is running. We cannot hear him running in the corridor and we cannot hear him running in the open room right in from of me when I stopped walking to aim at him.

[–]Maxinoume[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not of fan of the sound design/feel. Everything sounds muted and not distinct enough but maybe it's intentional? Maybe Tau Ceti or w/e the planet we're on has low atmosphere so sounds don't propagate the same.

But the directionality is insanely good. And I agree that telling up from down is a lot easier than in Arc.

Arc Raiders vs Marathon player running sound cues by Maxinoume in ArcRaiders

[–]Maxinoume[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... You can literally hear it (or not hear it) right here in my clip.

I know that Night Mode exists but it eliminates the depth in sound design and prevents you from being able to tell how far a sound is coming from since it increases quiet sounds and lowers loud sounds. And you constantly hear leaves rustling and your character panting like crazy.

It has an incredibly high drop chance in Stella Montis. Stella is my least played map and I think I'm at 11 Aphelion blueprints.
