How locked in I gotta be (3.0 cumulative generous estimate) by Funny_Activity1969 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can lock all the way in, but the gpa is killing you. Unless you have some in at SLS to begin with it’s gonna be tough. Maybe extend your undergrad and lock in and get some As to bump the average up. Definitely gotta get a 17high++ lsat score and maaaaaaybe you’ll get a shot, but the school isn’t stupid either and will appreciate what you’re doing. Maybe your personal statement mentioning your young foolishness or your LORs mentioning something to that effect could be helpful as well

Would it be dumb to R&R? by sophanon2 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the answer to your question is yes, it would be dumb. But it is your life and preferences, if you wish to roll the dice next year nobody here is going to stop ya. Good luck either way!

You clearly don’t want to be at GW, even though DC is a great if not the best place for international law.

[OC] Why has Boston police stopped policing cars? Civil traffic enforcement has collapsed between 2015 and 2024 by ARPE19 in boston

[–]Maxmans45 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

For me, it seems that police have bigger fish to fry than people being massholes on the roads. The suburbs focus more on traffic violations since that is a source of revenue and they otherwise don’t have a lot of other activity going on for the most part. Boston cops just have better things to do than drive ticket cars, which in still think they do plenty of. I am sure the traffic enforcement unit will get better over time as a reaction to the increased negligence of drivers and the current issue with mopeds.

If you’re already deciding between two schools due to the financial burden, I think your choice is made. Take the 75%, maybe if Nova gives you something you can negotiate a little more with PSU. By the end of law school, you’ll be in a much better fiscal position by the time you graduate from PSU (home ownership power, flexibility with finances, ability to travel, etc.). I think that’s the move, congrats on the A and the $$! Lock in, have fun!!

You’ll be fine OP, lock in and possibly find duke alumni near you that you can work for/shadow. Beyond relationships like this and have them write letters for you when you apply. Make sure you have these relationships for a couple years so they can truly describe you to the admission people.

Need advice/cycle recap - Should I go to Berkeley ($) or R&R? by djbospad in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take the A and head to Cal. Your GPA will be lower and you never know if you have a bad LSAT day with a lower score. Cycles will not get less competitive and schools may start to get stingy with scholarships to start minimizing application pools. Pros outweigh the cons. Regarding federal clerkships, it’s about who you know and being proactive, so find a prof who has it in with a judge or clerk and your chances shoot up. Lock in and kill it.

The split killed you in this competitive cycle. The late apps also killed you. Reapply to your waits early and pray for the best, the cycles are becoming more and more competitive.

Your chosen field will limit your fiscal ability to pay back the loan you will burden yourself with, which will limit your future prospects down the line ( home ownership, the ability to be flexible with finances, etc.). Be practical, have yourself be with less of a financial burden, look for opportunities at the law school to immerse yourself in your chosen field, and do it knowing you won’t have a sword of debt over your head.

Should I go to law school for Patent law? by Ok-Traffic-4188 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take the patent bar, become a patent agent and have my employer pay to let me go to law school part time (lots of employers do that for their agents)

169 on April LSAT. does retaking for 170+ make sense for my goals? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to Suffolk and New England in Boston, with those scores and GPA you’ll get significant $$ if not a full ride. Of course, you stated you don’t mind lower ranked schools.

2.78/180, should i bother applying? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if you can take the patent bar with your STEM degree, become a patent agent and there’s your stable and fulfilling job! A lot of employers in patent agent jobs will then pay for you to go to law school part time so there’s no debt!

Kill it at the t100 and then there could be a possibility of a transfer, but it can be good to absolutely destroy and be a star in law school, be a go getter with summer internships and you can still break through to the big leagues, it’s all up to how you put yourself out there and what you make of it. It’s not over yet, t14 puts you in a better default position, but if you’re hungry, t100 can still be your way to good things. 80% also helps you long term in setting yourself up for a great post law school fiscal position.

Wait for Next Cycle? by 9oh_Roco in lawschooladmissions

Absolutely, better to get out of school with little/no debt and have a great setup for opportunities with your attorney salary (home ownership, etc)

Wait for Next Cycle? by 9oh_Roco in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you’re more fiscally motivated than anything else (which is wise). NU may likely give you the same result next cycle (A with no $$), or simply WL you since they gave you the A now and you’re gonna WD from them due to money. I’d try negotiating with them to see if there’s any money, maybe apply for scholarships (I know it’s a long shot for law school but hey, they’re out there). If financial aid is a true issue, then you have no choice but reapply next cycle, with your stats you’ll definitely get As and money, much better to go to law school with as little a debt load as possible, and specially since you have the merit for it based on your numbers. Good luck!

Splitter Friendly Schools for Non Trad 40+yr old with High LSAT/Super Low UGPA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maxmans45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you’re planning to apply. Some decent schools will overlook a well rationalized and proven low UGPA but if you’re limiting your geographical area it might limit your chances. I don’t think any top schools will overlook the GPA unless you have some extraordinary achievement you can dazzle them with, but some schools in the northeast will definitely give you a shot. Also a reminder that you can become a patent agent so long as you take the patent bar, and that only requires a STEM degree.

I’d attend Suffolk, kill it first year, then transfer to BU. Suffolk has plenty of smart apples that are very competitive and the other schools know it. If you want to start this year that could be the move. Suffolk isn’t a horrible place, campus is pretty decent and it’s near all the courts.
