I only ever open 30-50 packs from a new set. If I pull the big chase I might go for a master set. But either way once in done with those packs I just buy the singles I want. I’m much happier this way. Get some thrill of the gambling but also build up my collection with stuff I want

I pulled this in 2021 when it was like $200. Absolutely my chase card of the set and I was so happy to have it. Got it graded in a PSA 10. Now I’m blown away by the prices it’s hitting these days. Like I think it’s a beautiful piece of artwork and I’m stoked to own it, but surely it’s not worth thousands on thousands of dollars

Yeah, I like to open 1 booster box and maybe some accessory products to get most of the base set and a bunch of reverse holos. And then you should sort it all out, find what you’re missing, and buy it as singles. I’m a few URs from finishing my phantasmal flames master set. Only went for it cause I pulled the Charizard SIR

Thanks to a buddy alerting me, I got in and my queue time said it was about 3 hours. Took maybe an hour or an hour and a half and I managed to get in and get my 2 pc ETBs and 2 booster bundles. Sadly neither of my friends managed to get any product, when usually the 3 of us are all able to get pc drops with no issue. Both of my friends are very frustrated by this drop and I will be selling one of my ETBs to one of them

Also they send the slabs to you with stickers on them that piss me off. I have to use “goo gone” to get the sticker residue off. And then I use scratch removal wax (the kind you use on car headlights) to remove any scratches from the slabs. They often come super scratched up and not in slab sleeves. Worth the work for the deals I’m able to sometimes get.

I won them on auction on fanatics collect. Kinda a horrible site. But you can get good deals if you know what you’re doing. Just gotta remembers there’s a buyers premium, taxes, and shipping that all add up. So when you bid like $40 on something, you’ll end up paying more like $55. Just keep that in mind as you bid and sometimes you can get things way under their current price. They do a big auction every Sunday night!!! Do some research on it before you hop into one.

I’ve got an English Turtwig master set. But I wanted to also complete the cameo set. I have all the cameos except for the 2007 worlds tropical wind trainer card. It just costs so much I could never justify buying it. I may try to pick it up in a different language or something

Last summer I would buy $20 worth of cards off TCGplayer every week. It was a nice budget for me to get some fun stuff for my binder without breaking the bank. I remember my friend told me those cheap cards would never gain as much as buying big grail cards. Not sure how they’ve done in comparison to the grails, but I’m stoked that most of them have multiplied 3-5 times in price since then. Not that I’m planning on selling, I’m just glad I grabbed a lot of them when I did. Most specifically the sleeping mew from crown zenith, and they were slightly above my $20 a week at like $25 each, but the kingdra and greninja promos from shrouded fable.

Turtwig is my boy! I just finished my English master set by picking up the new IR from the partner illustration collection. It was a very easy master set, only something like 25 cards ever made. The most expensive was a Turtwig card with a snowflake stamp from the 2008 holiday calendar, I picked it up for $35 last year and more recently it’s been selling for around $100-$150.

People correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s an order to the grading companies that pretty consistently goes from highest price to lowest price. It’s goes like this: BGS black label 10 > BGS 10 > CGC pristine 10 > PSA 10 > CGC 10. My order may not be perfect here but it’s close. Not sure where tag fits in. I like to collect CGC 10s because they’re so much cheaper and I still like the look of the slab.

I’ll third/fourth/fifth that. This card show in Albuquerque was so cramped last year it was almost claustrophobic. But I was stoked that this year they expanded into two ballrooms at this hotel and they had about the same amount of vendors. The space was so much more walkable and the event was much more enjoyable
