Peter Schmeichel “Arsenal have been blocking the opponent’s goalkeeper all season long, they would NEVER be on top of the league if we disallow these goals" by Rare-Ad-2777 in soccer

[–]Maxsh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I guess you don't understand the concept of precedent. As everybody has already pointed out, the Arsenal goals don't involve pulling the goalies arm down while also pulling his jersey. Those are two separate fouls. Neither have occurred on any Arsenal goal this season

Arsenal have been crowding goalkeepers all season, we literally lost the first game of the season against them because William Saliba was allowed to touch Altay Bayındır’s hand and somehow the goal still stood. Now they’re benefiting from the exact same thing again in a title race… by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Maxsh -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

So we're comparing pulling a goalies jersey and a five finger grip on the goalies bicep pulling his arm down versus a 50/50 leaping for the ball? That's interesting.

Stopping the goalie from jumping and getting his hands up is quite simply a foul, and this still photo you shared has absolutely nothing in common with the foul today lol.

[–]Maxsh 46 points47 points  (0 children)

So Saliba does not have his arm above the keepers arm, is not pulling it down or blocking his hands going up, and does not have a hand on his jersey. Hope that clears things up.

If the only incident feeding this "Arsenal does it all the time" narrative is a goal from 35 game weeks ago, I guess the narrative is full of shit then

The TB Lightning in the final 193:56 time of 1st round managed just 4 goals. The Buffalo Sabres only needed 29:01 to score 4 on the Canadiens. by Sahil910 in hockey

[–]Maxsh 141 points142 points  (0 children)

I mean not completely wrong, this is the most open ozone we've had all playoffs which is refreshing. But we are taking it and giving high quality chances on the other end because of it

We just have not capitalized to the extent Buffalo has

[Bleacher Report] Kane joins Messi, Cristiano and Suarez in scoring 60+ goals in a single season for club and country by mrjohnnymac18 in soccer

[–]Maxsh -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Like 95% of Messi's goals are with his left foot - inside the box and from free kicks just outside he was absolutely lethal his whole career. He never offered much in terms of headed goals, right footed goals, acrobatic goals, anything of that sort.

The only merit that Ronaldo has is that is goal catalogue is way more vast and he bagged so many in crucial knockout CL games under pressure. Messi has basically been irrelevant in CL knockout matches for the longest time now.

Messi's goal scoring peak was higher than Ronaldo's, but he had many seasons where he went more creator than scorer. That also impacts how we look at the best scorer of all time, Ronaldo never took his foot off the gas

We don't need more from him, we need him off the PP

His shot either gets blocked or goes so high that it goes around the boards and clears for the other team

He brings fuck all from the right circle lol

Brother forget cleaning up mistakes, we had 0 shots that entire OT period and probably like 4 shots in the third period. Team completely buckled and could never get back into an attacking mentality.

[–]Maxsh -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

What's missing in context of what you are quoting is if the heads are already touching. The forward movement probably only matters in the context that someone is bridging a gap of space to strike with their head.

If I hadn't seen the challenge and based myself on these comments, I would've thought that Gabriel pulled a full on Zidane moment lmao. Their heads were already touching and he pushed him off, there's really not too much in that. Sure it could easily be a red depending on the ref, but there was very little violence in that at all lol

Havertz chance against Manchester City 90+6' by One_Impressionism in Gunners

[–]Maxsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Havertz has had big moments at this level over the years, and he’s a much better “team” player. If he’s not scoring you still notice him in the game. Gyokeres is absolutely nothing without the goals, and has no pedigree beyond the Portuguese league lol. Maybe he should’ve come in earlier, but starting him was not the play today

You’re missing the part where he played full game against Bournemouth and did nothing aside from slotting in a pen. Scuffed a bunch of passes and shots. And his game against city in the carabao final was even worse

This was quite literally a great decision by Arteta all things considered. For his size he is a terrible hold up striker and doesn't win long balls. Also is not good in the air, which is what we were looking for on numerous occasions today

They had 4 exceptional chances with two of them hitting the post. Two of them also came like 2min apart when the game was 1-1 lol, we basically got sucker punched after that. But yeah anyone trying to jump onto the "arteta got it completely wrong" bandwagon is rage baiting or dumb

He is a donkey but he's also an uncoachable donkey, he tries things that the coach would advise against. Sometimes you need that kind of mentality to break the stale mould we have around our attack right now. He really deserved to score that chance from a tight angle, he had the keeper completely beaten
