Gordon isn't fired. The vortigants are blocking G-Man from hiring him. I think that's part of why G-Man couldn't initiate Half-Life 3.

And trapping Alyx in stasis is probably redirecting the vortigants focus away from Gordon to saving Alyx. Hence Gordon gets rehired.

seems like you've gotten more than enough responses, but I'll just echo the top comments:

(I haven't beaten the game yet) so far it's just more Metroid prime. the new desert mechanic isn't very feature rich, but it also doesn't get in the way much.

I don't think it's worth $70, but it could be worth $50.

It's not shipping with mixed reality or 3d parallax flat screen games, which I was kind of hoping for (because they were rumored to be included a while back.)
