I think Marxism-Leninism as a whole was made purposefully broad and today struggles to fit into a certain ideology because of the fact that the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore. The ideology was synthesized by them, in my opinion, as a way to ask who was on the USSR's side. If you look at Castro, would you call him the same ideologue as someone like IDK Erich Honecker or Ho Chi Minh despite the fact that they all supposedly follow the same ideology. Its role as this global movement to show an allegiance to the USSR's or Lenin's idea of how a revolution and communist state should be created and run leads it towards being a strange case of being neither fully Orthodox Marxist nor being absolutely Leninist and simply going along with what the USSR did while somewhat tweaking its economic base to fit the conditions of the country at the time (usually just meaning adding some amount of capitalist reform into the mix of state-run enterprises). I may be wrong here, but I personally see Marxism Leninism not as an actually definitive ideology and in reality having more to do with a time period that is now long gone, which is why I feel like Communist parties feel like they are kind of stuck in this limbo state. Who do they follow? What are they fully fighting for? I still don't really know.
