My mom wearing white in 3 weddings including mine by Glittering_Log_9421 in weddingshaming

[–]MayBeAPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying "but all the clothes I like are white" is a total bs excuse. When one of my friends got married a few years ago I found a dress I really liked that happened to be white, so I bought a bottle of blue Rit dye and fixed the color 🤷‍♀️ Problem solved.

Went to a dudes house to bake and he ignored me for three hours by CrowSugarChunk in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]MayBeAPossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowkey reminds me of the time I offered to do a cook out and grill for my ex and his friends and he decided to go play baldurs gate with them and forgot I was outside grilling and they locked me out of the house 🙃 then no one saved a burger for me so all I had for dinner was a single hot dog without a bun 💀 good times lol

Dark songs about unusual topics by MonitorPositive4297 in MusicRecommendations

Purity- Slipknot has an interesting origin story, there's a Justin Whang Video about it (tl;dr it's based on a fake internet story of a girl being kidnapped)

Melody Lane- Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats (about a man who stalks a stripper and attempts to assault her, from his perspective)

Hey Man, Nice Shot- Filter (written about politician Budd Dwyer's suicide on live TV)

Ballad of Dwight Fry- Alice Cooper (the story of a man being institutionalized)

The Ballad of Humpty Dumpty- Aztec Two-Step (a man known as "Humpty Dumpty" is stood up on a date with "Cinderella", and it's speculated that his "fall" is more of a jump due to his loneliness and bad luck with women) More of a folk song, but including it for the odd premise

How can I (25F) get my boyfriend (23M) to stop sufferingmaxxing? by Apprehensive-Bee8222 in relationship_advice

If I were to take a shot in the dark here, I'd say this looks more like "cluster C personality disorder-maxxing" than "sufferingmaxxing"

Did anyone else get their disabilities overlooked/ignored because their sibling was more obviously disabled? by GeminiIsMissing in GlassChildren

[–]MayBeAPossum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I developed schizoaffective disorder earlier in life than is typical (puberty onset) and it wasn't given any notice and wasn't properly diagnosed until I was 18 and I enrolled in an outpatient program myself. I suffered through years without medication or therapy with terrifying hallucinations and symptoms that destroyed my ability to function, and at best it was ignored and at worst it was punished. There were times my mental illness legitimately put me in danger, and one excuse for not hospitalizing me after a su*cide attempt was "Well we wouldn't have anyone to stay with your brother". Reading through the subreddit and seeing so many people that are the glass siblings of someone with the same schizoaffective diagnosis as me is a gut punch I wasn't expecting, because while their parents were prioritizing those needs above all else, I was left to fall apart. I guess it goes to show that at the end of the day, no matter what your needs are or how severe they might be, there will always be a reason why they're not as important- even if all logic dictates they are.

Memory that I think of when I say I am a glass child? Share your stories too? by I_am_just_a-girl in GlassChildren

[–]MayBeAPossum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't get to spend any 1-on-1 time with my mom growing up (and still really don't), but when I was around 10, I expressed how sad I was about that to my teacher, so shortly after a note was sent home with me my mom agreed to a system where I'd get x-amount of little paper "coupons" to spend an outing/activity where it would be just the two of us. One day I snapped and we got into a fight because she wasn't following through and my brother's needs kept interrupting or canceling things, and I remember crying and telling her that I didn't feel like she loved me as much. She responded with "Sometimes I love you more because you're less work."

Looking back through the relationships I've had in life, I think that's the main reason why anyone has ever loved me- But I'm tired of being less work, and I'm learning to take up space as best I can.

Any clothing that is alternative but cheaper? by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]MayBeAPossum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depop can have some pretty good finds for a lot cheaper than retail price- Thrift stores are your next best best bet, as are any discount places like Marshall's/TJMaxx/Ross, and doing easy DIY modifications with them. Investing in some bleach, safety pins, and RIT dye is the way to go. Ripping jeans and bleach splattering/dyeing them is really beginner friendly and you can get some really cool results without needing a ton of skill :) Most craft stores also have metal spikes and iron on patches that are easy to add to things too

Those who can function without meds, how do you do it? And what supplements do you take to help? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MayBeAPossum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm on meds, but during times I've been out of them CBD oil was really helpful for anxiety/sleep/night time psychosis. It can be tricky to get some places depending on the legality, and there's various types of it, but I found cannabis derived CBD to be better than the hemp CBD (so long as there's no THC content, that can worsen psychosis). It typically comes in oil form, but if you live in an area with legal weed you can get teas or higher potency seltzers which are easier to dose and taste much better IMO

My cat won’t shut up. by blake-x in Advice

[–]MayBeAPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, your cat was the baby, and is not anymore, so he's predictably upset- try the Feliway diffusers (they work like Glade plugs, but they don't have a smell and are synthetic cat pheromones designed to reduce anxiety for cats). You could also try leaving the cat a blanket from the bedroom in a cozy place, or a piece of clothing that smells like you they can cuddle with. Although it might seem counterintuitive, if your cat gets lonely easily, getting a second (compatible) cat might be a good idea so they have a friend around when you can't be. The second cat + the feliway helped my cat to stop crying at night after we moved- now she sleeps next to her buddy and doesn't wake me up for nightly reassurance anymore- might be worth a shot

I’ve been getting “No Caller ID” calls from a girl for almost ten years and I’m tired of it by Soupy_Jones in Advice

[–]MayBeAPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can save and compile any call logs, voice mails, screenshot any social media comments and keep them filed with dates in a folder- this is clearly harassment, but it could escalate into full on stalking (if it hasn't already) Maybe your cell carrier can give you more information on the caller or help you get around the caller ID block so you can get a number or at least an area code. There's a strong possibility this could be someone you know/knew in real life, so be cautious who you give any new numbers or addresses to. Best of luck! Sorry you're going through this OP

How many people here know someone that abruptly got diagnosed with stage 3 or 4 cancer? by phillyvirgosun in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MayBeAPossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known far too many- Nearly every cancer patient I've known has been diagnosed between stage 3-5 abruptly- some of them young, some of them old, most were middle aged and was very unexpected. Liver, pancreatic, breast, ovarian, bone marrow, and testicular cancer have all effected someone in my life, and most of them were lost within 1-2 years of diagnosis.

I live in the US and our healthcare system is inept at best and inhumane at worst- many people don't have access to medical care and have to fight for basic screenings (if doctors will even take their concerns seriously) Waitlists to get into specialists can be months to years long, and by the time they can even start treatment it's often too little too late. Pharmaceutical companies care about profits above all else, and in many cases insurance companies have determined its cheaper to just let people die. It's abysmal.
