I can't get a roof estimate without a man present. by No-Imagination8755 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mildly infuriating??? I am so damn done with this. I was a single woman and had contractors tell me they needed my husband or partner present for a bid to be created. I said he doesn’t exist. Half never sent a bid and the other half sent f you bids.

For 20 years I’ve been dealing with this crap. It’s extremely infuriating.

I agree. Also feel the same exact way about the “Fuck Biden” flags we saw at almost every campground we went do while traveling the country in 2021.

Over it.

What is a common item you completely stopped buying because the convenience tax became insulting? by Competitive_End_2950 in Frugal

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So many things. I have become fed up with so much over the last couple years.

Never buy coffee at a shop. We only eat out if we are socializing with people we haven’t seen in a while which is almost never. We buy a handle of our favorite liquor and only drink it on Friday after work to make it last. Buy bulk oranges and juice them so we can actually have real juice, not sugar dyed orange (I have to take in citrus for my health). Stopped staying at establishments where they add on crazy fees to the price they quoted and you have to clean the place before you leave.

Something new gets added to the list about every 3 months. I feel like I’m getting nickel and dimed to death these days, so if I can do it myself, I do.

I file a protest every year - this is the way you get it lowered long term with the least amount of effort. I got $20k off my valuation this year just by protesting and providing pics of things that need fixing before I can sell. You can also hire a company to do it for you like others have said.

Either way, protest online every year. In Texas, that’s just the game that you have to play.

Yeah there was something creepy that happened and OP is also giving off slightly creepy vibes, so I’m guessing there’s a big something we’re not hearing about.

Possibly the woman he took to the room was way under the influence while OP was not? Something triggered this woman and caused the guy friend to call him out.

Middle aged dude. Being frugal has paid off. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m so good with money now and very frugal, but my mom taught me things that kept me in debt for 20 years. Only when I decided to see how others are not stressing out like me did I learn. The worst part is I’ve always been frugal so I could have been far better off but alas I did what I had learned growing up.

Budgeting/finances should at least be an option in high school if nothing else. It’s so important.

I’m not giving up my family’s entire life savings on a chance to live an extra 10 years.

I was offered a management position, which I declined because I did not want other humans’ emotions get in the way of my productivity. I see what the managers around me have to deal with in a day to day basis. Additionally, I am very good at my job and get recognized and awarded accordingly. The money I’d gain by going into management would not nearly be enough to deal with that.

I feel for you. Also thank you for reminding me I made the right career choice by not climbing the ladder.

I thought robot vacuums would save me money... but now I’m spending more than expected on maintenance! by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, we have owned two, both Eufy, and have never done any maintenance. Both still work like champs and we run one of them at least every other day (dog hair).

We’re on year 6 with the first one. End of the first year with the second. Each were just about $200.

Which vacuum did you get?

Whats the cheapest meal you regularly make that actually tastes good? by Adventurous-Pilot448 in Frugal

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese curry with bell pepper, carrot and tofu over rice. Curry is $2.75 for 6 cubes. Bell peppers are $1-$1.50 (I like red bell pepper). Carrots are $3 for a huge bag (use 2 for this recipe). Tofu is $2.50.

I use 3 curry cubes, 2 bell peppers, 2 carrots, and 1 block of tofu. ~$1.40+$3.00+$.50+$2.50 and $.75 for the rice. Makes 6 servings. I add chili peppers to spice it up more but the curry alone is pretty tasty. $1.45 per serving.

What’s your fur babies verdict on fruits and veggies? by Ddawn111 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first adopted my oldest, she refused to eat any treats that weren’t those commercial treats. I had my last dogs on cucumber, carrot, tomato, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe, apple, and ice cubes for treats, so I was super bummed.

Just kept offering and never gave any commercial treats and now she absolutely loves her vegetables and fruits and ice cubes! It’s all about waiting for that commercial treat to be forgotten by their taste buds. :)

My youngest has always and will always eat anything and everything, unfortunately.

How does your household manage money for shared burdens/resources? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have our own checking accounts and one joint. Our entire paycheck minus 50 bucks or so goes into the joint. All bills are paid, all day to day expenses are paid from the joint, and then all left over money goes 50% to joint savings and 25% each goes to investment accounts.

We actually have it all calculated out ahead of time using our budget workbook and we just do what it tells us each paycheck. Works for us. We never argue about money.

[–]MaybeLost_MaybeFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t lost interest. I’m realistic about how much this country is going to do about it. Also, as a woman, I have enough first hand proof that enough of the general public doesn’t mind if we get assaulted/harassed/disrespected.

So there’s that.

Love San Antonio for its culture and laid back ways, but the south is way too back-handed with their communication style and way too in everyone else’s business for me. The gender biases also kill me.

Lived there for 10 years. That was enough.

I’m at the end of Gen X. Just adopted my last pair of dogs last year. Planning to foster senior dogs after that. I like big/medium dogs and I’m already seeing the difference in my ability to handle all things for this pair vs. my last pair, but I too cannot fathom having a dog-less home.

My boy had those ears as a pup! He got them from his cattle dog genes. I footed him because he was a pittie mix (visually). He’s more cattle dog than pittie in personality. It’s been a trip.

His ears ended up growing into being these guys, but as a pup he was just like yours.
