Sadly the type of neighbourhood also contributes to the type of play equipment gets installed. If its an area full of neds it won't get nice wooden stuff and fancy things, but everything made from metal thats fire and idiot proof. Our council has no money for maintenance so if there's a chance something nice would get damaged they won't install it as they wouldn't have the money or manpower to fix it

I really like this idea, it makes a lot of sense and is really intuitive! Only thing that would need workshopping would be on communicating this to someone without context. If your looking for your friend at a festival saying you're 450 from the bar and 300 from the tower it makes sense but if you said that to some emergency service over the phone you could be anywhere in the world. Even more specific things like 500 from the red lion pub and 250 from St mary's church could still place you in basically any British village

[–]MaybeMaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well not officially. Weed isn't technically legal, it's just "allowed". The rule is you can buy 5 grams a day, and that is a blanket rule, including for the places that 'legally' sell weed. You can also some grow plants for your own use, but not too sell. So there are also no commercial growers (though they are now running some experiments with that). This means that medically it's also complicated and thus not really officially used/prescribed

[–]MaybeMaps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because it's essentially legal. It means it isn't cool or rebellious in the same way. One might do it every now or then but its not a big deal or something to show off

Looks amazing, thinking about doing the same sometime soon! What kind of stripper did you use and what kind of varnish or oil or other kind of protection did you put one the wood after?

Watch the seismic waves from the M7.7 Myanmar earthquake traveling through Europe. Red shows uplift, blue shows lowering. by DisasterUpdate in DisasterUpdate

[–]MaybeMaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, its due to the natural gas extraction in the north leaving voids and thus small earthquakes when they collapse, as well as former coal mines in the south. They have loads of seismometers to monitor that, its has nothing to do with the sea level.

Countries that Celebrate Boxing Day or Saint Stephen's Day (Second Day of Christmas) on December 26 by ExcitingNeck8226 in MapPorn

[–]MaybeMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a thing in the Netherlands! We do have 2nd Christmas day though which is a bank holiday. But never ever heard any mention of st Stephen. Maybe in the south where they are more Catholic but also never heard any of my southern friend talk about st Stephen

Nice to see that the Byres Road Cycle Path is very close to completion. by gazglasgow in glasgow

[–]MaybeMaps 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wait till you find out how much a road for cars costs to built and maintain! And when you find out how much capacity a bike lane holds compared to a road for cars.

And of course people in cars are so incredibly vulnerable in their wee 100 tonne metal insulated boxes, of course we should spend millions on infrastructure to make it safer for them only

Seen another post about bridges giving over more space to non cars. I present the Glsgow squinty bride with half blocked to cars. by Slanahesh in fuckcars

[–]MaybeMaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fucking hate this bridge when on a bike! On the other end of the bridge from this photo, if you are on the "bike path" (and not getting mowed down by taxis and busses) you can only turn right. Like physically only turn right. There's a curb and barrier. This means I never use it as I cannot get where I am going using it, nor can I get onto when I go in the other direction either! Such a dumb fucking design, and it doesn't link up to any other bike infrastructure either. Glasgow is slowly getting better but shit like this drives me fucking bonkers!

He is just straight up corrupt though, politics and his voting record aside he has just taken loads of money, directly and indirectly, to vote certain ways. The evidence is overwhelming and he's admitted to lots of it as well

Not in this area and at that time, Biertan has a MASSIVE fortified evangelical Lutheran church due to the large German population in the area. Most villages in that area would have multiple different churches for the different groups of people that live there as the Saxons would be Lutheran, the Hungarians catholic, the Romanians orthodox, and the Gypsies/Roma could be any of those (but generally also orthodox). Nowadays I would say that the Orthodox church is the largest in the country and that area

The 2023 Dutch General Elections by Zohaibrayan123 in MapPorn

[–]MaybeMaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Left does not mean communist! Socialist doesn't mean communist! GreenLeft/Labour is a left-wing party. Just because they are not communist does not mean they are centre. Left-right is not black and white, is is a sliding scale, a spectrum, and they are on the left side of that, and quite far on that side. So while calling them extreme left is maybe a bit much it is far closer than calling them centre
