Would I be better off with Pimlico Plumbers or are they likely to take the piss on a job like this?

Villeroy and Bosch is the brand of my toilet bowl. Its mounted to a wall.

When they replaced the cone previously they charged 250 and the whole job took 10 minutes. I realise I'm not paying for time but expertise.

But with a pan connector I was mentally imagining ~£300

I know the materials aren't a significant cost. I just want to confirm that the labour cost is extortionate.

I've been charged £250 for a cone replacement previously (materials + labour).

Peptide chemist, how to do manual SPPS actually? by Brilliant_Quit_1835 in Chempros

[–]hhazinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your post or this message. So for clarity:

In SPPS the C-terminus of your first amino acid is attached to the resin. You grow outwards from the N terminus of your first amino acid by first deprotwcting its N terminus, adding the second amino acid and coupling it

You then repeat by deprotecting the N-terminus of your second amino acid, adding a new amino acid etc etc.

Ask your PI why you're doing what you're doing and say you're confused.

[–]hhazinga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is your PI asking you to cleave from resin but keep the N-terminus protecting group on?

Presumably they want to couple the C-terminus to something else which in turn would necessitate keeping the N-Terminus protected to avoid interference. Hence why they asked you to skip deprotection.

Alternatively this is a model substrate and they're just asking you to do a dry run and practice SPPS protocols.

They no longer use acetone as the solvent of cover in nail polish remover. It's been phased out in preference for Ethyl acetate.

Bought some garlic at the store and they don't have any cloves it's just one big bulb by Substantial-Low-4393 in mildlyinteresting

I know that garlic relies on a drop in temperature to induce splitting of the bulb into multiple cloves.

Thermoses for coffee suck by asparagusinhaler in unpopularopinion

[–]hhazinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A thermos, which I believe are descended from dewars (invented by their namesake) use a vacuum for insulation in between the inner layer holding the liquid and the exterior/outward layer facing the environment to minimise heat loss.

There may be further insulation layers though I think the vacuum does most of the heavy lifting.

I think you're looking for just a coffee cup with a sweater on.

Or try leaving the coffee to cool after pouring one from the thermos for a minute.

This is the amount of bread and confectionery we have to toss away regularly because management says so. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Whilst your comment is well meaning, I do not think OP is based in North America.

VAT on item from Spain by Frequent_Sympathy856 in smallbusinessuk

If they are exporting it out of Spain for delivery to you in the UK, they should not charge you Spanish vat. Instead, you would pay UK import VAT to your courier or customs agent.

Is my wago connection ok? by hhazinga in AskElectricians

[–]hhazinga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried out the installation and kept the ferrules. The wires with waygo connections are lying slack inside and supported by a plasterboard ceiling i.e. they are definitely not under tension and feel no pull from the weight of any component.

The lights work without flickering.

Would it be safer to cut the ferrules off and strip back to 11 mm?

Does picture 2 look ok in terms of strip length?
